He’s really stuck to what he believes in hasn’t he? His supporters must be so proud of him ( not to mention Nanny of course). So he gets the chance to change his mind but the great unwashed don’t?

If I'm a potted plant, I was in good compost - an excellent education in 40s/50s Scottish state system. What a snob that creature is.

crystaltipps Sat 06-Apr-19 08:15:05

He called people who went to state school “ potted plants”.

Confidence is internal and has nothing to do with money, although it can help. There are plenty of people from privileged backgrounds who lack it. For obvious reasons we never hear about them.

There are plenty of people from other backgrounds who have it as well. I was fortunate to come from a family where it is built in, even though they were Irish immigrants and English labourers and dockers. Among London's poorest in late 19th century. But they had the confidence to make the most of all the opportunities available, especially educational.

Confidence is there for the taking by anyone.

I disagree, the reason being that money isn't a cure-all.
There are many wealthy individuals who have problems which you or I might easily surmount but they, with all their money, cannot.
Confidence has part of it's roots in identity, in family, in the security of routine which is not confined to rich people.
Too much money can be as debilitating and destabilising as too little.
Believing in yourself counts for a lot.

maddyone Fri 05-Apr-19 23:09:31

Absolutely Gabriella.

Lily65 Fri 05-Apr-19 23:06:11

they are confident because they are loaded........simples really

GabriellaG54 Fri 05-Apr-19 23:02:28

Individuals who mock the rich and those with 'posh' accents, nannies and an Eton, Harrow, Fettes, Charterhouse or similar education, show what mighty chips they have on their shoulders.
It's rarely, if ever, heard that the above individuals mock the 'less fortunate' classes.
Just remember, these were children brought up by parents who themselves, in many cases, were coddled by money and nannies.
Like teaches like.
I well know families whose children and they themselves, have attended these establishments and never heard any of them put down anyone of, what one might term, 'a lower social standing'.
That is because they are confident in who they are.
I can happily and confidently mix with anyone and have no inferiority complex at all.
There is no need to dislike or mock people who had no say in to whom and under what circumstances they were born, raised and educated.

Lily65 Fri 05-Apr-19 22:00:43

Oh yeah, hang on my nanny is right here beside me.

Anniebach Fri 05-Apr-19 21:54:12

Weird ? Not at all , it’s quite usual for nannies to stay with the family through old age

Lily65 Fri 05-Apr-19 21:51:17

Because his nanny is now the kids' nanny......weird much?

Anniebach Fri 05-Apr-19 21:21:08

Why have some got a thing about ‘nannies’, class war ?

Lily65 Fri 05-Apr-19 19:24:25

I dislike him because he is a smarmy, rich git who inhabits a fantasy world.

M0nica Fri 05-Apr-19 18:23:21

His father, William Rees-Mogg was a journalist and editor of The Times, at a time, pre-Murdoch, when it was a pillar of the Establishment.

Ginny42 Fri 05-Apr-19 17:16:11

I dislike JRM not because he's rich, but because of his attitude. He is the product of his upbringing as we all are, but when he's being pompous and putting people down in the HoC or reciting poetry so that a really important motion runs out of time, he is behaving like a despicable bully. His upbringing must therefore have inculcated in him a sense of entitlement to be arrogant. He and his cronies in the ERG are the ones holding the PM to ransome.

In his own way he is every bit as nasty as a thug. His behaviour is bullying and thuggish, delivered in a posh accent.

Lily65 Fri 05-Apr-19 17:02:51

I like the phrase " slapped down" . Maybe nanny will give him one of her special puddings.

vigdis Fri 05-Apr-19 15:49:37

... appalling behaviour. It is we who are asking for extensions. Doesn't this arrogant man understand that the EU has a right to consider its own obligations, schedules, rules and plans? He thinks they should simply bow to the demands of him and his ilk? Why?
I wondee if our fiture trading partners-to-be are watching. Would you want to make deals with a country that is behaving like third world despots in pin stripes?
The conceit and hubris of this man is umbelievable.

The European Commission has slapped down Jacob-Rees Mogg after the leading Brexiteer suggested the United Kingdom should wilfully cause chaos at the EU institutions if Brexit was delayed.

Ardent Brexiteer Jacob Rees-Mogg has a habit of making grand statements on Twitter, only for them to backfire badly.

In the past, the Tory MP has been roasted by JK Rowling for his tweets about the Brexit deal with the EU where he is firmly in favour of leaving the EU with no-deal.

Now he is encouraging people to invest in the city of London after sharing an article by the pro-Brexit political blog Guido Fawkes which reports that EU investors are considering moving to the UK because of Brexit.

I am a big fan of Jacob and would be very happy to have him as my constituency MP. He said he would only vote for May's deal if the DUP agree to, which they won't.

To hate someone just because they are rich is a shameful attitude and tells you what is wrong with a lot of Labour supporters. If they come into money themselves, of course, I expect then that they give it all away to the 'deserving' poor, if that happens!!!!

Richard Branson is a big Remainer but, neither lives in the UK ( to avoid paying tax), nor does he base his company in an EU state either. His head office is in Switzerland, an non EU state (to take advantage of its good tax breaks).

Mrs May doesn't actually have a deal as a country can only start trade negotiations once they are no longer a member state of the EU. So all she had actually agreed to is to give the EU £39 billion and have a transition period of up to 2 years where things remain roughly the same but, in truth, it means the UK will never actually leave the EU because the Irish backstop will always be used as an argument in case we decide to diverge from EU rules.

The EU has allowed some French dependencies in Africa to become EU members so please do not tell me they follow all EU rules and regulations on their borders.

Jalima1108 Thu 28-Mar-19 16:59:34

^ I think he’ll support May’s deal even though he claims it is worse than remaining and has voted against it , but then oust May and try to gain power with Bojo.^
crystaltipps I think you are right

I thought POGS meant I was minted and living in luxury and therefore couldn't throw my metaphorical stones.
and I thought that it was Lily65 who had said that, sorry Lily, if I did not name you, but then, apparently I do get muddled!
I must check where my very tiny annuity is invested - you never know. Or my considerable millions in the bank - are they all ethically invested by my personal banker?

Anja Thu 28-Mar-19 16:39:11

Why? What did it say? Missed it!

GabriellaG54 Thu 28-Mar-19 16:01:25

I maintain every word of my deleted post whoever was frustrated enough to report it.

confused GabbyG ?

Jabberwok Thu 28-Mar-19 14:55:36

Yes there is a difference between state a private, but the odd thing is that some politicians are not keen on sending their offspring to the local Comp, but prefer one outside their area because?!!!! Other lesser folk of course have to take what is on offer, how strange is that?!!!!!
