has anyone seen the news of the lesbian couple goaded by young men to kiss for their entertainment and then attacked because they wouldn't "perform" ? What the hell is going on down south with racist attacks and this ....surely the days of gay people having to hide what they are should be long gone .What ARE these young men being taught or watching that makes them behave in such an appalling way?

FarNorth Wed 12-Jun-19 11:02:17

yggdrasil I hope that was sarcasm.

SueDonim Mon 10-Jun-19 15:15:58

How distasteful to use the dreadful attack on these poor women to make a thinly-veiled racist attack on people 'down south'. No word of sympathy for the victims, just an opportunity to virtue-signal. If Scotland is indeed so virtuous with regard to homophobia why was it necessary for the Scot Govt to launch a campaign against homophobia recently?

Maybe that shows up the nationalists for what they really are.

These were teens still at school. And obviously they hadn't received the Relationship education that all kids should be going to get now.

Paddyann I am so angry at your post. I assume to write "What the hell is going on down south with racist attacks and this" means you live in the north. I am just sick of people referring to down south it is all going bad; it's ridiculous and small minded. Having lived up and down the country I know nasty stuff can happen anywhere and it does. Paddyann you certainly need get out and about more and visit the remainder of the UK. Incidentally most of the population live in the southern part of the country, I sure they would leave if it was THAT bad. angryangryangry

notanan2 Mon 10-Jun-19 01:20:27

They were alone on the top deck which could just as easily happen on a scottish bus hmm

NotSpaghetti Sun 09-Jun-19 23:48:03

Hello coconut - I’m sorry, I still don’t understand the exacerbated thing - I don’t see how the Internet can have made the attacks on people, or porn, or intolerance worse.

Jannicans Sun 09-Jun-19 20:40:28

Boys need to be taught respect and to have boundaries from a young age. I seems nowadays they have no limits.

KatyK Sun 09-Jun-19 17:45:43

It was sickening.

petra Sun 09-Jun-19 17:44:03

GrauntyHelen
My OH would have gone further than a bit of verbal. He would have physically thrown them off the bus.
Not long ago we were at an open mike night. A young girl was reading some prose. A nasty young scrote thought it was funny. He wasn't laughing when my OH got him outside.

Coconut Sun 09-Jun-19 17:39:07

Notspaghetti .... maybe I didn’t word that as I meant it ... the internet has exacerbated Porn, intolerance, etc I wasn’t referring to this incident so don’t get your pasta strands in a twist !

GrauntyHelen Sun 09-Jun-19 17:28:02

Im in your "wee parochial bubble " with you Paddyann and don't think this would have been allowed to escalate on a Scottish bus not least because some other passenger would have waded in no doubt shouting "haw pipe doon ya wee f@~#)*&^ " and reassured the two women "you're aw right hen"

TerriBull Sun 09-Jun-19 16:07:53

Sickened and appalled by it, seeing those poor girls so bloodied made my blood boil, I think my husband and sons were even more upset possibly because they were women and were staggered that they should be picked on in such a way. Apropos of the attack I believe there were some vile comments on Twitter. I'd like to think the shits the nasty people that did this will get the harsh punishment they deserve, but they won't angry

For God's sake don't make it about "what's going on down south" I know you live in your own parochial bubble Paddyann where everything is fine and dandy, north of the border, just the odd bit of vicious sectarianism from time to time, but hey why don't you just come out and say it "English ergo nasty, nasty people all suffering from delusional colonialism as opposed to Scottish people who are all lovely, kind and ever so inclusive, unless of course you happen to be English"

IT COULD HAVE HAPPENED ANYWHERE!

Jishere Sun 09-Jun-19 15:47:21

I think Grandma70 you have taken what I have wrote out of context.
Firstly, there is a big lack of respect. Secondly, when dangerous people are caught why should they still.have rights?
My brother lost his best friend many years back on new years eve when he was stabbed. The murderer got a few years!! This country needs to toughen up and impose proper justice.

