A small number of back benchers will announce they are leaving the party this morning.

Chuka Umunna is one who may be among them.

EllanVannin Tue 19-Feb-19 15:45:41

Hatton the Marxist who wears Armani.

Anniebach Tue 19-Feb-19 15:36:56

Good post Cherry, summed up the Corbyn party perfectly

Anniebach Tue 19-Feb-19 15:35:10

That’s gorgeous George ?

Cherrytree59 Tue 19-Feb-19 15:29:35

So no longer a Labour Party member , if I stayed I would be supporting anti semetism and bullying. I cannot do this,

So sorry to hear this "Annie". I know you are Labour through and through, just as my dear Dad was. You must have quit with a heavy heart, but you have, like many people, watched as the face of Labour changed. I really am not sure what this Momentum led Labour party stands for.

I feel they are using the usual problems in the UK as no more than a stick to beat the establishment, and as a way to get onside the younger, less aware, and perhaps more rebellious voter, who has no real idea of the havoc a far left party can wreak under the banner of 'socialism.'

This is an anti-establishment Marxist party at it's root. It lost a lot of support when far left Corbyn became leader. You gave it time Annie, but your fears are justified. sad

Anniebach Tue 19-Feb-19 15:25:52

lemon there is still Corbyn’s mate George Galloway

lemongrove Tue 19-Feb-19 15:15:53

Corbyn is reponsible for keeping the Conservatives in power, and maybe for a long time yet.

lemongrove Tue 19-Feb-19 15:14:07

Yes Rowantree you certainly are in the minority ( liking Corbyn) on here and anywhere else outside Islington and any hotbeds of far left activists.
Under his leadership ( if you can call him a Leader!) all the reds have crept out from under the beds and what a horrible lot they are, as are all the anti-semites, they have had a glorious unchecked time of it.Now Hatton is back, what more could they wish for?

Ilovecheese Tue 19-Feb-19 15:04:39

Indeed, aspiration is not a dirty word! Wanting life long learning is a good aspiration and will enable people to change jobs, therefore contributing to the economy.
Keeping people's brains active should mean less demand for social services.

Educating a population saves money, it is an investment.

Yes, right to buy is popular, but having a greater stock of social housing with low rents enables people to save for a deposit to buy a house at market price, not subsidised by the people who had paid for those houses to be built.

Bringing railways into state control means waiting for the franchises to expire, not buying them back.

PFI for schools has left us with enormous debts to pay to these companies, and enormous costs for even small repairs to the fabric of the buildings. PFIs have been a disaster, and even the Conservatives have seen the sense of putting a stop to them.

As for this magic money tree, ask the DUP where theirs came from.

trisher Tue 19-Feb-19 14:58:06

Why not? Wasn't that the original purpose of the OU started i believe by a Labour government?

Anniebach Tue 19-Feb-19 14:55:38

university for all through life ?

trisher Tue 19-Feb-19 14:54:33

Mycatisahacker the franchises are limited times. They will run out. Meantime of course you are as a taxpayer subsidising private enterprise (but don't let that worry you)

trisher Tue 19-Feb-19 14:52:09

Perhaps we could stop subsidising Grouse shooting and subsidise education instead? Oooh what a left wing thought!!
The amount you are now paying for her wealthy mates ‘sport’ has risen from £45m to £84m
The number of people I know who left school at 15 but managed thanks to grants to go to university in the 80s is huge. It changed their lives. I don't see why others shouldn't have the same rights to education (and all this we can't afford it is a load of tosh but it has been the best political brainwash ever)

Mycatisahacker Tue 19-Feb-19 14:46:35

Trouble is take the nhs! It’s not feasible to keep going into the future without proper funding. We no longer live in 1945.

No politician is brave enough to say we need to massively overhaul it and have integrated social care and you will all have to pay more taxes. Not just the bankers!! Yawn!! Everyone.

Bringing back the trains under state control sounds great but it will cost millions to buy those franchises and if you remember the 70s they were no golden age for state controls. Ditto PFI for schools.

You need more than ‘let’s reverse tax cuts for the rich’ to win an election.

paddyann Tue 19-Feb-19 14:38:02

ask Mrs May Annie she's the one who knows where it is....as long as its used for her own gain

Mycatisahacker Tue 19-Feb-19 14:35:37

You have to cost these policies though and not Dianne Abbott style.

Look the right to buy is popular. Back in the day my parents and my in-laws brought their council houses. They wanted to get up the ladder not be content with living in their state owned houses.

Aspiration is not a dirty work! They voted for Maggie after always being labour because of foot.

Now they will vote Tory because of Corbyn. No one sensible thinks he can deliver on all those promises.

Working clsss people don’t want to be patronised into accepting their staation by champagne socialists or do they want the humiliation of food banks offered by the Tories.

We need better.

Anniebach Tue 19-Feb-19 14:11:06

It wasn’t a remark it was a question

Can the country afford life long learning for all ? Nothing wrong is wanting it , nothing wrong in wanting to pay off students debts , where is this forest of money trees ?

Mycatisahacker Tue 19-Feb-19 14:10:27

But tackling racism can’t be an aim!!!

It has to be done and dealt with not lamented about or ignored.

Mycatisahacker Tue 19-Feb-19 14:09:21

I think though Corbyn seems to have built a cult like almost fervent following if supporters so the old broad church labour was and should be has gone.

Any criticism of him personally is not tolerated by his supporters so you have to be a corbinista to be in the party now. Hence the split.

Ilovecheese Tue 19-Feb-19 14:03:54

Of course wanting an end to racism is not unreasonable, that is just a silly remark.

Ilovecheese Tue 19-Feb-19 14:02:58

"Life long learning for all"
Is this a bad ambition?
Did nobody ever learn at night school?
Should we stop wanting to learn as we age?
As employment changes, surely we need to keep learning our whole lives long, in order to be flexible for one thing, never mind keeping our minds alive.

How anyone can think that learning is a bad thing is beyond me.

Anniebach Tue 19-Feb-19 14:01:03

And wanting racism tackled is unreasonable?

Ilovecheese Tue 19-Feb-19 13:59:30

I object to being called a "Corbynite" and implicitly a racist because I want to see a more equal society, a programme of building council houses, stopping right to buy, not setting up our NHS for privatisation, not being relaxed about homeless people on the streets, or about food banks. These are not extreme views in my opinion.

Supporting each other, wanting everyone in this rich country to have a decent standard of living is somehow seen as an unreasonable ambition.

Anniebach Tue 19-Feb-19 13:57:23

Corbyn is to provide life long learning for all ,

Now being asked his opinions of the seven who left the party yesterday

And being asked when he is going to call for a Second referendum

1. Regrets the MP’s left, they were elected on his policies

2. In his list to Mrs May he included a second referendum
