It is clear that Mccluskey and the Unions are fighting hard to keep their power over and above the membership. Been doing some research- and cannot find the exact procedure that would be required to appoint New Leader.

Can you confirm GD1943- what the procedure would be. As said before, JC could not prepare and appoint a Leader of his choosing, could he?

Being that this artical is printed in the "The Times" demonstrates just how worried the right are in regard to a General Election being forced on this shambles of a government in the near future.

Judging by reactions to Corbyns "They Have No Answers" address to the those protesting in London at Donald Trump's visit, Corbyn on the campaign trail is still very much a matter that the Tory Party should be very worried about.

I would assume complaints will be made by those who run the party .

There were concerns Wilson was in the early stages of Alzheimer’s, his resignation after two years of regaining power , the concern was from people who supported him . Not the evil right wing press.

Regardless of my opinions of Corbyn I wish he would resign to give time for a younger leader to lead .

I think he will stay in the hope of winning an election then
resign and hand over the keys of no 10 to the next chosen one.

Wasn't he recently filmed leaving his house with his wife, forgot she was behind him and shut the porch door trapping her between it and the front door - could have serious consequences if he were to forget he was with a foreign Prime Minister or President!

The powers that be in the Labour party have given up trying to persuade him to support remain. They want to replace him with a real remainer.

The above is entirely different to uniting just the Labour Party, or even more the Parliamentary Labour Party.

BTW, what is the official procedure for appointing new party leader? Surely JC cannot 'groom and appoint' who he wants. It will have to go back to the members, surely?

Urmstongran, could you post links to where Jeremy Corbyns health was "openly discussed" at a civil servants event, as I would be the first to complain to the head of the civil service in regard to that happening.

Re-uniting the Party? Really?

Jeremy Corbyn has been stating for a considerable period of time that he would not lead the Labour Party into the next scheduled General Election which is set for 2022.

He will, at the above time, be seventy-two years old, and that would make him the oldest person to ever take up the office of Prime Minister. He is prepared to lead the Labour Party until the Brexit situation is resolved or an earlier General Election called due to that matter.

I believe that Corbyn would be satisfied to stand down now, leaving as his legacy the reuniting the Labour Party and the broader Labour movement in the country as one identity. That has brought about far greater grassroots involvement, and that's the way it should be.

Whatever happened to Civil Servants being (or at least appearing to be) non-political?

All Prime Ministers/Ministers are “propped up” by civil servents and advisers and Corbyn isn’t any different. Remember the tv programme Yes Minister? I know it was a comedy programme but I think it was Margaret Thatcher who said it was very similar to how the Government works. Apart from that we all start to slow down as we age some more than others and should he be PM he’ll be 75 before another election. Presidents in the USA are often older and they cope probably because they are also well supported.

SENIOR civil servants have expressed concern over Jeremy Corbyn’s health, warning that he may be forced to stand down as Labour leader because he is not “physically or mentally” fit for the job.

Mr Corbyn’s health was openly discussed at a civil service event this month, as it was suggested he has become “too frail and is losing his memory”.

They said the 70 year-old leader of the Opposition is being “propped up” by his advisers and expressed concern at the prospect of him becoming prime minister, according to The Times.

One senior civil servant told the newspaper: “When does someone say [he] is too ill to carry on as leader of the Labour Party let alone prime minister?”
