The epitome of cocky I was frankly disgusted by his behaviour outside Leeds Crown Court.
He is an obnoxious individual who seems to think he is above the law.
Beneath contempt more like.

MawBroonsback Mon 08-Jul-19 07:20:22

I never expected my original post to be like lighting the blue touch paper and have been disgusted by some of the resulting pro TR posts. If that is the “community” on GN it’s not my community. If the whole thread needs to go to lance this toxic boil, so be it.
TG for those who speak sense - you know who you are.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 08-Jul-19 07:25:07

Perhaps in order to try to prevent ourselves getting mired in this awful hatred, we could have some sort of stock phrase. Like

“ we on GN abhor racism, homophobia and extremism. We do not react or take part in such discussion” or something along those lines.

Like “no comment” you see in police series.

suziewoozie Mon 08-Jul-19 07:29:08

I think GN should also ask itself about the regular criticism of Meghan Markle especially as one of the latest threads has a post telling a lie about her which no one apart from me seems to think matters. I’ll report this post too and ask GN to please think about the extent to which free speech and racism collide on GN with the former being an excuse for the latter.

Anja Mon 08-Jul-19 07:30:18

WW3 Maw et ak I wouldn’t ever attempt to enter into a discussion with people like this. Firstly they lack the capacity to debate, I’ve come across the types in RL so I know this to be true. They haven’t an original thought in their heads and can only regurgitate what they have been fed.

Secondly I simply don’t want to sully myself interacting with such low life.

Harsh? Vulgar? Yes, but there are times when we too jus have to ‘say it as it is’ to throw their words back at them.

Over and out. I have better things to do,

suziewoozie Mon 08-Jul-19 07:36:15

I’ve got mixed feelings about taking threads like this down - that way the racists win - it stops us expressing our disgust at people like Tommy Robinson and if we can’t safely discuss an important issue like racism, that’s pretty disgraceful isn’t it?

Whitewavemark2 Mon 08-Jul-19 07:41:34

suzie yes I think you have a point, but I wouldn’t hold your breath as far as HQ are concerned. They have guidelines they follow for legal purposes, but that is all. GN is for profit and their moderators are employees who have guidelines to follow but will not be allowed to go outside of that.

You have to see it as a profit making business and that’s all.

Undoubtedly if GN or MN were badly infiltrated by extremists I guess they would do something as it isn’t a good look. But other than that I doubt it very much.

tickingbird Mon 08-Jul-19 08:01:42

Hysteria rules by the looks of the latest offerings. You actually want the thread removing? I repeat my earlier point that I haven’t read any racist outpourings on this thread. It’s the typical reaction of a certain type who will not be challenged. The fact that some of us won’t be blindly led by the media and think for ourselves has obviously sent a certain faction into meltdown. I shall withdraw now as there is nothing new or, in the least, enlightening being brought to the topic and I’m moving house today (cue more schoolgirl abuse - “North Pole hopefully” blah blah). Have a good day ladies grin

There is a petition gaining massive support, seeking to have the BBC (reporter) charged for doing exactly what TR is now facing a prison term. There is absolute clear video evidence of the BBC reporter committing the same offence. I am not expecting the Tommy haters to show honesty and integrity by recognising the aforesaid. That is the difference. I will show the truth even if I was in support of said person/people. Its like saying: "What! Rolfe Harris? Never, he is a nice man"!!

Beckett Mon 08-Jul-19 09:34:00

Johno Can you please name this petition and the reporter (I have tried google but the only petition calling for a BBC reporter to be sacked is against Chris Packham).

SarahGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 08-Jul-19 09:44:31

Hi all, GNHQ here.

We've received a couple of reports this morning asking us to look at this thread and we've read similar comments on here.

As you all know, Gransnet is a post-moderated site, just like most other social media sites. This means that comments do not have to be vetted before being posted.

Consequently, we rely upon Gransnet users to report those posts which breach our guidelines. Gransnet is a very busy community with close to 250,000 users - it simply isn't possible for use to read every comment on every thread. If you come across an individual post which you believe breaches our guidelines or is not in the spirit of Gransnet, then please, use the 'report' button to draw our attention to it.

This is the most constructive way to help us moderate the conversation.

NotSpaghetti Mon 08-Jul-19 09:46:38

johno - please send a link to the BBC commentator with a verifiable date stamp. Thank you.

I’m interested that you say they are “committing the same offence” as at last you are acknowledging that “TR” committed and offence.

Re your (shouting) post above, just because some of us are “pro” upholding the law (regarding reporting), does not mean that we don’t deplore and condemn weak, biased policing, cover-ups and victim-shaming. These are not mutually exclusive.

suziewoozie Mon 08-Jul-19 09:53:46

I doubt Johno will be back with this non-existent information.,

Beckett Mon 08-Jul-19 09:57:52

It does seem that Johno makes statements and then when asked for supporting evidence ignores that request and just makes ever more rubbish remarks.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 08-Jul-19 10:09:27

Kate Ady posted on twitter, that she and other reporters had done the same as TR. I will try to find a link.

I am not endorsing TRs actions, I find the whole EDL movement appeals to what I would probably explain as those folks who are constantly looking for a "Johnny Foreigner" or those which are "different to them" to blame for all problems in the UK at the moment.

suziewoozie Mon 08-Jul-19 10:23:49

GrsnnyGravy - give your head a wobble. How could you believe for a nanosecond that the wonderful Kate Adie would ever tweet anything like that? It’s a spoof account - what is it about social media that people so often swallow what it says without checking when what it says goes against anything a minutes thought would demonstrate to be false.

suziewoozie Mon 08-Jul-19 10:29:46

What is hilarious about the spoof Kate Adie tweet is the well known racists who’ve immediately taken it as fact and joined in approving ‘her’ tweet. Basically how it works is that some people suspend all belief and judgement when they read something on social media that they desperately want to be true.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 08-Jul-19 10:37:06

give your head a wobble ?? never heard that before, but very apt.

EllanVannin Mon 08-Jul-19 10:43:35

What's poor Chris Packham done ?

suziewoozie Mon 08-Jul-19 10:45:05

It’s my ‘phrase du jour’. I just wish people would just think for a moment before believing something just because they want it to be true. I mean Kate Adie, Kate Adie, Kate Adie tweeting that? Especially our generation who actually know who she is and what an amazing distinguished career as a journalist she’s had. Remember when journalists were journalists?

suziewoozie Mon 08-Jul-19 10:48:22

Ellan it’s something to do with killing crows or rather not killing crows. It’s a true story by the way in case you’re wonderimg

Beckett Mon 08-Jul-19 10:57:14

Chris Packham campaigned against the killing of what are classed as pest birds, crows, woodpigeons etc. which resulted in the revoking of licences to do this. So some people are calling for him to be sacked from BBC

GrannyGravy13 Mon 08-Jul-19 10:57:37

Taken from her wikipedia page, complete with “twitter blue tick”

suziewoozie Mon 08-Jul-19 11:01:55

Sorry GrannyGravy I don’t understand your post - what was taken from her Wiki Page?

Beckett Mon 08-Jul-19 11:03:27

Well, if it is on Wikipedia it must be true!!! I am sure you are aware that anyone can alter a wikipedia entry
