no your wrong Scottish MP's DONT get a vote on anything that's English or welsh even when the result will have an effect on Scotland .I would go check your source of facts .

All UK MPs get to vote on everything that affects the whole country.

One of the things that I do agree with the SNP on is, the need for proportional representation. The Scottish parliament is more democratically elected than the HOC.

Because of our undemocratic FPTP electoral system the SNP is over-represented in the HOC and the Liberal Democrats, who get far more votes, are disgracefully under-represented.

BUT while we're on the subject what IS the "good reason"that English MP's get to vote on SCOTTISH matters that dont affect them?85% of MP's are English so the Scottish MP's of all shades have no hope in hell of being heard

Varian you are missing the point ...the LEADER of the Lib Dems cant vote on any matter that involves England or Wales ..as there are so few of them in WM you would have thought they needed all the votes thay can muster .I'm not sniping about Jo winning East Dunbartonshire ,it has often voted Tory in the past it was a marginal for decades and the people there are entitled to vote for who they believe in.She is a tory in all but name as even the BBC pointed out last night

I heard her on the Today program and was not impressed - because I thought like annie that she was shouty and hysterical, completely over the top, a disappointing contrast IMO to Vince Cable.

There is no good reason for a Scottish MP to vote on matters only affecting England. It was utter nonsense for the SNP to vote to prevent English shops opening at times when Scottish shops are open.

Many Scots are rightly proud of the Scottish leaders of our UK Liberal / Liberal Democrat Party - Jo Grimmond, David Steel, Charles Kennedy, Ming Campbell and now Jo Swinson.

Lovely to see former Labour Party acting leader Harriet Harman congratulating Jo.

The SNP should drop their sniping because Jo defeated their candidate in East Dumbartonshire to regain her seat and get behind the leading party of Remain to stop brexit.

Thank you paddyann, you have expressed exactly how I feel about her. The main reason many will like her is because she has vowed to stop Brexit, but perhaps the public should take a look at her voting record over the last few years.

I just turned off the news channel in frustration and logged on to Gransnet to decompress. Here in the United States, the conversation is centering on Trump's racist Tweets and rants against a few, new, liberal democrats in congress - all four of whom are women of color. The commentator also did an analysis of our electoral system and how DT could be reelected in 2020.

The Brexit Party did well in the EU elections for two reasons. The Remain vote was split. Leavers wanted to give the Tories a bloody nose. Oh, and turnout was very low.

Why are Brexit doing so well?

The last three years have proven conclusively that the promises of the Leave liars are undeliverable.

Many believed these lies and if the fraudulent referendum had been mandatory rather than advisory it would have been declared null and void.

The people have had enough of this brexit nonsense. It is time to put a stop to it. We have wasted billions and trashed our international reputation. We used to be a decent country but are now the laughing stock of the world.

Let's wake up to the fact that we have a great deal as a member country of the EU and stop brexit once and for all.

It is great that Jo Swinson and the Liberal Democrats are standing up for Remain.

That doesn’t matter Gill just imagine if Remain had won the vote, and the Lib Dems had thrown their whole weight behind campaigning to Leave, even though the majority democratic vote had been to Remain!
That Leavers didn’t like the outcome would not have mattered, just as the situation we have now with Remainers not liking it doesn’t matter.The vote went the Leave way and Parliament voted to implement it.Except they are now incapable of doing so of course.

Will someone please explain to me ,and Jo Swinson, how she can make stopping Brexit her number one job? We had a democratic vote. The majority voted to leave. What gives her the right to try and stop what was voted for?

The voters of East Dumbartonshire now know better than to support the SNP. Jo won her seat back in 2017 because because she was an excelkent candidate and they'd had enough of nationalism.

Dis I say she was an English conspiracy ? What I pointed out was that she is a TORY in all but name ,she supported their evil austerity ..an ideological concept not a necessity ,supported tuition fees South of the border ,much to the disgust of the young people who voted Lib Dem before the coalition .Sure she's anti Brexit..for now but shes as changeable as the wind so dont hold out hope for her to stick with that either .Westminster is anti Scotland .....believe me ,any Scot with a brain who cant see that after the fiasco that has been brexit needs to seek help !

It's no surprise that a politician who voted to treble fees, backed the bedroom tax, supports fracking and called zero hours contracts 'helpful' is viewed as a 'change' candidate by much of the establishment.
