Can a seven year old be a 'social power'?

Harper Beckham has come fourth in the Tatler Social Power Index. She apparently "Jets between the LA, London and the Cotswolds.". I don't think any 7 year old should be lauded like this and I certainly wouldn't want it for my GD. It seems to me to be a form of child cruelty to drag a child to social events when they should be digging holes, learning to skip and chasing around.

Is this a case of the world gone mad?? Ridiculous to say the very least - let children be children.

merlotgran Wed 26-Jun-19 10:35:37

They live in a different world but appear to be a close and loving family. I suppose if you're awash with money you don't think twice about allowing your kids to jet around the world and appear in glossy magazines.

Will the older ones develop a social conscience seeing as a lot of their income is derived from fashion and other consumables?

Hmmm! hmm

Those 2 little girls on the Hugh and Anita plastics programme who are trying to get McDonalds to stop making plastic toys are REALLY doing something WORTHWHILE. In my view they knock spots off the Beckham brood.

Gonegirl Wed 26-Jun-19 10:26:38

Yep. Sure I am. What's new?

sodapop Wed 26-Jun-19 10:20:26

Think you may be the minority opinion there Gonegirl

Gonegirl Wed 26-Jun-19 10:20:00

The girl didn't ask to be included in the ridiculous Tatler list.

Gonegirl Wed 26-Jun-19 10:18:09

To be fair, I think the Beckham children are being brought very well in everyday life.

I don't believe that David Beckham is brainless. Not at all. And I think Victoria is a good mother.

maxdecatt Wed 26-Jun-19 10:15:13

David Bechham has less brains than a tadpole. The power in that "family" is Victoria. She fancies herself as a fashion icon and treats her children as commodities to be used as props. What she says goes. I see he has a couple more tatoos. That alone should tell you that he is narcissistic and brainless. Imagine him at 70, a wrinkled old canvas. All the tats will be blurred, unreadable unless you stretch him out. I guess his 70 year old body could become a game. "Guess what we see if we stretch this arm or this leg?"

Blinko Wed 26-Jun-19 10:06:48

Rad - read..

Blinko Wed 26-Jun-19 10:06:35

Without the ever present media to tout these stories, these celebs would be nowhere. The people who rad this drivel (Tatler, Hello, OK, et al) must be short on interest in their own lives.

Lxrl Wed 26-Jun-19 09:53:37

Saw a post the other day about "babies with bling", where celebrities have bought their infant children $40K+ watches and bracelets! Very silly, to me. To each their own I suppose but I for one am very glad I spent my childhood in dungarees and trees, not diamonds and private jets!

Urmstongran Wed 26-Jun-19 08:44:38

Another daft promotion for Brand Beckham.

Did anyone else read yesterday the fact that Brooklyn has been paid a huge sum of money to promote the fancy BMW he’s been asked to drive? He made a hash of the wording silly 20y old boy. Rich people are just given expensive toys. Such is celebrity life I suppose.

What’s that saying ‘money goes to money’?

sodapop Wed 26-Jun-19 08:42:51

Absolutely ridiculous and a really bad example to others . No carbon footprint worries there clearly.

Resurgam123 Wed 26-Jun-19 08:20:23

I just do not GET the concept of celebrity.
There is a phrase something on the lines that .

They also need a crap.

Harris27 Wed 26-Jun-19 08:11:25

Posh and becks have known what they are doing right from the start. Even admits marriage rumours kids fashion etc they feed on the media and love it all! Their kids are just an extension of this.

DanniRae Wed 26-Jun-19 08:08:19

Just so stupid - it doesn't make sense to choose a 7 year old child! shock

Resurgam123 Wed 26-Jun-19 08:06:40

Oh it could be a "Harpy eagle." I think they are very agressive birds like eagles.

Resurgam123 Wed 26-Jun-19 08:03:04

I have just about worked out who the heck Harper Beckham is .
I thought "Harpers" were nasty big probably mythical birds.

janeainsworth Wed 26-Jun-19 07:53:41

Does anyone care what is written in the Tatler?
Does anyone actually read it?

TerriBull Wed 26-Jun-19 07:34:30

As others have said the Beckhams have been shameless and relentless in promoting their children and not shielding them from the public eye, I think they do them a massive disservice. VB puts up all manner of what should be personal little snippets for public consumption, particularly relating to Harper such as Mother's Day Cards, drawings etc. At such a young age she can't make an informed choice about the level of exposure she's subjected to. I believe people in the public eye can shield their children, have their faces blurred out of photographs.

I echo your comments Callistemon, influential with whom confused the average 7 year old won't know who she is and why would she influence any sane adult, she's a child for heaven's sake, her parents are pulling the strings. The Beckham's continual pursuit of the publicity machine on behalf of their offspring is just vulgar.

I've scanned lists like this before and always thought what
a load of shite somewhat meaningless.

Callistemon Tue 25-Jun-19 23:14:32

Presumably she goes to school and leads a relatively normal day to day existence.
She probably does lead a fairly normal life when they're not walking through airports, but I wonder if she'll get teased at school now because of this?

Callistemon Tue 25-Jun-19 23:12:49

Who chooses this list?

A social power influencing whom? I doubt my 7 year old DGD has heard of Harper Beckham.

BlueBelle Tue 25-Jun-19 22:34:57

I know it was a good while ago but I always admired Lenny Henry and Dawn French when they adopted a baby girl I never ever saw one picture or read one thing about her and still haven’t
Awful of Posh and Beds but they have always used their children as many ‘celebrities’ do

paddyann Tue 25-Jun-19 22:10:10

Easy enough to keep their wee girl out of the limelight IF they wanted to.Look at Andy Murray and his family,I dont remember even hearing what the second baby was or was called never mind photographs of them at fashion shows or tennis matches etc .
Its without doubt a Posh and Becks engineered thing..look at the son who was apparently a major talent in photography for all of 5 minutes or the other one who is a singing "star" .its just a way of keeping the family in the publics eye.

SirChenjin Tue 25-Jun-19 21:58:55

To be fair to them, are they encouraging this - or is it driven by the media with sales figures to think of? I’m not sure it’s the Beckhams fault so much as the public who fawn over celebs and buy this stuff.
