MOMO Warning

There have always been violent adaptations of kids cartoons that get through parental controls. Theyve been around for as long as parental controls have they have NEVER been a substitute for supervision

I never forward anything until I have checked it out on Snopes.com. There are hundred of 'urban myths' going around, and being perpetuated by people mindlessly sharing them. Some of them have been around for many years.
I agree that children need to be protected, but many parents are making things worse by passing on fictional stories without checking them out first.

The internet if used wisely is a fantastic thing, but it is so often used for nasty, evil, fraudulent things. There are so many people out there now who are able to gain access to your private information for dire purposes
and children who are bullies that terrorise other children all via the internet and social media. And all this is called 'progress' What a sad world we live in now.

My 9 year Old GD is very mature about this she says just ignore it ,its not real and you should never do something that a stranger tells you to.The opinion from folk I know is make sure the kids are aware but stop sharing it online and dont make it out to be news worthy .My wee one who is 7 is worried she might see it so her I-pod has been removed for now until she calms down .She makes her own videos and blogs

Trouble is, children can be very mature in the daytime, but at bedtime it's a different story.

no tech allowed at bedtime ..not even TV's in rooms here ,never have allowed them.

I can't understand why it is being called ' a hoax ' yet there are parents happily being named who say this has happened to them.

Are the parents lying or misguided or is there a truth behind this but because it is the dark web it cannot be proven.

I honestly do not know which way to jump as to the truth .

If parents/grandparents want their children to see ‘real’ Peppa Pig episodes then use the cbeebies site or similar.
YouTube contains any that all sorts of peope make, from a bit amusing to downright horrible.
In fact youngsters shouldn’t be surfing YouTube at all.

Now I';m beginning to wonder what sort of Peppa Pig videos my GS watches with his mates on those sleepovers.

I don't understand this hoax thing. It's still out there, hoax or not.

I personally wouldn’t believe that a thirteen year old boy, or his mates, would want to watch Pepper Pig. If they said they watched it for fun at sleepovers I’m afraid I would have the deepest suspicions as to the content. (Not necessarily violent though, maybe of the ‘makin bacon’ variety !?)

I saw a big advert for red nose day in town today which looked very like an adaptation of momo with a red nose.

MOMO is nothing to do with dark web. No child should be anywhere near the dark web ever.

The IMAGE exists. It is part of an art installation. The MOMO game/challenge exists. The myth is that if you join the game MOMO will make you commit suicide

The hype and "warnings" are actualy fueling intrusive thoughts and suicide ideation and promting kids to SEEK OUT MOMO and to tell MOMO related horror stories

Its like slender man. Momo doesnt exist! It cant harm you....but these "warnings" can affect sensitive or vulnerable kids into thinking that once they see an image of it it is somehow inside their heads controlling them

The urban myths around it are growing. First it was that if you get to the end of the MOMO challenge you will kill yourself. There is no evidence of this happening ever..

.... then it was if you JOIN the game....
.....now its if you see the image.....

And parents are fueling the mania!!

Pretty much in line with what Ive been posting, we've just had a message from the girls' school advising parents NOT to mention or warn against any "challenge" by name as this fuels curiosity/fear/anxiety/hype, but take the opportunity to make sure you know what your children are doing online

Local police said something similar: that there is no evidence that the MOMO challenge is doing what the urban myths say its doing, and spreading these myths is more likely to cause young people harm and crisis than the game itself.

Internet "challenges" in general are dangerous and can cause harm and death

Parents should lead by example but instead parents are doing (and getting their kids to join in) internet challenges which they deem to be "a bit of fun for a good cause" such as the ice bucket challenge....

....then complain that SOMEONE ELSE should do something to stop their teens taking up every viral challenge they get tagged in! Well...

Parents are doing Movember, dechoc, dry january...

Then get shocked about kids getting hospitalised because of the cinnamon challenge etc

It's a scam. Please ignore the MOMO rubbish - it's not true

I think the creator of the original image has said that MOMO is dead and children have nothing to worry about.
