Any fellow Leavers who would like to use this thread to post GOOD NEWS (away from Remainer doom & gloom)?

How about this for starters:

Norway’s $1 trillion (£753 billion) sovereign wealth fund – among the world’s most respected investors – has just confirmed it will boost its UK holdings. “Over time, our UK allocation will increase,” said Yngve Slyngstad, the Norwegian Fund’s CEO. “With our 30-year-plus time horizon, current political discussions don’t change our view,” he added, reaffirming his commitment to Britain even in the case of a no-deal Brexit.
This kind of clear-sighted, grown-up analysis contrasts starkly with the endless doom-mongering we get from subsidy-hungry politicos at the CBI. It’s precisely because Britain will thrive after Brexit that we attracted record foreign direct investment last year, beating the US, with only China attracting more. Even British start-ups raised almost £8  billion in venture capital during 2018 – some 70 per cent more than their French and German counterparts.
Boeing has opened its first manufacturing plant in Europe – in Sheffield. Technology-driven investment is piling in – not just to London but to Manchester and the North-East too. And, as Brexit-bashing stories about planes not flying are trumped by reality, investors from China to the Middle East are flocking to a country just judged by Forbes magazine as the “best place in the world to do business” for the second year in a row.
Yes, overseas investors are taking advantage of the weaker pound, which makes UK assets look attractive. But that’s how exchange rates work – which is why Europe’s monetary union is so crippling for many of its members.

Sorry for the long post but I’m not keen on links!

I am so excited now. Treason Mayhem's "deal" was a remain mess.

So now 16 days to go to WTO and we can deal with the whole world and be fabulous again.

A true 100% leave

Contrary to some opinion on here I find it hard to believe Theresa May was a genuine remainer.......she did less campaigning than Jeremy Corbyn who is definitely not a remainer despite his "on balance" being one.

Why are so many scared of a second vote now that the reality of Brexit is becoming clearer? If leavers really believe it is the will of the people then another vote will just confirm and reinforce that belief.

Night-night Urmstongran
I can't better the sentiments of GrandmaKT and won't even try.
Suffice to say that another day will dawn and we women will always try to make the best of whatever is thrown at us.
Your thread has produced inspiring, thought-provoking and strongly held views which have been interesting, to say the least. Thank you and sleep well. flowers

crystaltipps Tue 12-Mar-19 22:47:58

GabriellaG54 I have not “continually poured scorn and derision” on anyone- challenged spurious claims and weak arguments yes, but that is hardly scorn and derision and many on here are perfectly capable of chucking the odd brickbat, you included. Nothing wrong with that. It’s a democracy and political debate won’t be akin to gushing over fluffy kittens.
To get to the current crisis- Theresa May should definitely resign, hanging on by a thread gives her no credibility and is no longer a sign of virtue. However, unfortunately, the bar is now set so low another incumbent from the current crop would probably be just as incompetent.

I think you’re right muffinthemoo I was originally a ‘no dealer’. But this forum has probably been humbling for me. I began to wish for some kind of compromise and a deal, for me, represented that.

I was quietly hopeful of that today. Alas, it was not to be and strangely, I feel crushed.

Silly isn’t it?

varian Tue 12-Mar-19 22:33:37

Idiotic comments are counter productive. They strengthen the case the idiots oppose.

Urmstongran Tue 12-Mar-19 22:32:50

What a truly lovely gesture GG54 sending flowers to
Mrs May. I admire your generosity of spirit.

I’ll be honest when I say I couldn’t have done it, yet I like to think I’m a nice person. I feel so let down by our MP’s. I think I need a good night’s sleep to find my equilibrium.

Take a recommend GG54 for being a bigger person than I.
??

Bridgeit Tue 12-Mar-19 22:30:09

Take heart Urmstongran
Andy cannot be taken seriously, his comments aren’t worth a second thought.

muffinthemoo Tue 12-Mar-19 22:23:54

Urmston I had picked up the impression at some point that you were a no-dealer. Are the majority of Brexiteers not, at this point, no-dealers?

Urmstongran Tue 12-Mar-19 22:22:02

Bless you GrandmaKT and for that, tonight, weary and dispirited as I am, please take a recommend ??

At well over 800 posts on this forum, which only started on 1 March, it shows the level of engagement on GN.

Tonight I feel kicked and beaten, I will be honest. But what will be will be. I hoped for a deal. It seemed a decent compromise compared to a no deal.

