If anybody else turned their Land Rover over at 97, would you expect them to be allowed to keep their licence?

The way I see it is that blinded by the sun, he pulled out into the path of an oncoming vehicle.
Im glad he wasn't seriously hurt but my concern is for the ladies and the baby

According to the news online (if it is true) he is notorious for going missing without notifying his security team (mentioned by ex Royal security), or telling security that he doesn't need them! (He is as stubborn as the Queen refusing to wear a riding hat and going out on horseback with just a headscarf on.) When security discover he's gone off, they race after him, hence I suppose that is why they were further back when he rolled the car. This is all according to the ex Royal security guard.

If it hadn't been an armoured well-protected 4x4, he probably would have been killed. Unfortunately for the women in the Kia, it was probably like hitting a tank.

When they have to live their lives sticking to so much ‘do this, that and the other’ little wonder they have a need to break free

If it hadn't been an armoured well-protected 4x4
It happened recently to someone near here - she turned on to the main road, got blinded by the sun and turned her ordinary little car on to its roof when she hit the central reservation. She was OK too and there was no other vehicle involved, luckily.

I meant the Queen deserves better than PP behaving in an irresponsible way now he has retired not that she deserves a better consort.

I thought that you meant that HM deserves a better husband merlotgran but I did think, 'well, at her age, I just couldn't be bothered'!.

I would loved to have been a fly royal sitting room wall. shock.
'but Philip you could have been kidnapped!'
'No problem dear, I would have shot the buggers'
a tag with a royal warrant

I have a vision (yesterday) of a Duke giving a furtive look over his shoulder whilst he sneaks
into the garage and shoots off in the Range Rover with a big grin on his face and gravel flying everywhere, before his driver/ bodyguard can even get his boots on!grin

It's just occurred to me that as he knows that junction well and was aware, coming up to it, that the sun would be in his eyes, he was doubly negligent pulling out into a known hazard.

But then, here we apparently allow toddlers to drive. smile

Cherry there’s nothing remotely humorous about his pathetic selfish entitled behaviour which could have resulted in the deaths of 3 people.

Lily65 Fri 18-Jan-19 21:24:37

well said, if it had been anybody else I don't think we would have been laughing.

Lily65 Fri 18-Jan-19 21:25:50

What right minded 97 year old goes out unnecessarily in a very large car?

Cherrytree59 Fri 18-Jan-19 21:35:12

Not laughing just trying to envisage how a senior royal at the grand old age of 97 manages to drive around the countryside without an aide.
If it is regular occurance then an accident waiting to happen or a prime target for a kidnapping or assassination attempt.

Jalima1108 Fri 18-Jan-19 21:36:34

What right minded 97 year old goes out unnecessarily in a very large car?
Perhaps he was just popping down to the shop for a pint of milk?

Lily65 Fri 18-Jan-19 21:41:31

I expect so.

maryeliza54 Fri 18-Jan-19 21:48:23

I’ll just say it again - he’s a selfish, entitled, thoughtless git who came close to taking the lives of 3 people. Those surrounding him clearly facilitate and thereby encourage this behaviour. They should all be ashamed of themselves.

maryeliza54 Fri 18-Jan-19 21:48:55

Why is it ok to joke about this?

Lily65 Fri 18-Jan-19 21:53:44

You are quite right. The phrase " He is a law unto himself" comes to mind.

Jalima1108 Fri 18-Jan-19 21:54:29

No-one was seriously hurt, thank goodness.
Lots of people do drive at that age if they are fit enough (we knew someone who decided to give up when he was 100)
Lots of younger people have accidents which are their own fault; should they therefore hand in their licences?

Who is to decide that a fit 97 year old with all their faculties should not drive but a 55 year old who could be a heading for a heart attack etc should?

Age may be a factor in road accidents but is not necessarily so.

moonbeames Fri 18-Jan-19 22:00:58

That is an advanced age to be driving on public roads. He has plenty of roads on his estates and he can drive there. Those poor people who were hit and the others who were in the car with him. A bit stubborn I think, he must think of others now.

maryeliza54 Fri 18-Jan-19 22:04:26

Lots if 97 year olds drive? Really really?

BradfordLass72 Fri 18-Jan-19 22:06:11

I think we all know enough about Prince Phillip, indeed all the royals to ignore what the spin doctors put out and understand that this man has been surrounded by 'facilitators' all his life and is used to doing what HE wants, at all times. He has never been compliant, he's racist and insensitive beyond belief.
All he has to to is refuse to take any eyesight or intelligence tests and who will force him?

maryeliza54 Fri 18-Jan-19 22:06:22

Jal I see you have only a very passing acquaintanceship with statistics and probability

maryeliza54 Fri 18-Jan-19 22:08:06

Well said Bradford

Jalima1108 Fri 18-Jan-19 22:08:37

More than 100,000 people aged 90 or over still hold driving licences, figures from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) show. The latest data shows that 248 people aged more than 100 still hold valid licences, compared with 100,281 over-90s.

hmm I would call 100,000 lots

Jal I see you have only a very passing acquaintanceship with statistics and probability if only you knew how funny that is.

maryeliza54 Fri 18-Jan-19 22:23:47

Pray what is the relationship between having a driving licence and actually driving? I know those figures- all they tell me is how many have a driving licence.

maryeliza54 Fri 18-Jan-19 22:24:58

Perhaps you don’t quite understand the difference between having a licence and actually driving?
