Preparing for No Deal

Well it seems that this is firmly back on the table, which will thrill some and horrify others.

What does no deal mean though?

It means leaving on the 31 October and beginning at ground zero. We will immediately enter WTO rules in all our trading activities throughout the world which means we will have to comply with our WTO schedule listing the tariffs with which we must comply.
We have said that we wouldn’t charge tariffs on most goods coming from the EU, but I am unclear how we could apply that rule to just the EU as surely we must comply with the most favoured nation, which means we must apply the same standards to every country?
However, our businesses who export will have tariffs imposed on their products making them less competitive than other businesses who trade under various trade agreements. Many farmers are expected to go out of business and where possible other businesses will move to the EU. We are seeing this process already.
The EU will of course immediately set up checks at the border.

Hope you’ve got your Union Jack shorts on and your egg n chips.

Those who think no deal is “job done”- how naive can you get? That will only be the start.

Urmstongran since “TOWIE” Marbella “Marbs” has gone downmarket

Enjoy the sun and sangria ??☀️

Urmstongran Thu 13-Jun-19 18:41:56

It’s Malaga. Not Marbella (couldn’t afford that). I dint say I was going for a beer.

Fake news!

Pass the suntan lotion please...

gg54 it is none of your business what elvive did or didn’t do. But what is your business is to ensure that the rise in homelessness , poverty and mortality is reversed by ensuring that we have government policies that do just that.

If you don’t feel it is your business then I suggest you stop making spurious comments in these threads.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 13-Jun-19 18:30:47

Since when is “carrying on as normal” been deemed smug.

We all have a life and should get on and live it.

Worrying over something that is out of our control seems pointless??

When I can vote I shall.

GabriellaG54 Thu 13-Jun-19 18:27:10

Elvive
Re your last comment.
Aren't people allowed to enjoy life or must we all cry and wear sackcloth and ashes in order to sympathise with those who are ' bricking it'?
What good would that do?
The guy you saw in the upmarket area, dirty, haunted etc?
Did you take him home for a good meal, give him clothes and advice on homeless shelters or even pay for a room at the YMCA?

The majority of the public reject any kind of brexit.

The minority of the public that still support brexit are divided between deal brexit and no-deal brexit .

These dangerous no-dealers should not be allowed to ruin the futures of our children and grandchildren.

If you are a member of the Conservative party and you actually care about your children and grandchildren, let alone other children and grandchildren, please vote for a leader who will never allow a disastrous no-deal brexit.

When are we going to get anyone in the media or any Tory or Labour politicians to recognise the fact that most British people want to REMAIN in the EU and this has been the case for a very long time?

I'm sorry but saying things like " it's hot here in Marbella and I'm off for a beer" sounds rather smug. Thousands of people are basically bricking it and many more on the breadline.

I saw a guy today in an upmarket area, a haunted look in his eye, skinny, dirty. People stepping over him.

varian Thu 13-Jun-19 18:08:05

How could anyone with a conscience feel smug about the fact that their vote to leave has caused such a waste of time and money and such dreadful damage to our society, our economy and our international reputation?:

These people should be hanging their heads in shame, apologising profusely and telling us they now support revoking Article 50 asap so we can return to sanity.

Urmstongran Thu 13-Jun-19 18:05:55

I bet they can find someone in Brussels to negotiate!

If not .... we Leave.

Job done.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 13-Jun-19 18:03:46

Sorry to advise but the Brussels negotiating team has been disbanded. Nothing left to negotiate.

Labaik Thu 13-Jun-19 17:57:52

If it wasn't on the table till now why have there been so many preparations for a no deal Brexit [and money being spent that could have gone to the nhs]. And who are these amazing new negotiators? I thought the original negotiators were the ones who said it would be one of the easiest trade deals in human history?

Urmstongran Thu 13-Jun-19 17:48:33

I have never been nasty. Not once.

A little smug now perhaps but that is only because after 3 long years, our negotiators for Brexit have now discovered their backbones! That and the fact that No Deal is back on the table after howls of protest.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 13-Jun-19 17:01:18

If we can’t do a deal with the EU we will be considered a walk over world wide.

Davidhs Thu 13-Jun-19 16:52:00

In the EU scale of things £ 39bn is small change but will be taken into account during any trade deals. If it’s withheld don’t expect trade talks to be favorable, all the negotiations have to be held in a spirit of good will, we are going to be the junior partner in these talks and have to fit in with their rules.
Deal or no deal that’s the way it will be .

crystaltipps Thu 13-Jun-19 16:11:21

We’ll already have spent this £39 billion on the Brexit turd. There won’t be anything left over.

MaizieD Thu 13-Jun-19 16:07:10

Of course, if we didn't pay the £39 billion one tiny, tiny spark of consolation for becoming international pariahs would be that Nigel bloody Farage wouldn't get his EU pension.

Firecracker123 Thu 13-Jun-19 16:06:03

Well just imagine what £39 billion could pay for.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 13-Jun-19 13:51:26

A tweet from Dr Rachel Clarke Oxford
As
@BorisJohnson
bigs up No Deal Brexit, never forget what the £1.9 billion already spent could buy:

?380k hip replacements
?41k nurses
?41k paramedics
?35k doctors
?200 CT scanners
?1000 MRI scanners
?6 entire NHS hospitals

What a grotesque waste of taxpayers' money.

Elvive Thu 13-Jun-19 13:48:49

UG, I honestly could weep at the nastiness, division and smugness expressed by yourself and some others. Genuinely it is beyond me, this pervasive attitude of " I'm alright Jack" It's desperately sad and I don't think many on either " side" had any idea things would pan out like this.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 13-Jun-19 12:23:30

The half built infrastructure? If I was depending on flood defences I wouldn’t be happy

Urmstongran Thu 13-Jun-19 12:13:35

I will come round and kiss your feet Whitewavemark2 and beg for your forgiveness.

Regarding withholding the £39 billion didn’t the Lords say we don’t legally have to pay it?

We will, I’m sure but Boris will ensure it’s tied to a better deal this time around.

Gonegirl Thu 13-Jun-19 12:09:42

All this should have been made clear to the general population before the referendum. It's all so daft.
