A small number of back benchers will announce they are leaving the party this morning.

Chuka Umunna is one who may be among them.

I wonder if funding would come from business? Say people like Alan sugar who opposes Brexit?

Mycatisahacker Wed 20-Feb-19 12:50:48

urmstrongran

What are the rules for this? Can they be ousted by their constituents or have they a right to stay until a GE? Is it in their gift to choose to stay put?

trisher Wed 20-Feb-19 12:50:34

Only if they can find enough funding Annie

Anniebach Wed 20-Feb-19 12:48:20

If they form a party trisher not can they form a party , they can form a party ,

Mycatisahacker Wed 20-Feb-19 12:48:10

Yes surestart indeed, sadly gone now due to Tory cuts.
tricher

Farages wife is German so that’s perfectly normal?

Also are bankers not allowed to have a pint in the pub and be normal people? That’s a bit of an odd view.

I think it’s really important to respect those who in my view act honourably whole profoundly disagreeing with them.

Just watched PMQs. Soon we won’t know who is sitting with who and what party they represent. grin

Urmstongran Wed 20-Feb-19 12:44:28

I love the fact 11 MPs who are demanding a People's Vote are now refusing to call by-elections after leaving their respective parties!
Double standards or what? ?

Anniebach Wed 20-Feb-19 12:39:05

POGS yes either all or none

varian Wed 20-Feb-19 12:37:36

Farage was elected to the EU parliament as UKIP candidate. He subsequently resigned from UKIP but I haven't noticed him resigning and standing in a by-election.

trisher Wed 20-Feb-19 12:32:52

Mycatisahacker This is the same Nigel Farage who pretends to be a man of the people and is photographed standing outside pubs with a pint in his hand but used to be a banker? Whose children have Irish and German passports so they won't be affected by Brexit. There is I think a certain mismatch between his actions and his speeches-A man is as he does!
I was thinking about the discussions which will now be going on -can they be a party? And what can they be called? They can't be the Independent Group because that might be confused with people standing as Independent MPs.
Democrats-ooh that's been used. Social-no too many bad connections. Whatever is left?

POGS Wed 20-Feb-19 12:32:44

Can I revisit a question from yesterday but with a change of numbers now 11 MP's have resigned from their respective parties.

The talk at the minute is about the 11 MP's who have resigned from their respective parties.

There are calls for them to have the guts to hold bi-elections and stand as Independents.

There are other MP's currently sitting in Parliament who have either ' Resigned ' from their party, have been ' 'Expelled ' from their party or ' Resigned the Whip ' from their party.

Should they also be told alongside the 11 who have just resigned from their parties to stand as INDEPENDENTS and hold bi - elections in their constituencies too?

Unless they have a temporary ' removal of the whip ' awaiting outcomes of wrong doing why not?

Anniebach Wed 20-Feb-19 12:29:20

Same here Mycat and Sure Start and the minimum wage ,

Mycatisahacker Wed 20-Feb-19 12:17:48

I do agree Anniebach under his watch all the schools in my area were rebuilt, the NHS worked splendidly and crime was low.

Of course mistakes were made of course they were but he did many good things too.

And he was electable

Anniebach Wed 20-Feb-19 12:13:55

How quickly the benefits this country gained with a Blair Brown government is forgotten or the fact Blair was the only labour leader to win three consecutive general elections. He reached out across the country .

Mycatisahacker Wed 20-Feb-19 11:59:06

Suzied

No he’s been campaigning for what he sincerely belived for decades.,as I say I don’t agree with him but I can respect principals. As far as I know chancers change their minds to get ahead. He has not.

Anyway that’s my view. And I profoundly disagree with him.

Anniebach yes exactly

Anniebach Wed 20-Feb-19 11:54:45

I agree Mycat and we don’t know what he was told by intelligence in America and other countries .

suzied Wed 20-Feb-19 11:48:58

No way is Farage principled - a complete hypocrite and chancer.

Mycatisahacker Wed 20-Feb-19 11:46:30

grannyPauline

That was a massive massive mistake I agree and it had tainted his very, in my view, successful domestic career.

But I think he sincerely belived he was doing what he thought was the right thing but was badly advised and manipulated.

Mycatisahacker Wed 20-Feb-19 11:42:51

No tricher he has always said what he believes and stuck to his principals throughout ridicule and hate.

i don’t agree with him can I add but I respect people, especially politicians, who stick to their principals and beliefs Within the law.

Mycatisahacker Wed 20-Feb-19 11:32:45

Exactly PECS

What I cannot bare is liars ,career politicians and hypocrites.

Oh look whose left the Tories????

PECS Wed 20-Feb-19 11:25:06

Berger is not that popular with her constituents because she was seen as a " career" politician shipped in to a safe labour seat. Maybe they had a preferred candidate?
Any anti Semitism must be roundly condemed however when J C has spoken out certain sections of the press merely ridicule him.
There is a big history of JC opposing anti Semitism and all forms of racism.

The issue is still the political issue of Zionism and the conflation of a political ideal with a religion. There are big divisions within the Jewish communities too as in any community Jewish people span the political spectrum.

There was a person on TV the other evening being told, by a non Jew, that he was basically the wrong kind of Jew ( i.e. not a Zionist) so his opinion did not count. Nobody defended him either!

Anniebach Wed 20-Feb-19 11:14:56

I was so wrong.

3 conservative MP’s have resigned from their party and joined the Independent Group

Heidi Allen. Anna Soubry. Sarah Wollaston

Anniebach Wed 20-Feb-19 11:06:47

‘Trisher* are you saying it is her constituents who have threatened and verbally abused her because she was ‘parachuted in’ ! and the fact she is a Jew has nothing to do with the anti semetic attacks ?

trisher Wed 20-Feb-19 10:59:57

One of the biggest problems with Luciana Berger is that she has always been regarded by the local people as an MP who was parachuted in to a safe Labour seat. Lots of local people saying she shouldn't have been.
Mycatisahacker Nigel Farage- true to what he believes? And principled??? Is there more than one???

Anniebach Wed 20-Feb-19 10:24:46

PECS if he believes in reaching out and knowing one of his MP’s is suffering racist abuse and threats of violence it surely was his place to arrange a meeting with Luciana to discuss these threats and reassure her ?

When baroness Shami delivered her findings into anti semitism in the party, Ruth Smeeth was verbally attacked by a member of momentum, she left the room distressed , Corbyn ignored it and after the meeting greeted her abuser.

Was this reaching out ?

PECS Wed 20-Feb-19 10:16:06

Annie I do not know the ins an outs of the relationship between JC & LB . But not speaking can be a 2 way thing!
