Well, there's 10 left in the race to be our next Prime Minister and voting starts tomorrow.

Who would you LIKE to be the next leader of the Tory party?

And who would you BET on?

GillT57 Thu 13-Jun-19 23:43:32

evie64 essential difference between Brexit and WW2 is that we didn't vote for the war

Bridgeit Thu 13-Jun-19 23:43:17

Good post Paddyann , but I cannot see that the Labour Party has the answers , it will just be a different shade of awful.

paddyann Thu 13-Jun-19 23:35:33

so we should think of Brexit as being like WW11? What planet are you people on..there is absolutely no need for Brexit ..the UK hasn't at any time handed over "sovereignty" to BRUSSELS..neither does the EU rule Britain..all and any problems we have are Westminster created for their own reasons.THEY had the powers to control immigration THEY didn't do it,austerity is Westminsters baby as is the DWP.s handling of the disabled and vulnerable people who subsequently DIED.The TORIES are the problem for heavens sake wake up and smell the coffee before the UK sinks further into a mire that cant be climbed out of .
Of course this helps our Independence cause but I have family in England who are worried sick about whats coming to them and I pray and hope they are spared Boris for a start and Brexit which needs to be stopped NOW .

I voted leave after much soul searching. However, after the debacle of the last 3 years, I now really want us to leave. In my opinion (for what its worth) the EU bureaucrats have behaved dreadfully and tried to make it as difficult as possible as they are terrified that there will be a domino effect with Spain, Portugal and Ireland et al following our lead. I would like Dominic Rabb to be the next PM as he is young and seems to be very clear about Brexit. Saying that, it looks likely that Boris will win and I'm really not sure about his commitment to get us out on 31st October. WTO rules will be really tough to begin with, but surely Great Britain can prevail? If we survived WW2, this should be a walk the park surely?

Cindersdad I agree. What has happened to the general moral compass of honesty and integrity? We used to pride ourselves as a nation on being trustworthy and dependable. Listening to the accolades for reprobate Johnson by Cox, Patel and Truss today, I conclude that they must live by the same low moral standards. If they think it's acceptable to lie and to live like a reprobate with very low morals, theirs must be the same. As for his father saying he's had a good day and he's proud of him!

Perhaps that's where the problem all began, with a father who admires his capacity to live a life of debauchery, racism and misogyny. He should be ashamed of his son's behaviour.

Cindersdad Thu 13-Jun-19 22:45:13

I've read some of the replies. I'd like to see Rory Stewart but that is a forlorn hope. My next choice is Jeremy Hunt. Whoever wins will suffer the Brexit backlash unless they allow second referendum. very soon.

Steven Kinnock on Question Time said it how I see it. How could anyone back Boris Johnson a proven serial liar.

Labaik Thu 13-Jun-19 22:28:51

And now they're playing their little games of 'if you stand down/vote for me etc you can be in my cabinet...' oh to be a fly on the wall....

EllanVannin Thu 13-Jun-19 22:18:10

Whoever it's going to be will have to be more than capable of halting a war in the Middle East and right now none of them give me any confidence in the diplomacy department, least of all BJ. We don't need jokers !!

BlueBelle Thu 13-Jun-19 22:14:02

Well in a few years time when the result of this fiasco is seen we ll know what group of the general public to blame

The whole bunch of Tories are complete txxxxxs and unfortunately most of the labour are the same, Farage is any sane persons total nightmare and as a country we are finished for the rest of my lifetime

I saw a good explanation of Brexit
‘Voting to take back what we never lost, in order to lose everything we currently have ‘

Curlywhirly Thu 13-Jun-19 22:12:57

Alexa, I'm with you. Rory Stewart seems half decent and the most worthy for the job.

lincolnimp Thu 13-Jun-19 22:10:25

Pleeeeease not Michael Gove

Saetana Thu 13-Jun-19 22:05:56

If I was betting then my money would be on Boris, unfortunately. I'd personally like Dominic Raab to be chosen but its not looking likely at this stage.

Bridgeit Thu 13-Jun-19 22:03:45

Rory Stewart for me.

Alexa Thu 13-Jun-19 21:57:09

I'm not a Tory but I think Rory Stewart is one of the good Tories and I'd like him to be prime minister.

farview Thu 13-Jun-19 21:39:11

..there is absolutely nobody that I could think of to run our precious country..

farview Thu 13-Jun-19 21:37:01

For goodness sake..does it really matter...if people want to use CAPITALS to emphasise something...no it absolutely doesn't...

HootyMcOwlface Thu 13-Jun-19 21:28:59

I think Rees-Mogg is biding his time, thinking this next leader won’t survive the Brexit fallout and he’ll go for it next time.

grabba Thu 13-Jun-19 21:19:19

Rees-Mogg allegedly has investments that don't quite tie in with his anti abortion stand. Boris Johnson is clever as he has apparently fooled so many.

grabba Thu 13-Jun-19 21:15:15

MaizieD I am with you

M0nica Thu 13-Jun-19 21:14:54

Cassius went on to kill Caesar, perhaps Boris should look out.

GillT57 Thu 13-Jun-19 21:14:16

mistymorningstar. Rees-Mogg is a staunch man of principle who is uncomfortable with gay marriage, anti-abortion, strong on family values. But he is backing Johnson who is a liar, adulterer, has tried to force a previous mistress to abort his child. JRM is prepared to toss his beliefs and principles aside in his pursuit of power. You may wish to rethink your statement!

M0nica Thu 13-Jun-19 21:13:47

Mistymorningstar Have you read any of the reviews of the book he published recently on great Victorians? Try googling Rees-Mogg book reviews.

He is another like Boris, staggeringly clever with no intelligence or commonsense at all. In fact Rees-Mogg is BJ's alter-ego, dark where BJ is fair, thin where he is fat, self contained where BJ is all bluster and noise, well dressed v mess, monogamous family man (as far as I know) against a sexual tom cat.

He makes me think of Cassius in Julius Caesar. Caesar says of him Yon Cassius has a lean and hungry look; He thinks too much: such men are dangerous..

Cassisus is descibed as observing people and taking little enjoyment from life other than what allows for a sardonic smile. He is pettily jealous of Caesar (Boris) for being, as he sees it, a weaker human being than he is himself, and despises those who make him out to be almost a god

Sounds very like Rees-Mogg

Helen2244 Thu 13-Jun-19 21:09:59

I would vote for Rory Stewart because he will unify the country. Rory impresses me. He is extremely intelligent and capable as well as sincere, compassionate, clear thinking, honest and realistic. Rory shows he is also passionate about this country. He has a background in diplomacy and is so well qualified to lead the country. (please read all about his life - he has had an amazing one) If anyone disagrees they need to see all the videos of his interviews. I honestly think he is streets ahead of all the others who are just mediocre in comparison and I trust him more than any other candidate to get us out of this stalemate of Brexit, otherwise we are just repeating Groundhog day over and over.

I have never met him - I have just researched his life, listened to his interviews and what he stands for and am wowed by what I have learned.

jura2 Thu 13-Jun-19 20:55:41

oh my, just spluttered my tea all over the screen in shock.

You are jesting, aren't you? Not cringing to watch ?!?!?!

Mistymorningstar Thu 13-Jun-19 20:53:40

I have no idea why Jacob Rees Mog isn't in the running, he speaks beautifully, well mannered, and clever. A real family man, looks the part and isn't cringing to watch.
