This is an official state visit by the President of the United States. Like it or lump it, he is a guest of the UK, and as such should be shown every courtesy. I think it was very rude of Corbyn and Cable not to attend the dinner hosted by the Queen tonight. You don't have to like the man, but you should respect his position.
And now we hear that Corbyn will be joining the protest of anti-Trump supporters tomorrow. The man is a disgrace, with no diplomatic sensibility whatsoever. God help our foreign relationships if he ever became Prime Minster!
And I'm shocked at the power of Bercow, the Speaker of the House. He did not invite Trump to speak to Parliament. Yet Abama - and many American Presidents before him - were invited ...? A very public rebuff! Now I'm not very politically-savvy, but it seems to me that the Speaker is more powerful than the Prime Minister!
Whatever we all think of Donald Trump, his visit should be treated with politeness and dignity, as befits his position (and ours).
And we should remember that we need America to be on our side (as they always have been).
I do hope that tomorrow's protests will be minimal - and that someone will stab a knife in that horrendous balloon!
