"As his jumbo jet came into Stansted, Mr Trump took to social media and said: 'Sadiq Khan, who by all accounts has done a terrible job as Mayor of London, has been foolishly 'nasty' to the visiting President of the United States, by far the most important ally of the United Kingdom. He is a stone cold loser who should focus on crime in London, not me'.

He added: 'Khan reminds me very much of our very dumb and incompetent Mayor of NYC, de Blasio, who has also done a terrible job - only half his height."

How could he say that?! Especially when just entering the UK!

Is he bonkers? That's just not normal.

I think the nearest thing we have to Spitting I mage is The Last Leg; A real lack of satirical programmes these day.

Well, I've just been watching the Buck House bit on catch-up.

I think he's behaving very well. The Queen looked genuinely happy to greet them both. Camilla looked very nice in a lovely white dress. He chatted to the soldiers when he was inspecting them.

All seems to be going very well.

The consensus of opinion amongst the commentators seemed to be that Trump will always be Trump, but he might actually be an ok guy.

He does make me laugh I have to say. He doesn’t give a s**t what he says and Khan should just shut up quite honestly.

….computer playing up !

merlotgran Mon 03-Jun-19 13:30:45

At times like this I really miss 'Spitting Image!'

Labaik Mon 03-Jun-19 13:28:50

This was from a time when the thought of Trump being president was just a joke....

Luckygirl Mon 03-Jun-19 13:28:08

The queen mustered her warm smile - she must be choking! What a job!

What is with Trump and his salutes?
A renowned draft dodger he does not qualify as any sort of veteran nor does he wear uniform.
So I looked it up

A provision of the 2009 Defense Authorization Act changed federal law to allow U.S. veterans and military personnel not in uniform to render the military hand-salute when the national anthem is played
This change adds to a provision which was passed in the 2008 Defense Bill, which authorized veterans and military personnel in civilian clothes to render the military salute during the raising, lowering or passing of the flag
Traditionally, veterans’ service organizations rendered the hand-salute during the national anthem and at events involving the national flag while wearing their organization’s headgear, although this wasn't actually spelled out in federal law
So confusedconfused

So Trump can say what he likes, but when it’s Sadiq Khan he’s got to be respectful. Talk about a load of hypocrites.

Elvive Mon 03-Jun-19 13:09:27

Griselda who is the " they" in your post please?

Thanks for the explanation re ballon.

" stands up for".....in what way?

Firecracker123 Mon 03-Jun-19 12:47:41

He also said I look forward to being a great friend to the United Kingdom and am very much looking forward to my visit.
I like Donald Trump he stands up for America and has fulfilled nearly all his election promises unlike our corrupt policitians who are in Parliament at the moment.

Gonegirl Mon 03-Jun-19 12:41:26

this one

Caledonai14 Mon 03-Jun-19 12:41:14

Gonegirl Mon 03-Jun-19 12:39:24

That huge balloon protestors have got (had it last visit as well), showing Trump as a baby in a nappy.

sodapop Mon 03-Jun-19 12:38:34

There is an inflatable of Donald Trump in London, not flattering Elvive

Elvive Mon 03-Jun-19 12:34:45

What is a ballon please?

Nandalot Mon 03-Jun-19 12:33:12

There is a difference between the two in their battle of words. Khan has confined himself to attacking Trump’s policies whilst Trump has resorted to playground insults about a man’s height.

Callistemon Mon 03-Jun-19 12:32:03

Me neither

It's childish

Gonegirl Mon 03-Jun-19 12:30:39

I don't like the balloon. That is nasty.

Griselda Mon 03-Jun-19 12:29:15

I wonder if Khan would be so forthright if it were the President of some other country (take your pick) was arriving. I would want to say something about the way they treat women, or Christians or any other group that he didn't like. I wonder if he would ?

Elvive Mon 03-Jun-19 12:25:49

Who is a man after your own heart EV? One of those mentioned by Maw or Trump?

Callistemon Mon 03-Jun-19 12:25:21

Nothing beats that stupid ballon you all are so clearly in favour of.
You should never generalise, abbey

all is not true.

This has become a recurring theme, this admiration for " telling it as it is" as an antidote to " political correctness gone mad"

What this usually boils down to is narrow minded bigotry if you scratch the very thin surface.

Callistemon Mon 03-Jun-19 12:24:04

Caledonail4 grin
they are hastily working out a damage limitation exercise …..

EllanVannin Mon 03-Jun-19 12:22:39

A man after my own heart ! He's clever too in more ways than one.

Millie, I laughed for ages after he appeared to lose the Queen behind him. It was like a comedy.
