We BREXIT this month (hopefully) ?
(1001 Posts)Any fellow Leavers who would like to use this thread to post GOOD NEWS (away from Remainer doom & gloom)?
How about this for starters:
Norway’s $1 trillion (£753 billion) sovereign wealth fund – among the world’s most respected investors – has just confirmed it will boost its UK holdings. “Over time, our UK allocation will increase,” said Yngve Slyngstad, the Norwegian Fund’s CEO. “With our 30-year-plus time horizon, current political discussions don’t change our view,” he added, reaffirming his commitment to Britain even in the case of a no-deal Brexit.
This kind of clear-sighted, grown-up analysis contrasts starkly with the endless doom-mongering we get from subsidy-hungry politicos at the CBI. It’s precisely because Britain will thrive after Brexit that we attracted record foreign direct investment last year, beating the US, with only China attracting more. Even British start-ups raised almost £8 billion in venture capital during 2018 – some 70 per cent more than their French and German counterparts.
Boeing has opened its first manufacturing plant in Europe – in Sheffield. Technology-driven investment is piling in – not just to London but to Manchester and the North-East too. And, as Brexit-bashing stories about planes not flying are trumped by reality, investors from China to the Middle East are flocking to a country just judged by Forbes magazine as the “best place in the world to do business” for the second year in a row.
Yes, overseas investors are taking advantage of the weaker pound, which makes UK assets look attractive. But that’s how exchange rates work – which is why Europe’s monetary union is so crippling for many of its members.
Sorry for the long post but I’m not keen on links!
maizie- just leave them to their cakes and unicorns - it is really quite 'funny' in a very weird sort of way
Good news- the £ isn't sinking as fast as it was
bookies and lawyers doing well
ferry companies get a backhander
Jobs in civil service dealing with Brexit increased
Loads more migrants from non EU countries ( over which we have "control") to fill the gaps left by those from the EU
German fridge manufacturers have increased sales to the NHS
The brexit bill is rising
yes great to see some positivity and reality good news optimism. all will be well once we are out totally.
Urmston thank you for starting the discussion.
Of course the usual doom people are out, can't help themselves !!!!!
Exactly Petra!
Obviously the Brexit naysayers will want to post negatives on here but there are plenty of other forums where some Leavers might want to engage with them in debate (over and over!) but this lovely, uplifting forum is to share the GOOD NEWS for a change!
If we don’t engage on THIS forum they will leave us in peace (perhaps) to enjoy sharing the positive aspects we get to hear about Brexit.
Leave it, ladies. Don't bite
The pound is coming back up because the threat of no deal seemed to be receding and there looks to be a strong possibility of an A50 extension. There's been nothing else to justify it. The markets are less impressed by cake and unicorns than you lot are.
I hope you will a remember what you said 5 years after we leave.
Why do you keep saying MPs want to remain.in the EU? If that were the case we would be having a vote on facts as well.as the 2016 vote being declared null and void because of criminal activity.
Hear, hear RosieLeah! Take a recommend.
I don't have good news to share, just want to say that I'm with you, Urmstongran. There has been nothing but negative prospects forecast, as though no-one has any faith in this country. Leaving the EU will be a fresh start for Britain, now we need a new government with a positive attitude, to get this country back on its feet.
Then I should imagine this joyful little forum will hold absolutely no further interest for you varian.
Anyone else with some GOOD NEWS to share?
Maybe those “in love with the Federal States of Europe” need to look at the balance sheets if the “27” ?
Not that rosey!!
The sane Remainers are not impressed by your damage limitation.
It’s coming back up though..... which is GOOD NEWS!!
It was €1.11 not long ago. €1.15.25 today!
So. ✅
Before you voted leave £= 1.28 euros, so I can't see any good news
Thanks varian for getting into the spirit of this thread (inadvertently!).

Good thinking *Urmonstongran! I totally agree!
Your OP was excellent and cheering, and yes, let us look forward to a bright future, rather than the purgatory that Remainers seem to want to inhabit.
Don’t bite Day6 this is just a ploy by some Remainers to hijack our POSITIVE NEWS thread about Brexit! Before long they’ll draw us in and spoil our little oasis of good news. If we answer them back this thread will just disintegrate in another Brexit bashing/same old same. Nothing wrong with that at all - but there are already countless forums for debating and negativity. In fact, I do believe that this forum is the only GOOD NEWS one available!
I for one am going to ignore them & concentrate on putting out all the great news about leaving that I come across. We can just love bomb them.
Why Europe is doomed – politically and financially and what this means for your money
Oh look. If you're a novice investor you can get a free copy of this report, "The End of Europe's Empire" regarding the demise of the Euro, and find out which member states will trigger the biggest financial crisis in history.
I bet Remainers are looking forward to that.
(Oh and I suspect the report, from a financial concern, will be aimed at easily scared types as Brexit looms, but could be they are cashing in and going for the EU jugular this time? Makes a change.
)
And perhaps you could turn your attention to explaining why the Leave lies weren't lies at all.
Only if you can explain why none of the Remainer scare-mongering and doom-laden predictions, including those made by the Governor of the Bank of England, didn't materialise, eh Maizie?
Amendment proposed by backbenchers would see party abstain on PM’s deal as long as it is put to a public vote
www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/feb/28/labour-moving-towards-plan-to-let-mays-brexit-deal-pass-if-it-faces-public-vote
Just one way we might have a second vote.
Don't forget David Davis saying "If a democracy cannot change its mind it ceases to be a democracy"
Eh? What second vote varian have I missed something??
Yes, great news from Spain!
This just now in The Guardian (1st March)
The Spanish government has approved a series of unilateral contingency measures to protect the rights of Britons in Spain in the event of a no-deal Brexit.
The package, set out in a royal decree that will go before parliament, will cover employment, social security, healthcare and education, and is designed to minimise disruption if the UK crashes out of the EU.
The Spanish government estimates that there are at least 300,000 Britons officially registered as resident in Spain, and more than 150,000 Spaniards living in the UK.
Speaking following a cabinet meeting on Friday, the foreign minister, Josep Borrell, said he hoped the UK would reciprocate what he called an “extremely generous” plan.
“They exercised a right and it needs to be maintained and respected. We also have to preserve Spain’s normal trade flows and economic interests.”
Borrell said the legislation would also cover transport, customs and driving licences, and that the government was working to help the 9,000 people who cross into Gibraltar from Spain for work each day as well.
Perhaps the second vote could happen at the same time as the EU elections. If leave wins, no MEPs would be elected. If REMAIN wins, they would be (but just let's hope that doesn't include the fraudster Farage)
