Petition to stop Brexit

Surely Urmstongran the mess we are currently in isn't the way you thought it would go when you voted to leave? I remember people saying "We'll be able to negotiate a deal within weeks", "The EU has more to lose than we do". There was no mention of Irish borders, backstop agreements, tariffs etc.
Not only the Remainers, but plenty who voted to leave are being dragged into a ridiculous deal (or even worse no deal) that we don't want and that will be a disaster.

Apologies for all the typo’s earlier, I am suffering from conjunctivitis so I am going to have an early night to see if it will help to clear up.

The E.U. would be delighted varian if the government revoked Article 50.
So would all those who voted Remain.
The majority though (who voted Leave - remember us?) would be furious.

Anyway, how is the petition coming along Remainers?

This comment on Twitter is interesting and ask a few valid questions that I have wondered about resding so much unfounded prejudice.
It reads in respons to rather inflammatory words about Remainers.

The UK has the legal power to stop Brexit by unilaterally revoking Article 50, the EU‘s top court, the European Court of Justice (ECJ), has ruled.

The ruling matches legal advice given to the ECJ last week by its advocate general, who said as a sovereign country Britain could reverse its decision even at this late stage.

I totally agree MarthaBeck if I were Scottish I’d be FURIOUS with David Cameron. I have said this on forums here many times. DC assured the Scottish people that the best way for them to stay in the EU was to vote to stay in the U.K. when they held their referendum.

Mind you, at the time he (and a lot of others) didn’t for one minute think that his referendum on Brexit would have the outcome it did.

I bet the Scottish people who really wanted independence but were persuaded that staying as part of the U.K. was the best means of remaining in the EU feel they have been shafted.

One of my Grandsons lives in Oban and he sent me this Twitter which is on the board at his college.

Can anybody explain to this English lass, how can a English dominated Partliament object to Scotland having a greater say over its own affairs? When it is exactly the same reasons being given by Gov for leaving the EU, saying they don’t like decisions being imposed by other countries. He asks why are we so two faced?

In September, Centre for European Reform research claimed that Brexit was costing the UK economy an enormous £500 million a week. The research suggested that the UK economy was 2.5% smaller at that point and public finances were taking the £26 billion a year hit.

Do you remember the lie on the bus? £350m/week? Of course we all know now that was not true. Our net weekly contribution to the EU was far less, (less than our subsidy to NI) and for that we got the many benefits of EU membership.

So, in the last two years we have spent at least £500m/week on this brexit nonsense. What a waste of everyone's time and money. We need to wake up and stop this madness ASAP. Revoke Article 50 now.

RosieL I disagree, I think there will be a national sigh of relief and the whole debacle will be taught in history lessons in years to come so that such stupidity will never happen again. However, if the unforgivable happens and we leave that will also be taught in schools as the reason for the countries disastrous decline.

Agree with Varian. It is obvious that the current political system is not working; time for a change Brexit or no Brexit.

Article 50 can be repealed Andy.

The European Court of Justice ruled back in December that the UK could revoke Article 50 unilaterally.

In addition, if Article 50 is revoked, the UK could remain in the EU under the current terms of its membership, judges ruled.

This would allow the UK to keep its rebate on EU budget contributions, continue to opt-out of justice and home affairs legislation, and remain outside of the passport-free Schengen area and the euro single currency.
