Well ?

Eglantine21 Mon 27-May-19 11:59:44

Thank you for replying to my question whitewave.

Sorry for the tardy response. I’ve been tidying my bookshelves!

All my life I have known who to vote for. Now I am at sea......

Blondiescot Mon 27-May-19 11:55:12

North of the Border, I say the sooner we cut ourselves free, the better! It is clear that there is a huge difference in the way Scotland feels compared to the rest of the UK in political terms these days.

Nonnie Mon 27-May-19 11:53:37

Yes, I actually agree with Gabby "The language used shows the calibre of the user." How about we all just ignore those who are constantly nasty as well as those who make stupid comments they cannot back up? Not forgetting the one who apologised in a PM then carried on with the abuse!

Urmstongran Mon 27-May-19 11:22:40

Time for a belly laugh.

Andrew Adonis.

and

Gavin Esler.

The result was a boost for Farage but wasn’t the expected landslide, and shows how fed up people are with the state of play in traditional politics. What it doesn’t show is overwhelming support for one thing or another, and no one should pretend it does. If the Brexit party has been led by Anne Widdecombe and Farage has been nowhere to be seen it wouldn’t have done as well with the male, pale and stale voters, it’s a one man band.

GabriellaG54 Mon 27-May-19 11:10:21

As the results came in, it was mooted that Scotland, whose SNP got an excellent result (well done ??) might make another push for independence on the back of it.
What say you, North of the border?

winterwhite Mon 27-May-19 11:02:06

What happens next? The margin looks similar to 2016 but now we have one new vote Leave party versus a group of established vote Remain parties. Neither has the right to ignore the other.
I hope but without much confidence that the mistakes of 2016 aren't repeated. Different people voting Leave wanted different things. Different people voting Remain had different reasons. Looking further into all these reasons seems the obvious way to break the impasse, but what hope of that when the two largest parties at Westminster are intent only on rebuilding their own support?
Perhaps we could let the newly elected and much changed European Parliament sit for a couple of years? It was probably voter indolence that led to all those Ukip MEPs last time, with their negative stance and 0 contribution.

GabriellaG54 Mon 27-May-19 10:52:25

The language used shows the calibre of the user.

Mycatisahacker Mon 27-May-19 10:52:13

Let’s hope labours woes see the end of dithering disaster Corbyn.

GillT57 Mon 27-May-19 10:49:02

WWMk2. That just about sums it up. I also think that despite all his bluster and trumpeting ( in his smart well fitted suit paid for by GG54 generous donation) that Farage knows he will not be able to duplicate this 'success' in a GE. He will never be able to screen and interview that many candidates. The handful he gathered up to achieve the additional 4 seats last night are quite a cross section of capabilities and character. And yes, all you Faragistas, before you point out that he doesn't do all the interviews himself, well we all know quite well what happened to UKIP when Farage left.

GracesGranMK3

So sorry you feel bitter that we did so well but better luck next time. You tried.
What you think hold no interest for me and I suppose that you're a youthful 39yr old who really shouldn't be needing conversation with a 'vicious old woman'.
You appear to follow the reasoning of being uber critical when someone points out a spelling mistake then following it up with exactly the same action that you so dislike. A case of two wrongs making a right...eh?
Nowt so queer as folk.
BTW...Grandad1943 has a keyboard, unless, of course, you're his appointed mouthpiece.
Yawn...now do other stuff. Your posts are boring.

EllanVannin Mon 27-May-19 10:44:02

Watch Labour do an " about turn " to appease their voters in the next GE ! Tactical.

Riverwalk Mon 27-May-19 10:43:47

The sight and sound of Ann Widdecombe is enough to spoil my day! But delighted to see Tommy Robinson lose his deposit and wasn't brave enough to stay for the end of the count - coward.

Corbyn got a much-deserved kick up the bum.

Anniebach Mon 27-May-19 10:39:33

Parliament isn’t resisting taking the whole thing back to the people, .labour and conservatives are.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 27-May-19 10:36:23

Alistair Campbell making sense.

“Democracy is gone totally skewed in this country, when we have 100,000 mainly elderly people, who probably voted for the BP will now choose the next PM. And yet parliament is resisting taking the whole thing back to the people to see what they think”

GillT57 Mon 27-May-19 10:35:38

I am delighted that Libdems did so well. They were the only party (apart from Farage et al) who had an honest manifesto, no ifs no buts. Labour and Tory parties got the kicking they deserve but it is unlikely that either of them will learn anything from it. Was interesting to hear Alistair Campbell say he had voted LibDem and Emily Thornberry could barely hide her fury with Corbyn. As for that woman who was ex UKIP, so much for loyalty eh? Couldn't wait to distance herself from them. The one thing that did disappoint me though was the ghastly Widdecombe getting a seat in EU.

trisher Mon 27-May-19 10:32:14

All that this election hs shown is that the country is as divided as ever it has been. The Brexiteers claim they won and want a no-deal Brexit, the Remain parties did well and want another referendum. So the result is just another indication that this argument will continue.

Blondiescot Mon 27-May-19 10:31:53

Stop the world, I want to get off! At least we here in Scotland saw sense...

GillT57 Mon 27-May-19 10:29:06

Funny how those who claimed that 80% of us endorsed Brexit in the silly election called by May are the first to cry foul when experts like Sir John Curtice show that in fact those parties with a sole manifesto of Remain garnered the highest number of votes.

Witzend Mon 27-May-19 10:28:27

lemongrove, what about all the disaffected Con and Lab voters, , who have quite obviously decamped to LD and Greens?
It's very obvious in my own area - always a toss up between Con/LD, where the LD and Green votes have shot up at the Con expense, but particularly the LD.
So I don't know why so many people are saying or assuming that disaffected Cons have largely voted Brexit.

On the opposite side, huge swathes of London that were always staunchly Labour have turned very decisively to the LDs.

Waterloosunset Mon 27-May-19 10:18:03

Oh crystaltipps brilliant, just brilliant ?

Mycatisahacker Mon 27-May-19 10:16:33

Wonder how long Corbyn will last now.

FarNorth Mon 27-May-19 10:05:29

if you played the English game
By all means do that - in England.

'the Scottish National party, boosted by an unambiguously pro-remain message from Nicola Sturgeon, secured a record three seats and its highest-ever European parliament vote at 38%.'

www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/may/27/labour-wiped-out-in-scotland-amid-snp-surge

Whitewavemark2 Mon 27-May-19 09:45:49

eglatine I have a Rose by that name?

I didn’t see Curtis so can’t say, but it is easy to show that remainer parties attracted more votes than the BP that doesn’t include either the labour or Tory vote.

crystaltipps Mon 27-May-19 09:41:29

I would hardly say Farage “smashed it”, yes got the most seats but 70% did not vote for the odious little twat.
