Does anyone else think that Jo Brand's "joke" was in bad taste? Talking about the milkshake throwing she said "Why bother with milkshake when you could get some battery acid"

I appreciate she is anti-Brexit and she is entitled to share her views on that but surely this "joke" was a step too far.

AdeleJay Fri 14-Jun-19 13:52:14

I agree, whatever has become of us?

Twig14 Fri 14-Jun-19 13:40:22

I think she’s absolutely disgusting. Imagine any person who has suffered an avid attack hearing what she said. Plus there are numerous idiots out there who may go out and do what Brsnd has suggested. She’s not funny and I think she should be banned from appearing on tv. Pathetic idiot of a woman

AdeleJay Fri 14-Jun-19 13:36:44

I think context is important in this case. It was a throwaway remark, not at all meant to be taken seriously. I admit I laughed, sorry, laughs nervously. Of course I am anti violence, eggs & milkshakes only for protests.

I do think it has been blown up out of proportion though. And Jo Brand has apologised.

It seems we all must try harder to be politically correct whether we enjoy satire or not...but how dare the likes of Farage make a song & dance about it? Apparently he can lie & twist the truth to suit himself if he likes & it’s ok. In fact lying seems to be quite acceptable generally.

And I think it’s I’ll judged of the current PM to step in.

Looking at photo's of people who have been affected by having acid thrown at them left me wondering how any sane person could even contemplate committing such a dreadful act of violence on another living creature, let alone use it as part of a so called comedy act!! Words just fail me!

Orchidlover Fri 14-Jun-19 12:52:57

She should be sacked from the BBC Danny Baker was !

LuckyFour Fri 14-Jun-19 12:41:49

Nobody should ever suggest such a thing. There are vulnerable people out there who might think it's ok to throw acid over someone you don't agree with!

orly Fri 14-Jun-19 12:41:09

Exactly

sarahellenwhitney Fri 14-Jun-19 12:39:03

The BBC certainly know how to pick them as JB's namesake Russell has in the past also come under fire from his remarks.Although as far as I know, not related, these particular 'Brand's' appear to be inflicted with a sick sense of humour and for JB to use that responsible for a persons life threatening injuries as the means for getting a few laughs on this overrated programme is beyond belief.

I agree, it’s not a funny subject and I think she should have thought about it before she said it

silvercollie Fri 14-Jun-19 12:09:22

Did anyone listen to Frankie Boyle at his rabid 'best'? His humour is a little more publicly restrained these days but he would have said a whole lot more than Jo's major faux pas and, as someone put it, throwaway line. She is mistress of the snide one-liner.

If this snowflake trend continues we will be so far up ourselves that there will be a danger that the whole population becoming very boring indeed.

Whatever happened to free speech??

For heavens sake people, get a grip!

Tillybelle Fri 14-Jun-19 12:05:39

I have found a tape of her online, I find it very reprehensible, indeed shocking.

She should not have said this. No excuses, no "funny" context. It was wrong, a terrible influence on the minds of people who are likely to think that way. A shocking and disgusting comment.

GinJeannie Fri 14-Jun-19 12:05:10

Think about all those beautiful young girls who’ve had acid thrown in their faces by aggrieved partners or ex’s......they have had to suffer horrendous pain, countless surgery and live with the humiliation and cruel stares. Jo Brand’s remark was thoughtless and wicked, way over the top. Surely the BBC could have edited it out. I will never watch her again.

orly Fri 14-Jun-19 12:01:23

You have to take into account who said it. She's a comedienne and known for her acerbic throwaway comments. If Tommy Robinson had said it it would be a different kettle of fish. She's recognised that some people have been offended and apologised. That's enough in my eyes. I think she's very funny

Tillybelle Fri 14-Jun-19 11:55:31

Poppsbaggie. Thanks, the context is all important - Your post appeared after I sent mine - can you tell us where she said it please?

seadragon Fri 14-Jun-19 11:54:14

I've noticed Jo has become increasingly careless recently with her humor but this joke was downright dangerous. My first thought when I saw NigelFarage covered in milk shake was 'Thank goodness it was not acid . I hope no-one jokes about that." - (and I can't stand him). I was absolutely horrified when I heard what Jo had said and it is not enough to apologise after the fact....

Tillybelle Fri 14-Jun-19 11:53:54

Generally I like that Jo Brand sticks up for people who are not in a good way and for people with mental health issues.

I suspect this was a very sarcastic joke pointing out how wrong it is to throw anything at people.

Sadly it is a misjudgement and it does upset me to say I wish she didn't said it.

Barmeyoldbat Fri 14-Jun-19 11:46:02

Get it right Buster, nobody has said its ok to throw acid.

BusterTank Fri 14-Jun-19 11:41:16

You seemed to forget it was an ex UKIP member who she has aimed her vile jibe at .Being an ex mental health nurse you would of thought she would of known better . People who think it's okay for her , to say it's okay to throw acid over people , are just as sick has her . It's no wonder the country is on its knees when people think this is okay .

Poppsbaggie Fri 14-Jun-19 11:36:27

The 'throw acid' remark has been taken out of context. I can't quote her exact words but something along the lines of " I wouldn't do it, nor would I suggest anyone else try it". Personally I think she's hilarious.

Jaye53 Fri 14-Jun-19 11:30:58

Very bad remark.shocking joke too.IMO

123coco Fri 14-Jun-19 11:24:00

JenniferEccles. Well that’s rich I must say. Insulting people who are not right wing fanatics. Lets remember all the hate filled and fuelled crap that’s come out of the referendum. Hate crime up and all the incitement from Farage. Like there will be riots on the street if we don’t leave etc. It’s nearly all been from leavers!!!! AND LETS NOT FORGET THE MURDER OF JO COX! Except of course you have haven’t you ! That seems nothing in comparison to a bit of satire! Shame on you. People on the left usually want a more equal society, progressive and outward looking. Not a lonely insular only working fir the rich small mind mentality island. WATCH Years and Years on BBC to see what our near future will look like under the Farage and Boris of this world. I dare you .

Elvive Fri 14-Jun-19 11:22:39

You're doing my nut in Pogs.

Ciao for now.

"We await the prosecution of the poor veteran who was soaked with milkshake."
--
We await your response to the accusations you made it was all a made up story and you had the proof.

knspol Fri 14-Jun-19 11:19:08

Definitely not funny. I heard the programme and cringed when she said it although I did think she'd maybe realised how bad it sounded because she backtracked a little and said that it wasn't something she would actually do.

Elvive Fri 14-Jun-19 11:17:52

to be clear, I don't think its funny or appropriate. That is my personal view and not in any way connected to my love of all things leftie.
