What do we think of Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party?

Whatever side of the debate you’re on he is very watchable.

I wonder how they’ll do in the elections ( if we have them )

MaizieD Sat 04-May-19 21:14:09

IMO, NF and the Brexit Party is the change this country needs.

But how can you possibly know that, GG54, when he has no policies?

GabriellaG54 Sat 04-May-19 21:36:46

I have trust that he'll do the right thing for leavers after all, the policies of the two main parties haven't got us very far...now have they?
The vast majority of comments regarding elections and the leave/ stay question make it clear that very few trust either of the two main parties. Lib Dems as far as nationals are, in this case, a faux vote.
Have you nowt better to do than rubbish someone else's voting preferences?
Had I been a Labour Con or Lib Dem voter, you'd probably have had something derogatory or sneering to say about each of them, as you have on this and similar subjects in comments to other posters.
We don't agree.
I'm happy with my choices.
You're happy with yours.
I hope you enjoy the rest of your evening.

...and if I were to go into a wine merchants, say, Berry Bros, and ask for Petrus they will know what I'm talking about and then we'll discuss the year and what food I'm serving among other diversions.
If it's good enough for Andrew Lloyd Webber to simply say Petrus then it's good enough for me and yes, I have met him in a social setting.

An incredible level of self-importance, not to mention the feeble attempt to impress by name-dropping!

MawBroonsback Sat 04-May-19 22:09:02

? ?
Drop you names here! gringrin
(Ah kent his faither forbye)

I'm not rubbishing your voting choices; I'm trying to find out why you have made that choice.

If NF is to make any difference at all to how Brexit is achieved he would have to be running the country. He'd have to be the leader of the party with the most MPs in Parliament. To achieve that he'd have to be elected (7 failed attempts so far) to Parliament and to have a substantial body of his party members (300+) also elected to Parliament. His chances of doing that are just about nil.

He's likely to get a few MEPs for his 'party' in the forthcoming EP elections but MEPs have no influence whatsoever over UK policy/government. All his MEPs will do is nothing, if his example is anything to go by; just draw undeserved MEP's salaries and be an irritant to the EU and an embarrassment to the UK.

It's all unbelievably futile.

Oh Maw, it's lovely to see the doric.

I haven't read this thread but I am amazed so much can be written about a party we know so little about.

GabriellaG54 Sat 04-May-19 22:47:44

Futile it may be in your mind and in the minds of those that follow your views.
I'm not interested in how you or anyone else votes and I'm not on a mission to rubbish any other party or their members or leaders as you seem to be.
It's enough for me to know what I know and what I don't know I can find out.
I'm contentwith my choices and have no need to ask you about yours or indulge in silly questions, the answers to which probably elicit more scorn veiled as serious questions.
Forget it.
I'm not that sort of person.
Nothing...absolutely nothing will ever ruffle me so give up and turn your attentions to some other target.
I won't be responding to any other posts that you, Varian, MawBroonsback, Jura, Lily65, MaryEliza, mcem or any of your cohorts post. It's like an echo chamber.

a party? There is no party...it's himself and whatever dross he can gather up.

I think that she thinks it's a posh word for a gang! Or should that be gangs (pl)
(She only does 'posh' you see!)
Like the posh folks that she meets in social settings!
(Or maybe it's setting's as she does like her apostrophes).
Night all!

Dinahmo Sun 05-May-19 01:07:36

GG54 - having checked on the price of Chateau Petrus I'm surprised that you bother with the rest of us hoi polloi. You're obviously way above the rest of us in social class!

MawBroonsback Sun 05-May-19 06:36:49

Or would like you to think so hmm
Some people do claim to move in exclusive circles, such as knowing someone who knows someone who knows an electrician at Windsor Castle who overheard a footman - or some such.
Like knowing a man who danced with a girl who danced with....etc

It’s the height of vulgarity to boast about one’s wealth or name drop. The Queen told me that. ?

It is interesting to see what happened in Sunderland this weeks in the local elections.

Sunderland is an example of communities who have experienced some hard knocks from Tory economic and social policies since Thatcher. It has always been rock solid Labour voting area.
Salaries are lower than the national average, and unemployment is higher.
Communities have never emotionally recovered from the closure of the mines.
Sunderland voted to leave the EU. The communities saw a chance to stick it to the Tory government and grabbed it with both hands.

Now the interesting thing now is that Farage cannot necessarily rely on that vote holding solid.
If you look at what happened last week it is clear that whilst Labour lost a huge amount of votes, they did not all go to UKIP. The Lib-Dems and Greens picked up many of those votes and did well.

The same picture unfolded throughout the Country.

Farage will have to work hard to re-convince the voter of his nationalist message.

I once saw Fizz of Corrie, is that any good?

MawBroonsback Sun 05-May-19 10:25:54

I once hitched a lift with Edwin Starr and his road manager. Does that count?
