A small number of back benchers will announce they are leaving the party this morning.

Chuka Umunna is one who may be among them.

GrannyPauline

Your post is factually incorrect do you want to correct it?

Jalima1108 Mon 18-Feb-19 18:42:04

grannypauline how could Luciana have voted for the Iraq War, 2003, she became a MP in 2010
where's maryeliza when you need her?

Let's face it, the Labour Party was established decades ag, alongside the Unions to represent the workers - or working class.

What exactly do they support today that other parties don't, apart from nationalisation? We have become more enlightened, society has changed and most parties have moved with the times. Human rights are important to all.

It would seem to me that Labour has had to reinvent itself and find a cause so the hard left has taken over, alienated a lot of moderate MPs and traditional Labour voters, but recruited the young with it's Marxist ideals and now stands for rebellion and the over-throwing of the establishment.

And Corbynites, please spare us the food banks, NHS and homeless people diatribes - causes to rant - because every politician would say those, alongside the environment, transport, education and housing are cause for concern.

Does the ordinary working man need Labour any longer? I say this, coming from a staunch Labour background. "Traditional Labour values" are held by all modern parties. I think the Conservative Party has now become the party fo common sense, thanks to Momentum hijacking Labour and turning it into the party for rebellion. It has become too scary and volatile and controlled (by the hard left) for many middle of the road working class voters, who want fairness and common sense to prevail.

Just what IS Labour about now???

Anniebach

Don’t let the facts get in the way of the vitriol. They arnt institutionally anti Semitic either

maryeliza54 Mon 18-Feb-19 18:36:05

Good post Urm

Mycatisahacker Mon 18-Feb-19 18:32:18

thank you very much Blairites

Says it all that is arrogant nasty unpleasant and stupid in momentum today. I can’t say labour because they are not.

Mycatisahacker Mon 18-Feb-19 18:30:24

I know Anniebach

I though he sounded very sad very eloquent and I think he may go. He’s a good decent labour man. Proper labour like kinnock and John Smith.

This lot not fit to wipe his boots.

He must be very very conflicted tonight.

Urmstongran Mon 18-Feb-19 18:29:47

So, this Less than Magnificent Seven left without a vote, have left their constituents without an elected Labour representative, and are refusing by-elections in their wards. Worse, they are ignoring the Referendum result and are insulting the nation's electorate by pushing for a new "People's Vote."
What this group understands about democracy could be written on the back of a postage stamp. And now they're asking for our support, money and membership!? No chance.

Day6 Mon 18-Feb-19 18:29:37

That is interesting Granny Pauline. Thank you. Very much Blairites.

Anniebach Mon 18-Feb-19 18:26:56

Tom Watson said ‘ I love my party but at times don’t recognise it

Mycatisahacker Mon 18-Feb-19 18:24:03

Not funny to see poor old Di as home sec though. God help us all.

grannypauline Mon 18-Feb-19 18:23:43

So...How have the 7 voted in the past? Often for good and laudable policies BUT they also voted like this:

Luciana Berger: FOR Iraq War and AGAINST Iraq War Investigation: FOR Trident replacement; mostly FOR University Tuition fees.

Chris Leslie: FOR Iraq War and AGAINST Iraq War Investigation: FOR Trident replacement; mostly FOR University Tuition fees.

Angela Smith: AGAINST Iraq War investigation; FOR Trident replacement

Gavin Shuker: AGAINST Iraq War investigation; FOR Trident replacement

Ann Coffey: FOR Iraq War and AGAINST Iraq War Investigation: FOR Trident replacement; mostly FOR University Tuition fees

Mike Gapes: FOR Iraq War and AGAINST Iraq War Investigation: FOR Trident replacement; mostly FOR University Tuition fees

Chuka Ummuna: FOR Iraq War and AGAINST Iraq War Investigation: FOR Trident replacement

The Labour Party has moved to the left of their positions and if their local parties no longer support their voting patterns, then they are right to step down and they should stand as independents.

Mycatisahacker Mon 18-Feb-19 18:23:17

If he had stuck to his principals he would have campaigned for leave and to leave NATO!

his principals are a movable feast.

Tbf I think the old Trotsky is so stupid and politically naive that he didn’t really understand that momentum would propel him into the leadership and he is quietly petrified that he could one day be PM and then actually have to deliver on his unicorn promises to all rather than protest like he has all his adult life.

Honestly if I didn’t love my country so much It actually would be funny to see him as PM.

Mycatisahacker Mon 18-Feb-19 17:50:27

Granted he’s been a bit shit over brexit

The biggest challenge facing our country since WW11 and you,who obviously thinks he walks on water, says this?

Jesus Christ my bar of what I expect from s politicsl keader and potential PM is a lot higher than yours then.

Anniebach Mon 18-Feb-19 17:47:26

Rowantree I am never done with anti semetism or any racism , i have always spoken out against it and never make excuses for anyone who is racist

PECS Mon 18-Feb-19 17:47:08

I trust people who stick to their principles!

PECS Mon 18-Feb-19 17:45:21

Rowantree we are on the same wavelength politically.. maybe our shared Semetic roots wink

Anniebach Mon 18-Feb-19 17:44:22

PECS sorry but I don’t understand how you can trust Corbyn , is he committed to anything ? He has always wanted out of the EU but didn’t support leave . He sits on the fence and waits

Rowantree Mon 18-Feb-19 17:43:38

Totally agree PECS and your last statement holds true for anyone in any party. That is democracy, surely? Or a part of it, at any rate.

Annie is done with anti-semitism now, it appears....

Anniebach Mon 18-Feb-19 17:40:39

Same for me Mycatisahaker, I cannot vote for a liar and a hypocrite

PECS Mon 18-Feb-19 17:37:16

Annie it is very clear you strongly dislike JC and you keep repeating the same situations as evidence of anti-Semitism. These have been debated and disputed ad infinitum.

I have said on several occasions that a) I would never be blind to anti-Semitism and b) that I am disappointed in JC as a leader of the LP and on his European stance.
But I do still recognise his commitment to core Labour ideals which I also espouse.

It is possible to be a supporter and still disagree with aspects of someone's political opinions

Rowantree Mon 18-Feb-19 17:32:49

PECS thank you!
My dad wears his Palestinian badge all the time in support.

Rowantree Mon 18-Feb-19 17:31:14

Ohhhhh, Hard Left, schmard left!

We've already done Tory Lite under Blair - haven't you had enough yet?

We aren't going to agree on this one, people, but I'm at a loss to think of a 'sensible Tory' I'd want to ally with. I feel the opposite to Mycatisahacker - I felt utterly despondent about the future of the Labour Party until JC took over as leader. Granted, he's been a bit shit over Brexit, as has the whole Remain camp tbh - too little, too late. But for my money, his values, which INCLUDE opposition to racism, are mine too.