The world will still turn, the sun will still shine and the grass will still grow.

Anyway, thank you for your kind words which have touched me.

I do not know, as Leavers, where we go from here.
Does anyone?

GabriellaG54 Tue 12-Mar-19 22:17:54

lemongrove Tue 12-Mar-19 22:15:24

It’s a mess for all Urmston for both Leavers and Remainers.
It’s no good Parliament just saying what they don’t want anymore they have to come up with something, and I wonder if they are capable of doing so, I really do.

GabriellaG54 Tue 12-Mar-19 22:15:11

crystaltipps
I read your points twice and have only this to say.
Criticism is good if it's constructive but not to continually pour scorn and derision on those who think differntly.
Die-hard leavers will never vote to remain and vice versa.
I respect opposing views and e left mine to be respected too.
The problem lies with the fact that we are not all standing in the same spot but we are all looking at the same thing, hence our different views.
Whatever the outcome, I hope that you and yours and me and mine can live equably with the result, whatever cobbled together result that is.
We have no other choice. Our power was at the ballot box.
If a horse wins a race by a more (which is in fact more a millimetre than anything else) or a sprinter wins a race by a nano-second, there is no re-run.
No matter the margin (and 1m is some margin) all of us should agree that we stand by a democratic vote.
I have never agreed with throwing the dice ad infinitum until you get sixes.
We each had a throw. Leave threw sixes, remain threw 5s.
No more.
Spare a thought for Theresa May. She's worked tirelessly IMO, a 'fellow woman who must be heartily sick of the barbs and distasteful banter from both sides of the chamber and both sides of the Channel.
I sent her flowers today to thank her for her efforts and to remind her that regardless of how the press and public castigate, ridicule and spin, there are still some of us who acknowledge how downright difficult her job has been.
Let's hope that something good comes out of this tangled web. smile

GrandmaKT Tue 12-Mar-19 22:01:28

We all despair Urmstongram, who knows where we go from here? But I would just like to say (as a remainer), what a good job you have done with this thread - you stuck to your stated aim of remaining positive and bringing positive new stories to our attention. It's stimulated some really interesting discussions x

Urmstongran Tue 12-Mar-19 21:53:40

Probably not ‘changed her mind’ Ginny
Theresa May is & always was, a Remainer. And her husband.

Whoever is out there for Leavers?
I despair.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 12-Mar-19 21:53:09

Ginny42 I have no idea.

Having trawled through various news sites, social media platforms, they are all making it up as they go along. We are in uncharted territory, who knows what the result will be?

lemongrove Tue 12-Mar-19 21:50:09

I actually don’t blame the EU, they have just been difficult to negogiate with as you would expect, I blame Parliament entirely.
Those wanting the hardest Brexit and nothing else will do,
Those trying to scupper the whole thing even though they had voted to trigger article 50, and those putting self interest and party politics first.
The deal May brought back was a compromise, and it seems they can’t compromise but want it all their own way.

Ginny42 Tue 12-Mar-19 21:48:13

GG13, could it possibly be that during all her dealings with her colleagues and with the representatives of the countries in the EU, TM has realised that 'no deal' would be disastrous for the UK economy and the people, i.e. changed her mind?

GrannyGravy13 Tue 12-Mar-19 21:47:11

It has been said for the last 2 1/2 years that the EU would make an example of UK “trying to leave the EU” to deter any other countries from doing so - beginning to look like they may succeed!

Urmstongran Tue 12-Mar-19 21:43:31

I feel dispirited tonight I must be honest. The fizz, nicely chilled, is still in the fridge.

I feel deflated..

If you are not prepared to walk away then the. E.U. will never let you leave. The only way Brexit will happen is for a general election to return a majority of MPs who are prepared to leave.

This is just theatre for the masses.
☹️

GrannyGravy13 Tue 12-Mar-19 21:39:10

lemon it is being mooted on Twitter that all though tomorrow’s vote is “free” TM is voting against no deal.
She had said from the beginning that no deal us better than a bad deal!!!
It’s a very good job that swearing is one of the things I have given up for lent ??????????

lemongrove Tue 12-Mar-19 21:36:23

Haha GG13 grin very good!
Wish I had thought of that.

Well, the vote was hardly a surprise, as everyone knew all day that would happen.
I can understand why the DUP voted against it, but as for the rest of them......they have no clue as to what should happen and can only vote for things they don’t want to happen.Nobody could/can get a better deal from the EU than the one on the table.
