69.4 % were postal votes. I don't know if that's high or not on the national average.

You can be pretty sure that the brexit voters were reading the Daily Mail, Express, Telgraph or Sun, all owned by billionaires, but not "elites" (according to liar Farage) who do certainly not have this country's best interests at heart. If in doubt check it out.

Yes callistemon. Peterborough voted 61% leave in the referendum so it was i suppose unlikely voters would go for remain parties. Still delighted that Brexit Ltd got beaten though.

GillT57 I agree although didn't Peterborough vote brexit so that would have been a very surprising result.

UKIP had members who were entitled to vote. That is normal in a democratic party. Unfortunately the members did not always vote the way their leader, liar Farage, wanted them to vote, so he jumped ship and has now set up the "brexit party" which is not a democratic party but a private company where "supporters" sign up, pay £25 and have no say in anything.

These fools give their money to liar Farage but can't decide on the policies, the leadership, or the candidates of this so-called party.

I have never, ever, suggested that all those who voted leave in 2016 are stupid but how stupid would you have to be to sign up to that?

Although I am delighted and relieved that Brexit Ltd did not win thePeterborough by election I am also displeased that Labour won, I would have been happier if the LibDem or Green party had won Corbyn and the senior team are conveniently failing to mention that the reason for the by election in the first place was the criminal behaviour and conviction of their previous incumbent. It would have been more appropriate to acknowledge the win,regret the reason for the by election and gracefully move on. There was no need for the victory speech.

Well as BP has exactly same leader and single policy as UKIP and the same voters it’s just the lite version of the same thing. Farage dumped UKIP when some of the extremists members began infighting and tweeting unsavoury messages so by forming UKIP2 he could take unilateral control and by having no members and “donations” he could decide how to spend the dosh. However, if he wants to challenge every seat in the next election he’ll have to find a few half decent candidates. The one in Peterborough seemed a nice but dim type who claimed the EU told us what we had to teach in schools and what exams children had to take. He seemed genuinely surprised when he was told that education is domestic policy and nothing to do with the EU.

Has anyone else seen the photo of Tariq Mahmood standing by the count at the Peterborough by election?
He was jailed in 2008 for vote rigging ( for labour) in the Peterborough council elections. At the time he was a local Labour secretary.

I was very disappointed that the Brexit Party didn't win the Peterborough seat. However, it's called democracy so I WON'T be whining that the people of that city didn't know what they were voting for, neither will I be calling for a second people's vote or saying they must have been stupid to have voted in a Labour candidate, especially one who had made anti-Semitic remarks, I shall just accept that my preferred candidate lost and accept the result!

Because after 3 years of waiting for progress over Brexit the BP promise to deliver it. Finally! Support for NF is the beginning.

But I happily voted for the Brexit Party in the EU elections.

Brexit Party is not really a “new” party is it? It’s just UKIP Mark 2 - same policy, same leader, same voters.

I agree that the word fascist is bandied about and overused but can j point out (again) that not all of us who consider Brexit to be a potential economic and social catastrophe are rabid hate filled lefties. Quite the opposite in my case. My understanding and grasp of economics lead me to vote remain, not my political beliefs.
