I too feel so sorry for the woman. Whoever had been PM would have faced exactly the same problems (unless they'd caved in to the EU and Remainer pressure, so afaiac, Theresa May did all she could. She just couldn't please everybody - no PM in her situation would have done better. She could not fight a House of Commons which would never, ever agree with her ...

The House of Commons may be a disgraceful assembly - and democracy as a principle in the UK has been whipped, trashed and lies bleeding.

ALL parties and a fair number of self-serving MPs have let down the electorate of the UK. As GG13 mentioned, if ever there was a need for Guy Fawkes, it's now.

However, the Earth keeps spinning, the rains still fall, the sun still shines and we little people have to get on with it. We are ineffective. We have learnt that.

The shops are open, people have gone to work, the buses and trains are running, the banks haven't gone bust, TV and radio is still working and groups were laughing and joking at the bar as we enjoyed a pub lunch today. Life does go on.

Re Caroline Spelman's proposal to withdraw her amendment (ostensibly notas a result of pressure from whips).
Bercow has just explained that she can't do it. It is not in her control.
If she chooses not to vote for it that's up to her but any of the other signatories can move it.

The price of drinks in all those bars is also very cheap, being that it is subsidised by us taxpayers.

I think I brought that point up on another thread - which other places of employment have bars in the buildings selling alcohol?
I know that some people do go to the pub and lunch-time and others have long business lunches, but that is not the norm surely?

This is the hard reality: yesterday's vote was the last way out of this mess. There is no way to undo Brexit, nor to get a better or different deal! I think that’s why I felt deflated last night.

The EU has told everyone time and time and time again that there is no better deal. Rees-Mogg can shout all he wants about wanting a hard Brexit, and Corbyn and Labour can shout all they want about wanting a special customs union with the EU (e.g. Switzerland style), but neither are going to happen. Disagree with May and her deal all you want, this was the only way out at this point.

At the end of the day, the UK can demand all it wants but the EU and its members are setting the rules here and have all the power. They can’t make this easy/good for us as Italy would want out next.
