I do wonder what the obsession is with Jeremy Corbyn. It's the Labour Party and it's policies that matter - you either think they are overall the ones you would vote for or you don't. Jeremy Corbyn has raised Labour's profile and attracted thousands of new voters but he is neither God nor the devil and will not be there for ever. If you prefer another party vote for it, talk it up and tell us all about it but the way some people virtually stalk Corbyn on here verges on the sort of neurosis that affects stalkers.

Grandad I am sure you are capable of looking up the Brexit Party on Google. They are a brand new party and concentrating on the EU elections. When there is a general election they will set out their policies for all to see.

Firecracker123 Mon 15-Apr-19 14:21:37

Iam64 I've made no mention of David Lammys colour, only some posters on here saying they want a token black person or woman to front the Labour party. David Lammy IMHO is a buffoon with a mighty chip on his shoulder, with his white saviour remarks and his Nazi jibes against Jacob Rees Mogg and Co. hi

Bridgeit Mon 15-Apr-19 14:21:27

Surely it should be normal(By now) to have a black & or female leader or any other connotation of a human, without the need to pinpoint, highlight etc
On the other hand we do use & need to use descriptive words to help identify each other.

Go Labour!!! Go Jezza!!!!!

Some poll news

I wouldn’t not vote for anyone because they were female or black and I wouldn’t vote for anyone just because they were female or black.

GabriellaG54 Mon 15-Apr-19 08:47:05

Best person for the job regardless of 'colour' or 'gender'.
To deliberately target either sector is totally wrong IMV.

Firecracker123 Quote [The Brexit Party is the way forward.]End Quote

Firecracker123, so, the Brexit party is the way forward. Therefore, can you inform me and others what their policy is on the NHS, Social Housing, NATO, maintenance of the Living Wage, Pension Policy and with Brexit, the solution to the Northern Ireland Border issue?

There are obviously questions regarding many more policy matters that could be asked, but the above would be a good start.

Iam64 Mon 15-Apr-19 08:36:01

Firecracker, you may know some people "up North" you would desert there LP in droves if David Lammy became leader. Why? If its because of his colour I disagree I don't know any LP members or voters who'd desert if the party leader was black (or female)
If its because of his pro European views, remember lots of us vote labour who also voted remain

Firecracker123 Mon 15-Apr-19 08:35:50

Diane Abbott the Labour Party would be a laughing stock.

Anniebach Mon 15-Apr-19 08:31:13

Not Rebecca Long-Bailey.

Female, black, why not Diane Abbott

Firecracker123 Mon 15-Apr-19 08:23:26

Good grief David Lammy as Leader of the Labour Party how out of touch can some people be, he might be a hit in London but up North they would be deserting the Labour Party in droves. Both the Labour and Conservative parties are finished. The Brexit Party is the way forward.

Iam64 Mon 15-Apr-19 08:14:16

I'd celebrate a black or female leader of the LP because so far, its never had one. There are a number of excellent potential candidates from those minority groups.

What is it about Jess Philips that the left don't like? I know she doesn't worship at the foot of Corbyn but she's following his tradition of disagreeing , at times, with the Leader.

LullyDully Mon 15-Apr-19 08:11:09

That the Labour party needs someone with brains and integrity. They are needed as an opposition or a good ruling party. No doubt Jeremy and Diane have neither brains not integrity imo.?

GabriellaG54 Mon 15-Apr-19 00:47:58

Personally, I'd like to see some true Northern grit take a leading role in running this country.
Ms Blow-dry seems a good fit and her soon-to-be husband sings from the same hymn sheet which is perfect.

GabriellaG54 Mon 15-Apr-19 00:44:36

trisher
That's abhorrent.
To celebrate his colour just deepens the divide.
I thought most posters were colour blind from what has been said on other threads.
Why would you celebrate a man of colour any more than anyone else...?

sharon103 Mon 15-Apr-19 00:23:22

Agree Lyndiloo

Eloethan Sun 14-Apr-19 23:59:36

I would not want to see Jess Phillips as Leader of the Labour Party.

I quite like Rebecca Long-Bailey and Lisa Nandy. I don't agree with everything they say but it is unnecessary, and impossible anyway, to agree 100% on every issue.

I think there is too much emphasis played on the leader of a party/prime minister. It is important that the team as a whole is hardworking, committed to doing its best for the country, strong and knowledgeable,

jura2 Sun 14-Apr-19 21:44:15

But if you can get honest + - then great. And I feel Lammy is that double whammy.

Anniebach Sun 14-Apr-19 13:41:11

Female and or black isn’t as important as honest

trisher Sun 14-Apr-19 13:24:20

Watching David Lammy on Andrew Marr couldn't help wondering is this the next Labour leader? Very assured, very passionate, very committed. If they couldn't get the first woman PM the first black PM would be something to celebrate.

Ilovecheese Sun 14-Apr-19 12:03:18

Current Labour party policies are not far left.

MaizieD Sun 14-Apr-19 09:31:51

Surveys continually reveal that the electorate like Labour policies and aspirations so long as the people surveyed aren't told they are Labour policies.
The minute the source of the policies is revealed respondents back off. What does that tell us about voter attitudes and tribal voting?

Anniebach Sun 14-Apr-19 08:17:48

A far left party has to appeal to voters across the country , it cannot win an election with membership votes only.
