He's 46 so wouldn't be the youngest by any means - Blair and Cameron were younger and Major not much older.

I only speak for myself but as a longstanding member of the party, I have never heard any LibDem member say such a thing, although some voters were not happy.
I am not a LD party member but vote for them most of the time - to say that some voters were not happy is an under-statement to say the least - they disappeared practically without trace after throwing their lot in with the Tories!!

Nick Clegg can take whatever job he chooses after leaving politics but his choice of job does say a lot about him.

Johnson is to appear in court. So they must consider that he has a case to answer.

Rory Stewart for me, but I think it's a forlorn hope. He sounds so sensible and speaks in a calm measured fashion, but he's probably too young and not to the party's liking.

And regards DC, yes he might be loaded but he probably wants something to do. Most people would at his age (I would be the exception to that rule though!).

Well, he hasn't yet and he has been gone two years. osborne had about three jobs within weeks of steppig down and Clegg has been in post for about six months.

I think that is a very sweeping statement about those educated at Eton. Some families make enormous sacrifices to pay fees at schools like that and a quite a number of boys are there on scholarships, including several reserved from boys from state primaries.

Anyone who went to Eton probably doesn’t need to work.

Why should a high earning wife mean that a man shoudn't want to earn as much as her. Turn the genders around, isn't one of the things that women have fought against over the years, been that the wife of a high earning man shouldn't have an equally high earning career and should devote herself to the three Ks. If we have objected to that why should men not.

We don’t know what jobs DC has been offered - all we know is that he seems to have been concentrating on his memoirs and as MD says lucrative speaking engagements.

There’s nothing wrong MO in having expectations that a politician particularly given much of what he said he stood for, could have made a contribution to our society in his post political career. He has a high earning wife which also gives him a cushion which many people affected by austerity do not have the benefit of.

David Cameron doesn't need a job, though; he's wealthy enough to do without one. He can earn squillions for one after dinner speech, of course, though why people want to listen to the man who broke the UK is completely beyond me. He does need a time filler though, I believe he's getting a bit bored...

Politicians are real people with families to support and the fact that large companies are prepared to offer jobs and pay them well suggests they think if they can function in the mad house that is Parliament that they can deal with anything. Some are recruited for their contacts, but nowadays anyone working for a big company at a senior level is expected to bring more to the job than contacts.

I can think of no good reason why ex politicians should have to be more noble and self sacrificing in their choice of jobs than anyone else. An awful lot of people work for Facebook, Amazon, M&S, etc etc. Why should politicians not work for them. They are meant to be men and women of the people.

The significant thing is that no one has offered David Cameron a job and it will be interesting to see what happens to Teresa May if she chooses to leave Parliament, although as she is in her early 60s and will almost certainly see this Parliament out, she could always opt for early retirement.

Never mind the tuition fees debacle. I can’t forgive Nick Clegg for making me a WASPI - he and the Lib Dems brought forward the pension change by a full 10 years during the times of austerity - to the delight of his Tory stablemates.

It is a crime to earn a good salary so you can pay lots of tax to support public services.
