A small number of back benchers will announce they are leaving the party this morning.

Chuka Umunna is one who may be among them.

Urmstongran Mon 18-Feb-19 08:45:28

And Yvette Cooper I heard. Strange times Annie but the Labour Party in its present form isn’t very appealing is it?

petra Mon 18-Feb-19 08:47:06

Watch Corbyn blame everyone but himself.

Anniebach Mon 18-Feb-19 08:52:57

I doubt Yvette is among them. There will not be names as in 1981.

Not a word from Corbyn but Len McClusky has said
‘If your going, then go now’.

Anniebach Mon 18-Feb-19 09:08:20

Will Luciana Berger go before she is driven out ?

Urmstongran Mon 18-Feb-19 09:10:06

‘Better go now’. I can feel a song coming on! ?

lemongrove Mon 18-Feb-19 09:13:59

They will stand as Independents presumably, like Frank Field did?
More should have broken away over two years ago when they were aghast about Corbyn becoming leader.
Maybe after we leave the EU more will do so and form a centre party with disgruntled Conservatives.
That will give us a better choice for future elections.

Anniebach Mon 18-Feb-19 09:17:56

Labour and conservatives couldn’t form a new party.

lemongrove Mon 18-Feb-19 09:35:35

Anything could happen!

maryeliza54 Mon 18-Feb-19 09:39:39

How do oh feel about the fact that this breakaway group want some sort of secondr referendum and so may be described as undemocratic? Also if sitting MPs leave their party, is it acceptable that they don’t resign their seat and ask their constituents what they want?

Lily65 Mon 18-Feb-19 09:45:19

Naive fool comment coming up........I wish some decent people would come to the forefront and give us some hope.

Anniebach Mon 18-Feb-19 10:02:31

My membership renewal due in a few days ,seems I will have to pay up ?

Anniebach Mon 18-Feb-19 10:20:49

7 have resigned and will stand as an ‘Independent Group’

1inamillion Mon 18-Feb-19 10:27:36

Think that this is inevitable now Annie.
The Labour Party don't seem to represent my values any more. I cannot support Jeremy Corbyn et al.
BBC 2 now has all the resigning MP's giving their reasons/ idealogies.

Anniebach Mon 18-Feb-19 10:30:55

Luciana Berger

Chris Leslie

Angela Smith

Gavin Shuker

Ann Coffy

Mike Gapes

Chuka Umunna

I think that they are going to need the support of some Conservative MPs if they are to start a new party.
perhaps Heidi Alexander, who has been touring the food banks with Frank Field. or Anna Soubry, who is very much on the side of remain.

I wonder what the policies of the new party will be on domestic issues.

maryeliza54 Mon 18-Feb-19 10:37:26

A bit pedantic of me ab but the 7 are sitting as an Independent group - not standing. They stood as Labour Party candidates in 2017. I’ve always had a problem with MPs who leave the party they were members of when they elected even when I understood why they left.

Anniebach Mon 18-Feb-19 10:38:15

The seven are standing as ‘a new group’, i am tempted ,
Chuka said they have a website for anyone wishing to sign up

kittylester Mon 18-Feb-19 10:38:36

At last a bit of hope on the horizon. I do hope some Tories get on board.

maryeliza54 Mon 18-Feb-19 10:39:35

Listening to them all they stand for traditional Labour values - the big dividing issues are failure to tackle anti-Semitism and Brexit.

maryeliza54 Mon 18-Feb-19 10:40:48

Here’s my prediction, no Tory MP will join.

Anniebach Mon 18-Feb-19 10:41:20

Maryeliza yes pedantic

maryeliza54 Mon 18-Feb-19 10:45:28

But accurate.

Grandmashe43 Mon 18-Feb-19 10:48:17

Thank God, now I may be able to have some faith in politics again.

Anniebach Mon 18-Feb-19 10:48:47

But unnecessary, pedantic, nit picking, accurate
