Confirmatory Vote

If an agreement on a WA is reached, and it is a big if, Starmer has said that Labour intends to put the final decision to the U.K.

Given that the vote for leave left wide open the way we left, and also given the fact that since the vote it has become all too clear how complicated, potentially damaging and divisive this is, then it seems to me that in order to prevent our democracy from being damaged even further than a confirmatory vote is the only way forward.

I am a strong remainer, and my preference is to revoke, but I realise that in order to begin to reach out to those who voted leave across this huge divide then a confirmatory vote is one of the best ways to firstly confirm that we are leaving - essential now that we are all aware of the facts- , and most importantly HOW we leave.

I am sure you are not the first to say such a thing at a time like this Mycat. Hopefully we will never have to find out and this man will disappear back into obscurity.

Urmstongran Mon 13-May-19 21:57:49

I was just thinking the same Mycat only you expressed it so much better!

Hyperbolic nonsense.

Good grief drama queen

evil people with evil intentions

So they want to leave the economic group known as the EU?

I have a box of grips please take one

GracesGranMK3 Mon 13-May-19 21:36:13

So think of the times in the past when someone has tried to assume a leadership position Gabriella, and some have seen them as evil people with evil intentions. If you had lived at that time, wouldn't you have wanted to be one of the people who spoke out against them and tried to show them up for what they were. History sometimes repeats itself and we all have to consider who and what we support or condemn.

GabriellaG54 Mon 13-May-19 21:17:39

I really don't understand why certain remain voters on here pile in to rubbish those of us who want to leave. I certainly have never rubbished anyone's views re staying in the EU or their voting choices so I find it disturbing that some nastiness and barbed comments continue.
Discussion is healthy but some comments are really unworthy of being written by sensible mature (wo)men. There is no respect in many posts which argue against leaving.
It becomes rather like an assassination of characters and is a sad reflection on society when a political decision creates such disharmony and yes, even spiteful comments.
sad

He’s not my cup of tea in the slightest but say it before and again patronising his supporters got us Brexit!

Bridgeit Mon 13-May-19 20:03:31

He does like to play that part though doesn’t he, ‘look everyone I’m one of you ‘
You can fool some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time.

Mycatisahacker Mon 13-May-19 19:53:55

What very patronising and silly remarks

so everyone who drinks beer and likes darts is s farrage fan.

Such arrogance and ignorance.

Jabberwok Mon 13-May-19 19:20:45

You seem to be very well informed about an event that hasn't yet happened Gd!!

MawBroonsback Mon 13-May-19 18:40:51

gringrin Grandad

Grandad1943 Mon 13-May-19 18:38:29

Ahh, Lakeside, that is where they hold the World Darts Championships around Christmas every year, is it not.

Well, I cannot think of a better place for the one man Farage Brexit Party to hold a national really, and better still while the Darts Championship is going on. grin

You would have the floor swilling with beer, all the shouting and balling, all accompanied by the wonderful sound of peanuts crunching under foot.

Now, what better a representation of Farage and his Brexit Party could there be. smile

Jabberwok Mon 13-May-19 18:28:14

Dear God, there are some pathetic comments on here! Surely ladies you can offer something that at least slightly resembles adult conversation?! I can't imagine that GabriellaG can bothered to answer any of you!

crystaltipps Mon 13-May-19 17:54:37

But I didn’t suggest she would be smoking - I intimated there would most likely be a number of smokers outside as the blessed Nige is a fan of smoking.

MawBroonsback Mon 13-May-19 17:40:36

Is suggesting a person smokes (cigarettes) breaching guidelines? If so, how? ???

crystaltipps Mon 13-May-19 17:39:14

I didn’t say you personally would be smoking GG54. I said I bet there will be loads smoking outside- and I bet I’m right. Nige wants to get rid of the smoking ban so I hope you’ll be happy with that - you seem to think he’s going to work miracles. I have actually been to Lakeside and Thurrock more than once - I seem to remember huge adverts for the Sunday Sport girls lap dancing club there- pretty fertile ground for NF.

MawBroonsback Mon 13-May-19 17:39:01

Thurrock Lakeside would be an entirely appropriate place Petra - Nige could address the select gathering in his Estuary English and white stilettos would of course be in order!
(Apologies to Essex Grans, present company entirely excepted??)

GracesGranMK3 Mon 13-May-19 17:38:38

Large propaganda events Gabriella, held every year from 1923 to 1938.

MawBroonsback Mon 13-May-19 17:35:47

Is that level of ignorance (the Nuremberg comment) meant to be funny GabbyG?
<shaking head> Beggars belief.

GracesGranMK3 Mon 13-May-19 17:35:21

Urmstongran, Today 10.46. You could be right but wouldn't the vote then be "revoke" or "continue negotiations"?

GabriellaG54 Mon 13-May-19 17:31:20

* Nuremberg

GabriellaG54 Mon 13-May-19 17:30:47

Sorry...I wasn't at Nuremburg. Was it a darts match?

Bridgeit Mon 13-May-19 17:30:24

Thanks for clarifying

GracesGranMK3 Mon 13-May-19 17:28:25

Back to the OP. Like others, it is not the way I would have wanted to go but more and more I feel that whatever "leave" (or leaves) is agreed by Parliament must be put to the country with the other possible alternative of "remain".

I think too, that if nothing can be agreed by Parliament we must revoke and allow leavers to go off and put an actual plan together.

Gabriella, I am sure the atmosphere will be uplifting; just as it was at Nuremberg. Perhaps yours will become an annual event too.

GabriellaG54 Mon 13-May-19 17:28:00

The remark was to crystaltipps.
