Well, there's 10 left in the race to be our next Prime Minister and voting starts tomorrow.

Who would you LIKE to be the next leader of the Tory party?

And who would you BET on?

GillT57 Thu 13-Jun-19 15:12:01

anniel thank you for your irrelevant and incorrect comment. I am not a 'leftie" I am a citizen concerned that my vote is being ignored, that my future is based on decisions made by ill informed prejudiced people like you.

Callistemon Thu 13-Jun-19 15:09:14

Don't like Boris
Don't like Jeremy either

Where does that put me?

GillT57 Thu 13-Jun-19 15:09:03

peardrop50 ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha........Boris is a man of integrity and compassion.......tell that to his friends, you know the ones whose 30 year old daughter is his mistress. Jesus wept.

Rory Stewart is currently seventh of the seven left in. There were seventy-odd votes between Boris and runner-up Jeremy Hunt, Gove running third, Javid and Raab quite low. But this is only the first round.
I didn't enthuse over Rory Stewart because as soon as I heard he was yet another Old Etonian, I remembered Cameron, Osborne and, yes! Boris, in their Bullingdon Club group photo.
Doubtless Stewart was bound for Sandhurst after Eton though.
Nothing against public school - I was one such member myself. But it is the traditional 'old-boys (Bullingdon-type) network' that is so rampant in the remnants of Tory MPs. Rees-Mogg another and so many more.
Whatever we may have thought of John Major, I think there was a lot to admire, apart from the Edwina problem.

Callistemon Thu 13-Jun-19 15:06:48

I always thought that Max Hastings talked a lot of sense, Luckygirl!

However, sorry, but I cannot say the same for Polly Toynbee - what was it HM said about Princess Michael of Kent? - "She's far too grand for the likes of us" grin

Elvive Thu 13-Jun-19 15:05:48

Don't like Boris.....equals love Corbyn/Marxism

God it's pathetic.

Anniel Thu 13-Jun-19 15:02:35

I am interested to see so many lefties in this group. it probably means most of you are younger than 75. I am one of the awful members of the Tory party and will be voting for one of the candidates. I am not certain who I will vote for until the end. I am amazed that hating the tories, which party is fit to govern. As intelligent, thinking women i am surprised that people would vote for Jeremy Corbyn to be PM. So back at you Tory haters.

Peardrop50 Thu 13-Jun-19 15:02:20

Boris has the intellectual capacity to understand all the implications of Brexit. He is a man of compassion and strength in politics which is all that should matter. I look forward to taking back our sovereignty with a colourful and articulate leader to regain the respect of the world. Not ducking under the parapet but standing by my convictions, bring it on.

Grany Thu 13-Jun-19 14:58:06

maddyone.

The state of this country after
after nearly 10 years of Tory rule which Polly Toynbee wrote about is in this instance spot on every word entirely true.

Born out by facts that can't be denied

123coco Thu 13-Jun-19 14:56:58

Just watch Years and Years on BBC. a near future for the country I fear. Brilliant but terrifying and all to relevant

helenmabr Thu 13-Jun-19 14:48:47

Dear God, Boris Johnson!!! No no no no no no!!! Please please please please please! Don’t let that liar and cheating buffoon win!

Boosgran Thu 13-Jun-19 14:47:19

Agree Urmstongran ?

nightswimmer Thu 13-Jun-19 14:47:05

Rory possibly as long as its not *unt

narrowboatnan Thu 13-Jun-19 14:46:43

Boris Johnson in 2007, wrote about the "arrogance" and "contempt" of a party leader such as Gordon Brown stepping into the prime minister's shoes without a general election.

maddyone Thu 13-Jun-19 14:43:27

Grany

I don’t like Polly Toynbee at all, and I wouldn’t believe a word that comes out if her mouth.

Luckygirl Thu 13-Jun-19 14:43:16

It did!

Luckygirl Thu 13-Jun-19 14:42:52

Not sure if this image will work....

Rowantree Thu 13-Jun-19 14:40:05

Tillybelle well, quite!
He's just been after that top job for a long time now - think we all are aware of that.

His entrails (note, correct spelling this time) will be first to be eviscerated and boiled after the Revolution....

GillT57 Thu 13-Jun-19 14:40:04

quizqueen maybe they are finding it tricky to get Brexit through because a few mps do realise that a substantial percentage of the electorate did not vote for it. Those of us who voted remain are also entitled to representation you know.

leeds22 Thu 13-Jun-19 14:37:15

Boris will get it and the country will 'go to hell in a highcart'. We are the laughing stock of Europe and it will only get worse with that buffoon in charge.

Rowantree Thu 13-Jun-19 14:36:15

Calistemon guilty as charged: 'twas a typo, of course!
Fat arthritic fingers grin

Tillybelle Thu 13-Jun-19 14:30:03

sorry - the should be "when I keep saying "
why does 'when' keep saying 'the'?

Tillybelle Thu 13-Jun-19 14:27:37

muffinthemoo. It affects my confidence in a person too, Muffin. I think it is a very good indication of a man's integrity. How many womanising men have we known? I bet between us all we have had to put up with a lot! I had to cope with the first Headmaster when I began Teaching in the early 1970s. Then in the mid 1980s I was treated even worse by the clergyman husband of a friend. There are many of these lascivious, conceited men who think they are God's gift to women around. I think their sexual immorality speaks volumes about their whole character. I am not being flippant the I keep saying

"This is the age of Narcissism"

To me, Boris epitomises the layman's description of a narcissistic person.

Grany Thu 13-Jun-19 14:27:37

None of these Tories should be PM

Have you read what Polly Toynbee wrote sums up this past decade perfectly realistically. Don't want more of the same with a Tory government.

The only good thing about Boris Johnson getting the job is it will be satisfying blaming him when the country goes down the toilet.
Otherwise they are all appalling though Rory Stewart at least seems semi human
