5 million have signed the petition which means 61 million haven’t.

minesaprosecco Sun 24-Mar-19 20:38:51

1-2 million on the march, 5 million signing the petition to revoke A50 and remain in the EU - as opposed to the 200 on the march to leave and about 500,000 signing the petition to leave with no deal. Can anyone really still say that Brexit is the 'will of the people'? Yes, it's the will of some, but it doesn't look like it's the majority any more.

Been reading some of the placards - some were truly brilliant - the essence of British Humour. Fabulous.

varian Sun 24-Mar-19 16:55:11

Apparently the Transport for London touch data shows 1.6m used public transport at the 13 stations associated with the march. If you add to that people like us who came on foot , by bus and coaches from all over the country, you are getting somewhere near 2 million on yesterdays march.

BBC Scotland reported it as 2 million and the unofficial estimate from the Met was just under 2 million.

Tom Watson was one of the Speakers

No one from the Labour shadow cabinet ,

EllanVannin Sun 24-Mar-19 11:43:25

So good to see that the march went well, casualty-free by the look of things which makes a pleasant change.

yggdrasil Sun 24-Mar-19 11:33:15

I know people from all over the country who went. Some from Cornwall in the SW to Cumbria in the N
We had our tickets and were booked on the Special train from Bristol, but M put his back out and couldn't walk across the room, let alone London.
I watched what coverage there was on TV. There were all ages, including 20-y-o who didn't get a vote 3 years ago, and pensioners as well.

Greta Sun 24-Mar-19 11:27:19

To call the march 'perversion of democracy' beggars belief. I am grateful to all the people who made the effort to join the peaceful march; it was an expression of democracy. The opposite would be to tell marchers, in leavers' parlance: ”we won, you lost, get over it. End of”.

varian Sun 24-Mar-19 11:26:28

All sorts of people on the march were on the march- men and women of all ages and backgrounds from all over the UK and a few from further afield. We spoke to an Englishman who had travelled from his home in Stockholm where he lived with his Swedish wife. They were all passionate in believing that we will all have a much better future in the EU than we could ever have by leaving, and in spite of such strong feelings, all were peaceful and good humoured.

Contrast that with the sorry little bunch of angry , aggressive white men you see on any pro-brexit demo. I would no more want to be on their side than on the side of Trump, Putin and Marine le Penn, the only foreign leaders to support brexit.

cangran Sun 24-Mar-19 11:19:15

Well done to all of you who took part in the march yesterday - I'm another who was there in spirit!

crystaltipps Sun 24-Mar-19 06:29:59

Trying to pervert democracy? It’s the very essence of democracy - ok leavers might sneer and say they were all entitled middle class snowflakes, which definitely isn’t the truth. No one was sneering at the leavers - it wasn’t their march. Plenty of vitriol directed at leave leaders - Johnson et al but mostly in the form of funny placards. I didn’t like the unpleasant bunch of about 4 thug types yelling foul abuse at people in Trafalgar Square, where the shorter march started , so mostly people in wheelchairs or with buggies, but the police surrounded them and moved them away.

Grandma70s Sun 24-Mar-19 06:10:34

I was with this march in spirit - and judging by Twitter if everyone who was there in spirit had actually been there it would have been unbelievably huge.

I have to admire my brother who did go. He’s 82 and can only walk with a big rollator, but he was there with his wife, who is a mere 68. I doubt if they did the whole thing, but will hear all about it today.

I don’t think such marches have ever had an effect on what happens eventually, but I doubt if even Theresa May can have missed the impact of this one. If only she would see sense and work to avert national suicide.

paddyann Sun 24-Mar-19 01:08:16

you mean the corrupt parliament that tells you what it wants you to know and expects you to believe them and do as you're told...thats Westminster for you .EVERY government should be able to take cricism and act on it where it is valid. This is without doubt valid ,people didn't know what they were voting for or the mess the tories would make of it nearly three years down the line and no further forward. It has to go back to the people thats the sensible thing to do ,though sense isn't something that is seen in any volume in WM

maryeliza54 Sun 24-Mar-19 00:08:07

What utter tosh

Joelsnan Sat 23-Mar-19 23:58:09

It is good that those who chose to visit London today were able to express their opinions in a democratic society, however, by expressing their views (peaceful as it was), their message was very dangerous as they seek to pervert the democratic state that has kept this country’s residents safe since its inception and it’s model adopted by numerous other countries.

maryeliza54 Sat 23-Mar-19 23:47:28

Sarah Vine ( Michael Gove’s WAG and so called journalist) has really been having several hissy fits today on Twitter. She is clearly incandescent with rage at the success of today’s march ( and probably at MG as well).

merlotgran Sat 23-Mar-19 23:41:01

Does there have to be such nastiness? I voted Leave but applaud anyone who took part in today's march because everyone has the right to protest about a result that was not of their choosing.

I don't accuse Remainers of sour grapes because my own family is split and I respect their vote just as they do mine.

I just wish this sorry mess could be resolved one way or another.

Gosh, aren’t us Leavers just such nasty people in the midst of all this sweetness and light?

grannyticktock Sat 23-Mar-19 21:59:52

My niece and her husband and children drove all the way from Corwall to be there, spending last night and tonight in a hotel, just to be part of it and be counted in. I am very proud of them.

There were about 12 coaches going from Devon, one of the counties furthest from London, not to mention a those who made their own way by car or train. It's the whole nation, not just London, who's represented on this march.

Craicon Sat 23-Mar-19 21:38:11

Thank you to everyone who marched today and everyone who has signed the petition for another referendum.
I’m still angry that so many Brits who happen to live and work in EU countries (like myself), and will be directly affected by Brexit didn’t get the opportunity to vote in the first place because DC arbitrarily decided 10 years was the cut off.

MaizieD Sat 23-Mar-19 21:25:32

It was a great day! We were at the tail end of the march which just got to the end of Park Lane (the start point) 4 hours after the start at 12.00.

Sarah Vine tweeted that had any Leavers been there they would have been lynched. Well, there were Leavers with placards in Hyde Park and they were just ignored... Which perhaps shows that judging people by her own standards was a tad foolish... grin

On our way back from a family friendly, good natured march. How very different to the hostility and death threats from those who support Leave as though they embody the very values they say they want to escape from. The EU represents 70 years of building cooperation and working together to create peace and well-being. All about to be destroyed by those who have taken on board the nonsense about taking back sovereignty we've never lost, nonsense about an EU army when we are part of NATO and the UN and frankly, blatent xenophobia and small mindedness. God help us all.