GreenGran78 Sun 09-Jun-19 14:51:14

It has always been a sad fact of life that many young men who are well-behaved seem to change when in a group. Wanting to appear to be ‘one of the lads’ has them joining in, when their consciences are telling them not to. Peer-pressure often has a lot to answer for.
I don’t know what the solution is.

Pat1949 Sun 09-Jun-19 13:59:39

No more a southern problem than a problem which could happen in any part the UK. It's a matter of whether it gets picked up be the media. Absolutely disgusting, it looks to me like pack mentality. I only hope the perpetrators get what they deserve and not just a slap on the wrist.

Tweedle24 Sun 09-Jun-19 13:40:33

I agree with Rosina. The population has increased and news travels faster and further.
Unfortunately, I cannot remember the source but, I have read a complaint about the lack of respect, good manners etc. made by, either an ancient Greek or Roman. I am sure there is a gran on here who can direct us to it.

jura2 Sun 09-Jun-19 13:33:04

Coconut ' The internet I feel has exacerbated this,' ...

what an incredible comment sad - I wonder what their mothers would feel like if they read this sad sad

Grandma70s Sun 09-Jun-19 13:30:18

Good heavens, Jishere, I hope we are still too civilised a country to take away people’s human rights! We are (mostly) not Nazis.

These louts should certainly be punished, of course, and we need to improve education and show less violence on media. A more equal society would help, but how we achieve that I can’t think.

Jishere Sun 09-Jun-19 12:29:26

We deffo hear news quicker these days - so really there is no need to buy a paper! But no I think years ago we had the gangsters who in there own circle were violent but still had respect for elderly, etc,...
A lot of knife crime is gang related but seems to be spilling out because more youngster are carrying for protection.

Rosina Sun 09-Jun-19 11:29:40

I also worry about the seeming upsurge in violence, particularly knife crime, but you think people are very much worse than they were, or is the increase in violence in part due to a larger population, and the fact that everything is reported every hour on the hour and there is no escape? The police tell us that there has been an increase in knife crime, but some weeks ago it was reported that since the much maligned 'stop and search ' has been stepped up again the incidents have fallen. We do really need to get tough with people who think it is ok to attack strangers simply because they are there, or they are perceived to be 'different'. Many parents seem to feel, as others have said, that it is the responsibility of the school, the police, the local community - anyone but them - to instil the right behaviour in the child.

Jishere Sun 09-Jun-19 11:18:50

Well unfortunately we are living in a time where respect has gone.
I see it every day on my way to work with commuters - grown people putting there shoes on the seat. And with all these devices everyone is looking down on their phones or speaking loudly into them. I have been picked on twice because of a slight disability I have, luckily I held my own.

What matters is the 'self' and here we have a lot of knife crime and youngsters are running scared in case they are next. I even watched a program where a Dad was blaming his community regarding his son misbehaviour. Wake up if the community is that bad move!!! take some responsiblity!!

These thugs on the bus were spoiling for a fight. But until something is done - bring back national service or send them somewhere where there they have to do hard labour - they will do it again !!!

Every day I read how soft our punishments are in this country and how prisoners have rights. This country is a mess!! In lots of ways this country needs disciple and real believe that if you are arrested for a serious crime and found guilty then your human rights and any luxuries ar gone. Instead of focusing on reform focus on where respect should lie - with the victim/s.

NotSpaghetti Sun 09-Jun-19 11:11:11

I don’t think the internet has exacerbated this incident Coconut - it has reported it pretty fully it seems but it can’t be responsible for exacerbating.

whywhywhy Sun 09-Jun-19 11:02:37

I truly think this country is heading back to the caveman days! It is so worrying as my youngest son is gay and I worry every day about him. It is supposed to be 2019! When I saw these two girls bloodied faces on the TV I could have been sick. I hope them lads come to their senses but I doubt it.

jura2 Sun 09-Jun-19 10:57:23

Just appalling and sad. Was disgusted.

And at the same time when there is talk all over the place about 'straight pride parades' - after the Boston one - organised and attended by the very 'type' of men who perpetrated this horrible attack.

FarNorth Sun 09-Jun-19 10:52:53
