Good News about Brexit! ✅

Sorry I cannot agree with your tourism analysis. The main reason for good offers at this time of the year is that thanks to EU employment laws many Tourist jobs have to have fixed periods contracts and insurance. Which results in companies, hotels etc needing to cover employment and overhead costs through out the year. They make their profits in the high season and meet slow periods on costs through special marketing deals and bar sales. In earlier years majority closed down for three months.

The OP asked for good news about brexit but so far there has been none. The best the quitters have ever come up with is things are not as bad as they might have been, damage limitation. No good news at all.

According to friends who work at the airport these 'plans' started after the referendum result.
All I know is that I'm doing my best for 'Michael' but booking fights to Corfu and Milan.
But the icing on the cake is: we have American friends visiting Ireland this summer and there are 2 flights a day to Dublin from Southend.

The plans that Petra referred to in that RyanAir would be using Southend Airport to expand its fleet and services were published in June of 2018 when many still felt that the Brexit negotiations would conclude reasonably.

However, the Brexit situation has deteriorated considerably since the above time, and there is a reluctance among many to book European holidays until that situation becomes more clear.

How that will affect Ryanair's new operations from Southend, we undoubtedly not fully know until the end of this financial year, which is April 2020.

However, if trading is "not as expected" then the carrier could curtail those services at any time.

It is a very valid question and very puzzling.

I voted remain but accepted the majority for Brexit and awaited events. Oh dear. I wanted to just get on with it. Accept the hard won deal and then sort out the various problems as they arose. However, parliament had other ideas. Their ridiculous infighting and vacillation has led to the UK economy losing £600 million a week due to the ongoing uncertainty. What is wrong with MPs?!! Am hopping mad.

Please do explain why companies offer massive discounts on their products and what that tells you about the company's 'health'.

Of course, if we crash out without a deal the pound is going to go through the floor so people won't be able to afford to go abroad. Companies are trying to entice them with cheap holidays now because they can't do it for ever. The companies would fold if they did.

Was it the Guardian from the parallel universe that you Leavers live in? Because I've read it twice and I can't find that particular bit of good news. The only thing that I could find that was 'up' was prices of flights to Amsterdam, Paris and Rome.

If Brexit is delayed beyond next Friday the EU has said that the UK would have to take part in the elections.

The government has approved preparations for European elections in May as a “contingency” measure.

David Lidington, the cabinet office minister and de facto deputy prime minister, said that the government would reimburse returning officers for “reasonable” expenses incurred preparing for a vote on May 23.

Mr Lidington said that “it remains the intention for the UK to leave the EU with a deal and not take part in the European parliamentary elections”, but in a letter to the Electoral Commission, he added: “I am able to confirm that the cabinet office will reimburse reasonable spending by returning officers on contingency preparations for European Elections."

you claimed in your post @ 12:29pm that it stated bookings were up across many companies which they are not, hence the discounts.

Therfore, I will state again; you seem to be making "good news" out of severe problems in the travel industry and all the possible repercussions for peoples jobs in that industry

There is nothing good about Brexit. To get over the impasse we need a peoples vote. If those MPs who do not trust the public then expect the public to trust them, I expect they are in for a shock, for if they do not trust us, how can they expect us to trust them at the next General Election? If my MP does not support the people she will not get our family vote (5).

I have just been looking at the breakdown of the parties’ votes on the indicative proposals. Huge raft of blue in the against votes. What do they want? I don’t think they all want no deal because there are some soft brexiteers amongst Conservative MPs. Perhaps I am cynical but is this just party politics? Incredible that this indication that holiday firms are struggling, with all the implications of that for lost jobs within the industry and lost revenue in the UK economy, is seen as 'good news'.

I was always for WTO. Hate the Remainers ‘crashing out without a deal’. However, my compromise was TM’s deal. I didn’t like it but thought ‘okay, it seems fair enough’ 60% Leave and 40% Remain. A good indicator of a compromise is that both sides of an argument are not altogether happy!

But once again it looks like a dead duck. So I’m back to my preferred option of WTO. I have remained consistent in my views. Perfectly reasonable in my opinion!

Urmstongran’s version of good news has lurched from May’s deal to compromise to backing the elite extremists. Almost as many u turns as our esteemed government.
