What do we think of Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party?

Perhaps you can turn that quote around GracesGran, in two world wars Germany tried to beat Britain into submission.

Back to Nigel Farage. I thought his performance was stellar!

My only concern is will people actually bother to go out and vote for the Brexit Party? There is a lot of apathy about. If expectations are high some people will think their vote isn’t ‘needed’ to carry the momentum.

Urmstongran I think Brexit Party will pick up plenty of votes in the EU elections as the main parties are full of "numpties" at the moment.

Not so sure if they will garner the same support in a General Election though.

I just want to see an end to this utter chaos, TM with her constant "no deal is better than a bad deal" mantra bottling it at the last moment!!!

Not really sure what Labour stands for as it changes with whoever is being interviewed.

These self serving pocket lining MPs need to listen to their constituents, get out and meet people and actually realise the mood outside of "the London bubble"

I fell asleep during BBCQT but what I saw NF definitely has the courage of his convictions, will try to catch up with it later today.

Yes I’m hopeful GG13 I just don’t want to count my chickens I suppose!

The reason (I think) he appeals is because he promotes the confidence of leaving without a deal if necessary. Just get us out!

Last night’s documentary on BBC4 highlighted the fact that ‘no deal’ should never have been taken off the table. It was our only bargaining chip and it was voted away. How daft!

Of course the BP ( sorry limited company with secret donors and no members) will do well in the EU elections.

Stellar???
Bolshie and blustering!
However, to continue your stellar analogy, I hope he implodes and disappears into his own black hole of deviousness and dishonesty!

QT last night was a disgrace. It was nothing short of a Party Political Broadcast for NF, with a shouty audience packed full of his supporters.

With less than 2 weeks to go until the Euro Elections, I thought it was incumbent on the BBC to have panels comprising representatives of all the Parties contesting the election? Or at least the big 4 Lb, Con. Lib & SNP with 1 from a minority party or an Independent.

No wonder people call it the 'Brexit BC'

Very good mcem
?

Whatever one thinks of his performance (with Soubry & Rudd just promoting ‘more of the same’ and Rudd ‘let’s just get this first part through’) the audience went wild and cheered Nigel - we Leavers are delighted to have a champion to facilitate Brexit!

The QT audience has, for the last twenty years, been selected by "audience producer" Alison Fuller-Pedley, a former member of UKIP. Obviously her selection will go wild and cheer liar Farage. What else do we expect from the Brexit Broadcasting Corporation?

Really? I thought they were trying to subsume the countries around them and we went in to support our allies. They might have got to us later or they might have just let us be; we will never know.

I am quite happy to say that the fascist leader of Germany led them into desperate days and that hugely evil thing occurred but, unlike you Firecraker, I am not about to start having my own personal truths.

So, did Farage tell people about his sponsors/policies etc?

This man (NF ) knows how to play a crowd ,& tap into discontent as others have before him, but when it comes to substance, detail, & reality......... ???? This is the most dangerous type of person ,he can talk the talk but he won’t be able to walk the walk.! Cuckoo Land comes to mind. The choices on offer are the worst we have been asked to vote for, for many a year (IMO) .

Firecraker, I can see the old-fashioned views of the war in your post and I wonder just how old you are. There seems to be a generation that, having been children during the war, feel they missed out on being heroes and now want a re-run so they can feel they are.

Personally, I have no doubt that the good people of Germany who followed a fascist were no different from the good people of the UK who are idolising Farage. Very few set out to be evil but evilly motivated leadership can destroy a country.

Shows how silly some on here are being by comparing Nigel Farage to fascism. That’s some stretch! Crazy.

Which is the better option?
A) A party which lays out it's policies but fails to deliver time and again and/or lies about it's ability to keep it's promises
OR
B) A party which has not made known it's policies (if it has any) therefore cannot renege or disappoint on delivery?
Please don't start lambasting any party or dropping links like confetti. A straight answer A or B would be appreciated.

I watched the BBC4 documentary over the last two nights and must admit I was appalled at the foul language and contempt with which the Brussels bureaucrats seemed to treat the UK. When they thought that a deal had been achieved two members of the EU team were asked for their thought on the outcome they replied "We kicked them out on our terms and turned them into a colony."

I think everyone needs to watch this to see what the EU has turned into.

John Crace sees the funny side at NF's recent press conference. I know that some of you will appreciate this

This extract is for all our expert Gnet negotiators who could have done so much better than our government's team

Tice went on to outline the new modus operandi. After winning the EU elections, the Brexit party was going to insist that its MEPs be invited to take part in negotiating a no-deal Brexit. Even though the whole point of a no-deal Brexit was that there wasn’t anything to negotiate, the Brexit party’s MEPs were going to be on hand to oversee the negotiations that weren’t going to happen. Like Nige before them, they would be in Brussels to do absolutely nothing whatsoever.

“We have the highest-quality candidates,” Tice insisted. “People who are far better qualified in negotiations than our current MPs and civil servants.” Because the reason the UK was in its current state of crisis was that no one had asked Annunziata Rees-Mogg, Claire Fox, Ann Widdecombe or Martin Daubney to be involved as its chief Brexit negotiators.

Think about it a minute. What had been missing was a woman who couldn’t even negotiate the family nanny away from her brother, an apologist for IRA killings who holds others to far higher standards than she does herself, a Strictly Come Dancing contestant and a man whose chief contribution to public life had been to edit a lads’ mag. Who knew that the last three years could have been so different if only this quartet had been called into action. It’s a view, I suppose.

There are no true heroes in war.
Only misguided footsoldiers of governments who want to inflict death and/or injury on fellow men for whatever reason.
War never solves anything but creates festering sores in hearts and minds and on the landscape of the world in which we live, all of which lie untreated and in ruins for millenia.

I read John Crace yesterday but thanks anyway MaizieD!

P.s. what do Remainers think please of the insulting EU team of negotiators? Give them their due, they took no prisoners. We needed a better team and to have kept ‘no deal’ alive - it was the only time the EU team were worried about the outcome when the clock was ticking down to 29 March.

We were such fools.

But the Remain team (TM, Olly Robbins) and Remain voters were delighted.

I hope we won’t get fooled again.

These self serving pocket lining MPs ...

Irony is alive and well on Gnet

If our man of the people is so concerned about MP's pocket lining why is his snout deep in the trough?

A nice list of links to his deep appreciation of all the dosh he can possibly extract from 'our money' as an MEP

Remain voters have never been "delighted" that this country has wasted so much time, effort and billions of taxpayers money on this brexit nonsense. We have been appalled.

Isn't it interesting to see just how dictatorial the right-wing/pro-leave posters are? Never an "I think" or "in my opinion"; every opinion immediately becomes a fact.

Well, the above is, in my opinion, GabriellaG54, rubbish. You might just as well say there are no heroes in life - which is simply not true. Just as a one-off I offer you, Maximilian Kolbe.

I would agree that war rarely moves us forward. "Festering sores" are a choice in life, you can choose to keep picking at them as many of the older but not old generation do, or look for reconciliation. I can't see the Brexiteers, whose aim seems to be to split the country so they can raise their banner shouting "it was us what won it" ever trying to heal the country and bring it together.

... what do Remainers think please of the insulting EU team of negotiators? (Fri 10-May-19 10:21:45)

Politics is full of egos. I imagine something similar was being said back here whenever they thought they had done well. It appears puerile comments are not just for the pages of GN.

As for the negotiators from the UK, given the condition of the sow's ear, there was never any real likelihood of a silk purse, whoever was trying to concoct one.
