Instead of gloom and doom (plenty about) how about we lift our spirits with any good news we hear to cheer us up?
?

As in today:
“THE Wall Street banking giant JP Morgan is about to embark on a major hiring spree in the City, despite Jamie Dimon, the chief executive, previously warning about Brexit job losses.

The growth plans stand in contrast to repeated warnings made by the bank’s boss about the effect Brexit could have on UK staff numbers”

Well I’ve got a pile of paperwork to get through and I’d like to do my tax return but I think it’ll be too hot soon.

I think, suziewoozie, it's just about anything that cheers us up but I agree a lot of it has nothing to do with good news in the UK.

Myself is/am? going to enjoy my small but lovely garden today.

I just don’t ‘get’ this thread.

Congratulations Tigertooth ????

lemongrove Tue 23-Jul-19 08:36:15

Good for you Tigertooth ?

lemongrove Tue 23-Jul-19 08:35:22

No Eloethan it has nothing to do with referring to ‘refugees’ so is not akin to anything at all. It’s an old country expression for being drawn to something.
Stop stirring.

Tigertooth Tue 23-Jul-19 01:14:08

I have cut obesity in Britain by 4st2lbs. Am now a healthy weight.

Eloethan Tue 23-Jul-19 00:51:31

lemongrove Yes, and an unpleasant one, akin to referring to refugees as "swarms". You imply that you meant no disrespect but you don't seem so innocently naive to me.

lemongrove Mon 22-Jul-19 22:04:02

It’s just an expression Eloethan hmm

Lessismore Mon 22-Jul-19 19:58:59

Sorry Jabberwok, what is the meaning of those faces?

Jabberwok Mon 22-Jul-19 19:58:08

Lemon ?????

Eloethan Mon 22-Jul-19 18:50:34

To describe people as "wasps to an apple" is just plain rude lemongrove.

lemongrove Mon 22-Jul-19 17:06:58

grin Ah well, you tried Urmston and so did lots of posters, but the gloombuckets seem to be drawn to this thread like wasps to an apple. The fact that it’s meant for good news and uplifting posts goes right by them.

crystaltipps Mon 22-Jul-19 17:00:43

The fact this thread is in the news and politics section and is asking for good news about the U.K. and people post general pleasant things which are not news or not specially about the U.K., or plain inaccurate means those postings can be challenged. Doesn’t make people moany or gloomongers or that they don’t like the U.K. or whatever interpretation those who are trying to jolly everyone along to agree with them put on it.

Eloethan Mon 22-Jul-19 16:36:36

It's not really an opinion, though, is it Bridgeit. This is a politics and news forum and the OP's final paragraph was certainly making a political point.

That being the case, in my view it is perfectly in order to make a "political" comment and not in order for other people to demand "cheery" offerings only.

Eloethan Mon 22-Jul-19 16:23:34

Lessimore That is what I would call good news - thanks.

Bridgeit Mon 22-Jul-19 14:26:43

GG your second paragraph, surely should have been prefaced with IMO , ( ie , she put in the wrong place)
You do not speak for us all (OR all of us) which ever you prefer.

Lessismore Mon 22-Jul-19 13:44:45

I will keep well away, so carry on.

My good news is that the community cafe where I help out is thriving. People of all abilities and backgrounds enjoy a 3 course , homecooked meal for a small donation. Thanks to an excellent organisation called Fareshare, they also take food home with them.

Jabberwok Mon 22-Jul-19 13:35:26

Oh well, we tried!!!!

Lessismore Mon 22-Jul-19 13:33:28

And the sun still shines every day even for those who choose not to see it

Most days I see it, but many are condemned to shade. Sorry but there is no need for the poverty many people are experiencing right now in the UK.

GracesGranMK3 Mon 22-Jul-19 13:03:13

Dictatorship will always have a hard time on GN I feel.

GracesGranMK3 Mon 22-Jul-19 13:01:47

Actually GGMK3 the originator of this thread said quite specifically that this was a thread to "lift our spirits with any good news we hear to cheer ourselves up".

Then she put it in the wrong place. Either this is political and you really cannot tell people to be cheerful at what they see the appalling way the country is being run, or it is the false argument that says "if you cannot agree with my view you do not love our country". It cannot be both in one thread, although noticeably the OP was an attack on other's political views - not really setting-up a "happy" thread, is it?

I am sure you meant well Apricity. Why not start a thread in chat?

lemongrove Mon 22-Jul-19 12:56:01

I think Urmston put this thread under news and politics because it doesn’t really come under any one heading.
Anyone who doesn’t want to post anything uplifting can always refrain from posting something miserable.
Good posts Apricity ???

Jabberwok Mon 22-Jul-19 12:51:10

Hear Hear Apricity! Happy Birthday to everyone whose birthday it is today, including Prince George!
