As far as I can see not one of the contenders has a clear plan with regard to Brexit.

Without a plan we can’t move on.

Is there anyone on here who does have a casting vote? I seem to remember someone a few days ago mentioning membership but I can't remember who it was erased from my mind, anyone bold enough to admit they have a vote and would like to share their views on the two fine upstanding candidates?

Luckygirl Thu 20-Jun-19 19:22:57

How I agree Iam - I was about to post the same thing. The two candidates are equally ghastly, but at least they are not Gove.

A fellow singer yesterday was talking about this race and I expressed a negative view on the whole thing. She said, but you have the choice to put your cross in the box - it took me a few moments to realise that she actually thought I was a member of the Tory party..........what?! I put her right!! I was appalled!

By the way, well done EllanVanninfor having the courage to changing your political stance having voted Conservative all your life.

BTW, I love the song, so sad

I haven’t read all the comments but I wanted to put in my two pence worth.
If that’s the best the Tories have to offer, God help us!

We will have a minority government, with an unelected leader!

How can anyone think this is acceptable in a so-called democracy?

Like many others (non Tory voters), I feel totally disenfranchised and very cross that a minority may take us out of the EU without due process!

Everyone complained when Gordon Brown was unelected and that was a majority’s government.

I believe it’s about time we had a written constitution and PR. We may then get consensus politics rather than this shambles that calls itself a government.

I’d prefer to have a house with all political shades represented. Maybe then, more people would be inclined to vote in the first place and we wouldn’t be in this shocking mess.

I’m currently ashamed to be called either British or English.

I feel so cross and concerned that this pickle seems never ending and currently no light at the end of the tunnel!

Rant over.

Max Hastings is himself a committed Conservative, a former editor of the Torygraph and worked with BJ for ten years. I think his opinion should carry some weight.

Iam64 Thu 20-Jun-19 19:03:45

Yes - the only positive is that the awful Gove is out.

Callistemon Thu 20-Jun-19 18:54:42

varian I think that Max Hastings' view of BJ has been posted on threads a couple of times, as a link and in full.

It was in the Daily Mail, I believe, if anyone can bear to look online.

One good thing is that the ventriloquist’s dummy is out of the race.

varian Thu 20-Jun-19 18:06:54

It's Hunt and Johnson

Ben Fogle
@Benfogle
Can we make sure that #BBCOurNextPM is never shown to anyone overseas, ever. Can we lock the tapes away. Can we just keep it to ourselves. Embarrassing family secrets and all that.

I have just listened to Max Hastings on Radio 4. He employed Boris Johnson as a journalist for ten years and his verdict on his character is utterly damning. Go to BBC i-player Radio 4 at around 17.40 - 17.45 .

You can only take part in the Conservative party vote if you’ve been a member for a minimum of three months.

Aaron Banks has been running a campaign for a long time to encourage Breixters to join the tory party and work for the deselection of Remainer MPs. That's what happened to Dominic Grieve

Matthew Bezzant, a local councillor who served as deputy chair of the BCCA in charge of membership and finance before resigning after last Friday’s vote, said: “Over 200 new members joined BCCA over the last few months, which coincided with the Leave.EU campaign encouraging their activists to join the party in order to deselect Dominic Grieve.

Lazigirl Thu 20-Jun-19 16:41:15

I hadn't seen that WW but it's truly horrific.

Lazigirl Thu 20-Jun-19 16:39:19

It's a sign of the desperation of the Tory party that BJ has reached the top of the heap, but it's a poisoned chalice and will do for BJ as it did for May. The Labour Party couldn't hope for a better opposition leader grin. I think it's funny when his supporters are trying so hard to justify their choice and point out his qualities to various interviewers.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 20-Jun-19 16:32:42

I know Johnson is a racist, homophobic, misogynist, but for me, the most disgusting comment was that the Libyan coastal town of Sirte could be turned into a luxury resort once the dead bodies were removed.

EllanVannin Thu 20-Jun-19 16:23:24

I'll be voting Labour in the next GE Urmstongran.

Urmstongran Thu 20-Jun-19 16:19:05

You can only take part in the Conservative party vote if you’ve been a member for a minimum of three months.

EllanVannin Thu 20-Jun-19 16:17:48

I can only hope that things go t*ts up whoever wins the leadership and a GE will be imminent in which Corbyn wins and puts paid to this excuse known as austerity. After having voted Conservative all my life there's no way that I'd help a party who looks after the rich and deprives the poor.

varian Thu 20-Jun-19 16:05:47

I can't remember who, but I think I saw a post from one GNetter who used to be UKIP but seems to have joined the Tories intending to vote for Boris Johnson.

jura2 Thu 20-Jun-19 16:03:49

Just wondering- is there really anyone on GN, anyone at all, who could, hand on heart and without hesitation - rejoice at the idea that Boris will probably PM soon.

Honestly, truly?!?

crystaltipps Thu 20-Jun-19 16:01:16

This double elimination day makes it more and more like a reality show.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 20-Jun-19 15:52:16

Twitter

Britain is a country where a new Prime Minister will be chosen by 0.3% of the electorate, to form a government that doesn’t have a majority, in a party that is at 20% in the polls, to try and deliver something that the majority of the country does not want.

vena11 Thu 20-Jun-19 15:14:49

I wish it would all go away. fed up with all of it.

GillT57 Thu 20-Jun-19 15:09:54

well, now that Javid is out of the race, I hope that he starts stirring it up about why he, as Home Secretary wasn't invited to the Banquet with Trump. I have assumed he has made little of it to avoid accusations of the race card during the party leadership race. I know we do not know the details, but from here it looks like a massive snub.
