I wondered how long it would be - this BBC employed racist has tweeted a photo( which I won’t post) likening Archie to a chimpanzee. He’s now deleted it and issued a totally inadequate apology ( not that there could be an adequate one). What an absolute shit - I really think he should be sacked immediately

I have always thought Danny Baker smug and self-satisfied, someone who imagines his is the only correct view. That James O'Brien is making excuses for his is rather telling. Another, along with Chris Evans who thinks his opinion is the only worthy one.

No excuses for this vile behaviour. Glad he has gone.

Why is it that one or two of you have adopted double-standards all of a sudden ? Is it because of the Royal status here ?? Meaning that if the couple had been the " Joe Bloggs's " of this world everyone and his dog would have been up in arms !

M0nica Thu 09-May-19 13:40:52

Well I have looked at the picture and if that isn't racist in the context in which it was used, nothing would be. No one who hasn't been living with a plastic bag over their head since they were 5 could miss the subtext.

SirChenjin Thu 09-May-19 13:36:34

Of come off it trisher. He posted a photo which represents the couple and their child - he knew what he was doing, he just thought he would stir things up a bit, cause a bit of media debate among the red tops, and raise his profile a bit. It's all blown up in his face though - and rightly so.

trisher Thu 09-May-19 13:31:28

Which one of the couple is black ? I missed that!!!

trisher Thu 09-May-19 13:30:26

EV it was the REFEREE he advised people to protest about and the decision he made. The ethnicity of the player involved was nothing to do with it ( as it should in football). Raising such a thing might be considered racist.

SirChenjin Thu 09-May-19 13:27:50

A photo of a posh couple (one of whom is black) holding the hands of a chimp dressed as a child? Yep, that's racist and extremely offensive.

Sparklefizz Thu 09-May-19 13:25:40

Gonegirl Have you actually posted a link to the picture? I can't believe you are spreading it around. Honestly! [anger]

SirChenjin Thu 09-May-19 13:24:55

The link isn't tenuous in the slightest trisher. Unless you've been living under a rock for many years you know full well that monkey is a racist slur when it's linked to someone who is black.

Gonegirl Thu 09-May-19 13:23:37

He was thoughtless and stupid. But then, he's a comedian. They're not known for having common sense. hmm

EllanVannin Thu 09-May-19 13:23:35

I really feel for the Royal family. What a wicked thing to do.

If this yob isn't racist, why did he make such a reference to the Royal couple Trisha ??
As for the referee, wasn't that against a black player ?

Gonegirl Thu 09-May-19 13:22:07

I have found a pic of the tweet now. I was wrong about it being a pic of M and H. Yes, it's a posh couple from the twenties holding a chimp's hands.

He was making fun of the clothes they wear. I do not believe he meant to be racist.

trisher Thu 09-May-19 13:21:47

Just because you did Sparklefizz doesn't mean everyone has.

Sparklefizz Thu 09-May-19 13:19:50

It would help if people actually looked at what really happened.

trisher I have looked, it was tasteless in the extreme, I happen to think it was racist too, and sacking him was the right outcome.

trisher Thu 09-May-19 13:16:30

There was no imposed photo. The picture tweeted was of a couple in 1930s outfits holding hands with a chimpanzee dressed in a bowler hat and jacket. So the link with Meghan is tenuous to say the least.
He didn't encourage rascism on the pitch he did tell people to hold the referee to account about a disputed penalty.
It would help if people actually looked at what really happened.

Sparklefizz Thu 09-May-19 13:15:42

GoneGirl Where are you coming from? I just don't understand your reasoning. How can you say "No way would he be racist". He already has been!

M0nica Thu 09-May-19 13:12:42

Oh, come on, GG do you really think a picture like that shown in the context of a child with mixed race parents, whether famous or not, is not racist? adding a superficial remark about clothes to my mind adds to the racism aspect as it is such a flimsy excuse for it.

Whether one uses the word 'monkey' to describe people in other circumstance s, such as the one Baggs described is irrelevant, there are lots of situations similar to that.

When my children were babies and I was breast feeding them, which I was able to do very successfully, I would often refer to myself as making a very good cow. However if anyone in any other situation other than that very intimate domestic one ever referred to me as a cow, I would be insulted because in a different context the word is used as an insult.

EllanVannin Thu 09-May-19 13:11:54

This same sub-human encouraged racism on the football pitch and was pulled up about that !!

SirChenjin Thu 09-May-19 13:09:41

You mean, no-one would think that Meghan Markle as herself, a black woman, might think it extremely racist and generally revolting of DB to superimpose a photo of a chimp on her baby's face? Y'know, given that monkey is a racial slur?

Whitewavemark2 Thu 09-May-19 13:08:10

I think this conversation has gone far enough.

trisher Thu 09-May-19 13:08:01

maryeliza54 I haven't why should I? He is an extraordianry person who is not only funny but very perceptive usually. I would think he never gave a thought to Meghan's ethnicity and perhaps he should have. But really the condemnation on this thread is ridiculous. I was looking at the whole person not just a single tweet.

Gonegirl Thu 09-May-19 13:07:46

No way would he be racist.

Gonegirl Thu 09-May-19 13:05:59

I mean, I know she would be classed as 'black', but I don't think anyone really thinks of her as being anything other than just herself.

SirChenjin Thu 09-May-19 13:04:16

It's not a case of 'thinking' she's black.
