Does anyone still seriously believe that Russia is at some point going to attack us. Do they not realise that today's wars are run in countries where the people are too poor or too disorganised to protest and the only purpose of our massive arms industry is to supply the aggressors.
Amongs the diatribes about Corbyn on this thread are one or two criticisms of policies which reveal how little some know about things.
Let's begin with student debt. Firstly very soon huge amounts will be written off as individual debts mature without being cleared. Secondly the admin costs for collecting the little that is collected are huge. So writing off the debt would probably save money in the long run.
On to schools I would imagine making any forecast about schools today would be incredibly difficult. This Tory government has cut education spending to the core and in doing so have created a massive crisis. In the process they have lied and given out false information about their spending. No one can forecast exactly what will be needed until the true facts are known.
To those complaining about the amount of council tax they are charged. This is the direct result of cuts to government funding to councils.

Altering Bob Dylan’s words slightly
For the times they are , and, ‘ should ‘ be a’changing’

gillybob Fri 03-May-19 15:11:02

I did say “my” council tax not my business council tax / rates maryeliza. Yes we have struggled for many years and have never really recovered from the financial crash of 2008 when 2 of our biggest customers went bust owing us 10’s of thousands £s ! Selling all of our personal assets in order to pay debts and secure jobs , felt like the right and decent thing to do at the time but ( with the power of hindsight) obviously wasn’t . The point I was trying to make is that our labour controlled council persecute businesses and see us as cash cows to keep their overpaid executives in the manner to which they are all very accustomed !

Bridgeit Fri 03-May-19 14:57:28

JC would be better suited to a small commune.
He is not the right person to be leader of theLabour party in today’s politics & circumstances.(IMO)

GrannyGravy13 Fri 03-May-19 14:55:38

Grany unfortunately the world does not work like that. For the UK not to be armed and ready would leave us extremely vulnerable. Especially whilst Putin is at the helm in Russia.

Nobody likes / wants combat but "fail to prepare - prepare to fail"

Sorry I cannot agree with the fact that Corbyn et al are intelligent you only have to watch Diane Abbott and that theory is blown out of the water.

The Tories are not much better I agree, but better the devil you know.

Grany Fri 03-May-19 14:45:12

Good Corbyn is a pacifist we don't want a leader like Dodgy Dave Cameron and May selling arms to Saudi Arabia to kill Yemenis which incidentally her husband profits from. Jeremy Corbyn and his team are intelligent hardworking not like the clowns in the Tory government. Give me a peacemaker anytime, time for change and peace a better world is possible.

Bridgeit Fri 03-May-19 14:39:28

Ohhps GG13

Bridgeit Fri 03-May-19 14:36:45

Exactly GG1 , NF at the helm is IMO the Worst case scenario & this is very worrying both mainstream parties are allowing a wolf to enter the sheep’s pen .

Ilovecheese Fri 03-May-19 14:31:44

I have a small business.
I am not a member of Momentum.
I vote labour because of their policies.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 03-May-19 14:24:48

Bridgeit totally agree, I have no idea on who could be the next viable/electable leader of any of the mainstream parties, including Lib Dems as Vince Cable has said he is retiring.

They are walking if not running towards handing things on a plate to Nigel Farage???

Bridgeit Fri 03-May-19 14:20:26

Exactly JC is making the Labour Party unacceptable to what I will call the average Labour supporter
Both main parties sadly have the worst Leaders precisely at a time when we need younger, fresher ,in tune , forward thinking politicians.
Time for shakeups across the board.

Urmstongran Fri 03-May-19 14:18:03

It's interesting that Corbyn's supporters always assume it's personal. He's a national politician, not some kindly old grandad. And he's crap at politics. He'll sink the Labour party with his Brexit fudge. He's totally fair game for criticism.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 03-May-19 14:13:38

Corbyn should have stayed being a "political activist/protester" he would sell this country up the swanny!!

He is far to much of a pacifist to command any respect from foreign leaders, other than Hamas, IRA (new and old) or any other anti establishment or dare I say terrorist organisation.

Mycatisahacker Fri 03-May-19 14:04:52

Mmmm ok if you say so. I don’t know one other business owner who would trust Corbyn?

Not labour btw just Corbyn. I have previously voted labour

GrannyGravy13 Fri 03-May-19 13:57:31

GGMK3 Can I respectfully say you are talking out of somewhere which is not your mouth.

Our business has been going for over 40years - you can bet your life it's as you put it viable!!!!

We are employers, and extremely well respected in our field. None of which guarantees that there will not be lean years!!!!

Mycatisahacker Fri 03-May-19 13:48:32

You clearly have never run a small business petal

Mycatisahacker Fri 03-May-19 13:47:31

Is that Venezuela by any chance? Or his friends Hamas in Garza that shoots protesters demanding an election?

Do tell where these socialist utopias are.,

GracesGranMK3 Fri 03-May-19 13:46:16

The more I hear about these small businesses, whose owners seem to have done reasonably well but who seem to have been "struggling" for some years, the more I wonder if they are just not viable. You really can't blame governments for how the market works against you if that is the government you voted in.

GracesGranMK3 Fri 03-May-19 13:40:27

Labour's policies are mainstream in other countries they are thriving. Grany (Fri 03-May-19 11:27:27)

Exactly Grany. The policies are far from anything unusual. The idea of Corbyn being a bogeyman is just for Tory's useful idiots, who end up acting for a cause whose aims they do not understand.

Mycatisahacker Fri 03-May-19 13:39:50

Any not why.

Mycatisahacker Fri 03-May-19 13:39:31

GG

We own a modest business by working a dam sight harder than Corbyn and I agree I don’t know why self employed person who wants him.

How core voters are the idealistic daft students who don’t pay tax, the hard left who probably equally don’t pay tax and rich celebs who talk the socialist talk but can afford good accountants to hide their wealth.,

Mycatisahacker Fri 03-May-19 13:35:37

I love Jess Phillips did anyone see the speech she made about thinking eating olives was posh. So funny she’s a lovely warm woman but I don’t always share her politics.

Urmstongran Fri 03-May-19 13:34:04

Well Annie I suppose Diane Abbott is sitting pretty as she’s a Remain MP in a Remain constituency. Okay by her then.
Whereas Jess doesn’t want a GE - but then she is a Remain MP in Leave constituency so she’ll want to hang on by her fingertips for as long as she can!

Grany Fri 03-May-19 13:24:05

Fennel That's correct re USA
I meant sone European countries

GrannyGravy13 Fri 03-May-19 12:35:14

Look at France rioting for 20+ weeks, huge riots on May Day in several cities nine of which shown on main stream news outlets???

Poland has had protest marches this week also.

I do not know one small/medium business owner who would like a Corbyn led government or any Labour government whilst it is in the hands of its paymaster- momentum!!!
