@Mycat on page 1 - I think the crux for some parents is apparently they've lost their right to decide what should b taught to their children. As Gonegirl quotes

Which seems to mean that parents can't withdraw their children. Education law overrides parental rights.
I've heard that as a result of this some parents are opting for home tuition for their children.

some in the LGBTQ radical wing have shown themselves to be mysogynistic and hateful with the Cis woman nonsense and have themselves harassed and threatened women meeting to discuss the problematic self ID and how this impacts on women’s lives. Women are easily pushed aside I don’t think these Muslims will be so easily silenced.

Again I completely support Jess Phillips on this but it’s never going To be as easy as just talking and trying to educate religious zealots. That won’t work.

Mycatisahacker, the middle ground is probably the method of quietly providing the newer generation of children with liberal education while trying to calm fundamentalist parents, who in this country are shouty noisy Muslims.

There are religionists who idolise religious laws, and are unaware of how to interpret those laws with love and understanding.

What a fuss about books when most children nowadays will be in a classroom with other children who have two mummies or two daddies.

Some of the loveliest families I know have same sex parents.

It would be very wrong to give in to this kind of intimidation.

Jess Phillips is a fantastic woman and her constituents are lucky to have her.

However I don’t think this issue will be solved by talking. Those of firm often intolerant faiths don’t do talking over issues like this.

We either capitulate to their feelings or go ahead anyway.

I do believe that children have a right to sex and relationship education. It is difficult when parents disagree. At one time you could withdraw your children from Sex ed, so it was put on the Science curriculum to prevent this is happening.

It is a very sensitive issue and can only be solved through talking. There has been an issue with whipping up a crowd which never helps. Talk can only take place in a calm atmosphere.

It is hard for parents to tolerate any topic taught which is against their moral beliefs.....however children must be made aware of the variety of thought, that is what education is about. No easy answer.

The blocking pavement stratagem is not, apparently, the only one being used in a way that takes it over the peaceful protest line. It sounded to me as if some of the phone calls to "tell" people to keep keep their children at home were more than just informative.

I like Jess Phillips more the more I see of her. She was justifiably upset. The young man, who seems to have decided to become a sort of flying picket, does not seem to want others to be allowed to disagree with his views. Calling JP Islamaphobic for not agreeing with the protest makes me feel he should have had the classes when he was young just as the elderly men I come across on another forums would have hopefully been more tolerant had the had this part of their education. They are both Islamaphobic and homophobic! As far as I can see, in the the case of the young man and these old guys the issue is purely cultural. Growing up knowing that personal views are no excuse for, as JP comment, deciding which legal minority you will treat as equal and which you won't, has to be a good thing.

I really don’t understand your post Kadinsky. There is plenty of criticism of the protesters on all types of media.

This is a difficult one because I can see both sides.
I know one thing though, if it was white Christians protesting they’d be a lot more outrage on social media.

DoesAnyoneKnow, there's no suggestion children of any age are to be taught 'as fact ' that humans can change biological sex. These are primary school children and so far as I understand it, the No Outsider books have been added to the school library. That adds to the diversity of books available and means the teachers in lower school may read one of them during story time.
My 4 year old grandson asked his mummy if two men can dance together, after seeing a photograph of this. Yes she said, like Uncle X and Uncle Y do. Oh , can two girls dance together? Yes they can. Oh, off he went happily question answered. I'm so relieved he wasn't subjected to some kind of nonsense about homosexuality being abhorrent, told that no, two men/women could never 'dance' together. Surely, this kind of age appropriate information is just what the school aims to do.
Homosexuality was illegal when many of us were in our teens. I have friends now in their late 60's and 70's who lived secret lives as a result. Do we really want to return to that kind of horror?

And does you should check your facts as well - what you’ve posted is a very misleading account of the issue - as was Ginny’s post. I never cease to be amazed at posters who think facts don’t matter.

The Drag Queen story came from an event in the US where they read children stories at a library....a purely voluntary event.

An exclusion zone sounds sensible.

The right to remove children from lessons is going to be removed.

I wouldn't want my family taught as fact that humans can change biological sex or that biological sex and childhood are a social construct.

Ginny my understanding is that there were parental protests outside the school. Later some of the books from the No Outsiders programme were read by drag queens at an equality and diversity event put on in a local museum and parents were free obvs to take their children or not. It all looked like fun - better than the average pantomime where children first experience drag queeens usually
