Well, there's 10 left in the race to be our next Prime Minister and voting starts tomorrow.

Who would you LIKE to be the next leader of the Tory party?

And who would you BET on?

quizqueen Thu 13-Jun-19 14:20:43

Dominic is the best Brexiteer but I expect Boris will get the most votes. The MPs are threatening all sorts of things to try and stop him leaving the EU in October, they have obviously learnt nothing from the last two election results. All the PM, whoever he is ( all the women have gone now), has to do - is to not ask for an extension because Parliament will NOT ( I will use capitals if I want to) come to a consensus of an agreement over a deal and the EU will NOT renegotiate this side of us leaving.

I have just read Rory Stewart’s book “The Marches”. It is quite excellent, thoughtful and touching particularly about his relationship with his father. I am in the middle of his book “Occupational Hazards” about his time working in Iraq. He is a highly experienced and compassionate person and I would love to see him as leader.

Caramelkeg. you said "I fancy him a bit."

I say,
again
??This is the age of the Narcissist

It's how he wins votes. Like him or hate him, he has charisma. He is the one whom people know, show all the candidates to a broad spectrum of people and ask which ones do you a) know by name, b) recognise in order of certainty.
Boris will be the one best known.
Psychology research shows the most popular people are the "most salient". In other words the ones best known.

It applies to things as well as people which is why sub-liminal advertising was banned in the UK.

GillT57 Thu 13-Jun-19 14:13:25

caramelkeg just how was he a good mayor of London? Fritters away millions on vanity projects, buys water cannon....?

Caramelkeg Thu 13-Jun-19 14:05:50

I'd like Boris because
a) He'll deliver a proper Brexit
(I think).
b) He was a good Mayor of London, better than the tosspot we've got now.
c) I fancy him a bit.

Tillybelle Thu 13-Jun-19 14:02:19

GracesGran
Many see Boris as having an early election, wiping out Farage and therefore letting in Corbyn

Oooohhhh....... maybe Boris

Glammy57 Thu 13-Jun-19 14:01:34

If it has to be any of that lot, Rory would be my choice. Blojo is a male slut and should stick to HIGNFY! Corbyn is my man, come the reveloution!

Grannyrebel27 Thu 13-Jun-19 14:00:06

I liked Andrea Leadsom but she's out. Glad Esther McvVey is out too though! Think Boris will get it. Boris in no. 10 & Trump in the US! Doesn't bear thinking about! The world has gone mad!

Luckygirl Thu 13-Jun-19 13:52:32

He is known as a liar and a cheat who cares only for himself.

The brood of "love" children whom he leaves in his wake indicates a complete absence of morality, and a lack of intelligence that he cannot buy and use a condom. He and Trump are all of a piece when it comes to attitude to women. And this is the person who is likely to be the next PM.

What has brought us to this pass?

Neilspurgeon0 Thu 13-Jun-19 13:47:50

I voted leave
I am guessing BJ will get the PM position and get us (one way or another) where I want us to be - independent but I rather suspect that Scotland and possibly Wales and (if we are very lucky) London will strive for independence very soon after we leave so that finally HOORAY we can get a country that I want to live in rather than one which is how the BBC/Channel Four/Five want us to pretend to want to live in.

Elvive Thu 13-Jun-19 13:41:22

Why are certain people so horribly smug, its awful.

GabriellaG54 Thu 13-Jun-19 13:26:38

FarNorth
The PM's OH is often a sounding board, hence my remark but feel free to disagree if you know better.

GracesGranMK3 Thu 13-Jun-19 13:25:49

Rory Stewart is apparently showing second in the Conservative Party in a recent poll so thought I would put this on in case some of you missed it.

SuttonJ: ...And there's Boris's attitude towards business. Who can forget his succinct, thoughtful, intellectual response to a question about the concerns of top business leaders towards Brexit? I quote, 'F* business'.

Absolutely, I can't see how any serious businessman/entrepreneur could trust him. Also, I think Boris Johnson is the last man who should lead negotiations with the rest of the EU. He represents a group of the British upper class whose arrogant attitude and stance will not rhyme with theirs. That does not bode well for mutual understanding and compromise.

maxdecatt Thu 13-Jun-19 13:24:12

Keffie. You say ex-pats should vote in UK affairs because they pay tax in the UK. If they are drawing pensions that are based in the UK but not resident here they definitely should not be allowed to vote. Those pensions that they will not spend in the UK to boost the UK economy. Why should those that abandoned the country for "greener pastures" have any say at all in how the UK runs itself? Having lived among British ex-pats for years ( I was not one, I was a foreigner that had a belly-full of moaning Brits) I can tell you that they are a self-important, smug and self-satisfied bunch. Forever harping on about how bad the UK is, so bad that they left the place. Yet they want (as you do) the right to vote on the affairs of those they abandoned! Get real.

CrazyGrandma2 Thu 13-Jun-19 13:23:07

Out of interest I went to see Keffie's post. My response - Well said that woman! They all helped get us into this mess so why should we believe they will now get us out of it.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 13-Jun-19 13:22:46

If only we had a leader like Salvini (Apologies Re spelling) he is not rolling over to the EU elite!!

allule Thu 13-Jun-19 13:20:15

The general view is...let's have done with it.

The only way to do that is to revoke article 50.
Leaving, with or without a deal, will lead to years of arguments and financial chaos.
Revoking would cost nothing and put an end to the uncertainty everyone dreads.

Whatever happens, the country is split 50:50, so that aspect can be discounted.

MawBroonsback Thu 13-Jun-19 13:19:24

I'm backing Boris, but after the next election we may have Prime minster Farage

Dream on Kryssie whatever planet you are on hmm

Urmstongran Thu 13-Jun-19 13:19:17

I read keffie’s post.

I could pick so many holes it in but it’s time consuming and I don’t want to spend a gorgeous sunny afternoon doing so! It’s very hot here in Malaga.
?

But
7/ Theres been a deal Boris and co voted against. It's the only one we are getting. The E.U have disbanded the Brexit office. Why dont people realise that.

Well Michel Barnier and Angela Merkel say they are prepared to negotiate further! Plus the dynamics have totally changed since TM and Olly Robbins ‘did their best’. No deal is back on the table too - which it wasn’t before.

You watch things move now!!

CrazyGrandma2 Thu 13-Jun-19 13:19:10

Not being a member of the Tory party I have no say in who the elite few will decide to elect to lead their party and our country. Personally I would say none of the above, but if pushed then anyone other than Boris Johnson.
