Where is the vote in the Commons going to take us next. Whether remainder or leaver, this is a disgraceful shambles!

crystaltipps Sun 03-Feb-19 18:37:56

Sorry Andy the “majority of the U.K. “ did not vote for a hard Brexit. Not sure how that fits in with democracy. You might be ok, but a lot of people won’t be.

mcem Sun 03-Feb-19 18:36:28

Toddle off then, dearie! I'm sure contributors to this thread, whether pro or anti brexit will cope without your comments which are both naive and patronising.

andycameron69 Sun 03-Feb-19 18:28:27

oooh and a big cheers for a hard brexit. will all be ok, it is after all what we... me,, the majority voted for..

All this project fear bluffs can not change the vote, not extend Brexit .is is in law...

It is called a democracy..... quite easy to understand I think , along with the word....majority......

best wishes

Try this then:

Nissan's Europe division boss Gianluca de Ficchy announced that the decision was a mixture of investment needed for emissions regulations and reduced sales forecasts and that added uncertainty over Brexit had also played a part.

andycameron69 Sun 03-Feb-19 17:27:40

well said GG, good for you. I agree with your comments alot.

Nissan are actually increasing production greatly of the other models at Sunderland instead. So no loss

Nonnie Sun 03-Feb-19 17:20:17

So clearly people are buying them which means Why would a car manufacturer build cars that nobody wants to buy. is incorrect. Yet another casualty of Brexit even if that was only one of the reasons, think straw and camel's back.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 03-Feb-19 17:13:29

Not as many as they anticipated due to the backlash against diesel vehicles.

Nonnie Sun 03-Feb-19 17:11:14

But GG you said Why would a car manufacturer build cars that nobody wants to buy. and clearly they are being bought.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 03-Feb-19 17:09:49

They are building for the Asian market, with the exception of China who as a rule tend not to buy Japanese vehicles.

The UK and I believe the EU are working to ban all diesel vehicles within the next 15 years (?)

Nonnie Sun 03-Feb-19 17:04:57

GG why do you think they are building it then? I doubt they would if they couldn't sell them.

Nonnie Sun 03-Feb-19 16:34:33

Can we just accept that Nissan said the uncertainty over Brexit was part of the reason?

MaizieD Sun 03-Feb-19 15:32:00

Along come the excuses! Julia H-B is promoting the same line as you on twitter, GG

From the Daily Express 2016

Sunderland rocks to the new Brexit beat as Nissan renews investment
FEWER than five months after it became a poster child for Brexit, it seems Sunderland is experiencing something of a revival.

PUBLISHED: 00:01, Sun, Nov 6, 2016 | UPDATED: 11:52, Mon, Nov 7, 2016

Nissan’s renewed investment in Sunderland is typical of this North East city
Last week the city’s main employer, Nissan, announced it would step up investment in the region by building the new Qashqai SUV and X-Trail models there, securing 7,000 jobs

Why would a car manufacturer build cars that nobody wants to buy.

Labaik Sun 03-Feb-19 15:24:18

But they had PLANNED to build it here did they not? There is always a proBrexit excuse for job losses/loss of investment, isn't there.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 03-Feb-19 14:50:18

Also the X trail has never been built outside of Japan and is one of their smallest sellers.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 03-Feb-19 14:42:29

The X trail is a diesel vehicle which is becoming increasingly unpopular in the West.

In fact most car manufacturers are scaling down the manufacturing of their diesel models.

Toyota are going to be building their petrol corolla in Derby despite Brexit.

Just heard a local Labour MP point out that the 7,000 potential job losses at Nissan roughly equals the number of jobs lost when the northern coalmines were shut down. It's a rather staggering thought.

Of course, the jobs won't all go at once; they'll be phased out as models go out of production. But that's just Nissan itself. There are thousands of peripheral local jobs dependent on Nissan and Nissan workers.

I think this may be my first 'I told you so'. I've been predicting it ever since the Leave vote.

I feel so sorry for the Nissan workers who voted Remain.

Nonnie Sun 03-Feb-19 14:19:27

varian facts, why bother? No, don't mean that, keep going because someone just might listen or even give you reasons why they voted leave!

Nissan reignites Brexit debate by moving X-Trail production to Japan, in blow to 7,000 Sunderland staff

www.chroniclelive.co.uk/business/business-news/nissan-brexit-sunderland-japan-news-15773748

It certainly does not look as though the bosses of Nissan agree that "a great future waits GB". This is just the latest of thousands of job losses because of this brexit nonsense. I feel so sorry for the workers who have lost their jobs, in spite of not voting leave. Surely by know those who did vote leave because they were told they would be better off can see they were lied to and deceived.

jura2 Sun 03-Feb-19 13:57:35

Dearie- blimey sad

Tell me, how can any respectful debate take place, when people are politely asked clear questions about their point of view of their own statements- and they just won't give any?

As for calming down - it is a sure sign of madness to not panic and try to get out when you are surrounded with fire and ready to blow up- as the UK currently is, and us with it.

Your opinion is indeed just as valid - as long as you are prepared to back it up, and as long as others can counter it with their own arguments, or facts (better than opinion for sure).

Urmstongran Sun 03-Feb-19 11:28:42

Actually I agree with you andy

andycameron69 Sun 03-Feb-19 11:26:49

keep calm dearies.

My opinion is just as valid as anyone else's.

Just because it is not the same as yours does not make it invalid or stupid.

The majority voted out,

A great future awaits GB.

MaizieD Sun 03-Feb-19 11:24:11

I'd just ignore andy if I were you, nonnie.

He just pops on here every now and then to say something really stupid about WTO and then disappears again.

Nonnie Sun 03-Feb-19 11:21:22

andy imo that is a very naive viewpoint. It was an illegal vote and should be nul and void or we should have a new, legal and honest vote.

Nonnie Sun 03-Feb-19 11:19:46

Sorry Urmston missed that. Must drink more coffee!
