I'm glad I'm not teaching biology.
How long will it be before sex is just a recreational activity and babies come from Amazon?
Sometimes it’s just the small things that press the bruise isn’t it? 😢
Head teacher at Anderton County Primary school has been threatened because the school issuing the Outsider books. Jess Philips is the local MP, she attended today to support the school and was told by one protester that those who support the use of the books were islamophobic. I'm in support of the schools, the books and Jess Philips.

jura the protesters may be protesting on religious grounds, but you cannot deny them that right, as long as they remain peaceful and within the law.
It does seem though that they have crossed that line.
About time ALL religious infuence was left out, or taken out, of our children's education.
I think it’s worrying that these orchestrated protests are spreading throughout the north-west

Possibly Muslim woman are from different countries and different social classes. Crazy idea I know.
maddyone fundamental christians also belief the world was created in 7 days and evolution is a myth, apparently fossils were created by a God to test faith. I hope no-one would expect this to be taught in schools.
Many fundamental Christians believe homosexuality is wrong, and many believe abortion is wrong. I don’t agree with them, although I have some difficulty with late abortion, unless for strong medical reasons.
I far as I understood it, when I worked in a school which had a large Muslim minority, I was given to understand that Muslims don’t have too much of a problem with abortion, but it seemed to be a grey area from my conversations with Muslim women. However, most Muslims do not agree at all with homosexuality, hence the protests outside the school. In some fundamental Muslim countries homosexuality is punished by death, and in fact this recently happened in Soudi Arabia. Thankfully that doesn’t happen, nor will it ever happen in Britain, but none the less I don’t agree that different families should not be taught about in schools and I do not think parents, of whatever religious affiliation, should be allowed to demand the dismissal of a headteacher because she is delivering the curriculum in her school.
Despite what one or two of you clearly think, I am not racist, but I don’t conveniently ignore that which doesn’t fit my view of how things are. I worked closely with Muslims for nearly twenty years, in an inner city primary school, therefore I was able to observe from first hand how different communities behave. I was even involved in home visits before the youngest children started school. Indeed there are many well educated Muslim women in every area of life in Britain, but I know that none the less, there are far more who are neither educated nor active in any life beyond the home. Assimilation is almost nil within these groups, which is seriously worrying. It’s sad that some people refuse to remove their blinkers and look at life as it really is for many Muslim women in this country.
So yes, in answer to someone up thread, I most certainly have interacted with, and become friendly with, and visited the homes of Muslim families. I made a particularly good friendship with one of our bilingual assistants, and I was on very good terms with others. It is possible to have a friendship with someone who is a very different culture than yourself, and that is what happened. But although we were so friendly together, and I visited her home, and my husband gave private lessons to her child, we were unable to progress beyond this, because she was not allowed to visit my home, or socialise with me, except in her own home.
No worries gonegirl
janeainsworth No, you didn't say that. I don't think I expressed myself very well there. Sorry.
I've seen opinionated articulate Muslim women who choose to wear the hijab and I've seen intimidated Geordie women who were worried what their husband would do because they had done something he would disapprove of. You shouldn't judge by appearances or make any assumptions about anyone.
What a load of nonsense. What on earth makes you think Muslim women are treated as second class citizens and somehow this is taught in the family?
You didn’t answer my question Elvive.
That the post is insulting is your point of view. I disagree entirely. Are you saying women should be treated as second class citizens etc etc etc?
No woman should be treated as a second class citizen, no woman should need to dress in an abaya and wear a niquab unless she wants to, no child should be indoctrinated that homosexuality is completely wrong and evil, no child should be taught incorrect facts ie the world is flat, no child or young person should be taught that it is okay to rape people of a different ethnic group, no child or young person should be taught that it’s a requirement of their religion to murder those of a different religion or none
This has got to be one of the most insulting posts ever.
Elive, where did I say ALL Muslims teach their children that it’s okay to rape girls of any ethnicity?
It's your choice to refuse to read links and jump to conclusions that suit a narrative in your mind, if that's your truth then that's for you for whatever reason you have, I wish you well anyway. Your opinion or any names you call me are all your stuff.
Hear hear GracesGran.
I was bought up in a very loving but very strict religious family, I was bullied from aged 5 because I was different, wasn’t allowed to wear trousers, didn’t have a tv etc so I know young children recognise and do bully those whom they have been taught are different.
I was also bought up to be homophobic due to my family faith. Thankfully I wasn’t a bully as I was taught to not hurt people but embarrassingly I continued to be homophobic during my 20’s but thanks to very kind gay colleagues I changed my attitude.
Our sex education at school started at aged 8 and thankfully my parents did not withdraw me from it although I know they considered it. If those sex education classes had included a little bit about respect for people who are different then I might have seen the light a little sooner and been a lot less of a bigoted twenty something.
No one is giving them the right to gay bash ja. They just want to adhere to their religious principal that homosexuality is wrong. And not have their children taught anything other than that. They are not advocating breaking any laws
gonegirl I didn’t say that Muslims believed in ‘gay bashing’, did I?
Gay bashing is not confined to any particular group, religious or otherwise, as far as I know.
When I said that a religious belief should not allow someone to break the law, I was actually thinking of people who unlawfully harass and intimidate women who undergo abortions, and the clinicians who provide them.
As far as I’m aware, Christianity is the faith to which they profess adherence. That doesn’t mean that the vast majority of Christians believe it’s ok to harass and intimidate others.
I think you have the most extreme of views DoesAnyoneknow and they are very unpleasant. You have hijacked most of this thread to indulge your prejudice so I shall not return to post on it again.
It seems to me that Thatcher's homophobic legislation of thirty years ago casts a very long shadow including on Gransnet. I am both saddened and shocked that we still see such thinking.
LGBTQ+ lobbyists, politicians and professionals are pushing so that children are being lead to believe that it's possible to change your actual sex could be harmed by their queer theory ideology in this way.

maddy where does any man who rapes women pick up their attitudes? We don’t know .
so presumably Mr Afsal's parents didn't tell him it was OK to rape white girls.
I’ve heard and seen him before. He’s excellent.
Oh! Now that will be interesting.
Anyone around who swims in the Hampstead Heath ladies' pond?
maddy, google Nazir Afsal.
