Johnson’s Government

I can imagine we will be horror struck as next week plays out. The cabinet will be a sight to behold.

lemongrove, all heavy commercial vehicles now have their Tachographs measure distance fuel etc in metric. All cars and vans can now have in the vehicle computer system settings which can be engaged to have dashboard readings in either miles or kilometres and litres or gallons for fuel.

The world is metric these days and there is no going back with the exception of the warped mind of Jacob Rees Mogg.

I expect that he will introduce the new Manchester to Leeds rail line bill into the House of Commons with all the measurements and distances in Imperial. Therefore the Gauge Distance between the tracks will be laid out as two feet eight and a half inches, as was the standard in 1948 at the time of Nationalisation. grin

lemongrove Sat 27-Jul-19 10:12:00

Btw.... I have never heard of a baby’s weight being given in metric, perhaps it is in hospital, but in the ‘telling’ it’s always been in pounds and ounces.
Miles is another one, we have never adopted metric for distance here.
For money, metric makes more sense though, much simpler.

It will be an interesting situation if Jacob Rees Mogg tries to enforce the imperial system of measurement on the Civil Service staff. Those that have never been taught that system would undoubtedly have to go through the laid out grievance procedure as the JRM ruling could affect their productivity, and in that their advancement in their careers.

The above would then in all probability result in a ruling of staff having to take time out from their official duties to learn the imperial system, no doubt at the taxpayer's expense.

What an an absolute twit this man is, and states even more in regard to the person who appointed him to such an office.

Maw grin that really made me laugh.
Being singled out for that ‘insight’ and called a stack.

jura2 Sat 27-Jul-19 10:06:16

maths and demographics not my forte- but I do wonder if there is someone out there who could attempt calculating the cost. Say about £50000 per person in care (very low estimate)

jura2 Sat 27-Jul-19 10:04:49

WW2 'Well so far spending plans have reached a rattling good £90bn plus.

Good job he isn’t a Labour Leader isn’t it?
'

indeed, if Corbyn was making those promises, the Tories would go ballistic.

90bn plus does NOT include his other promise, to pay for the cost of Care Homes for all, so people do not have to sell house to pay. Strangely enough - he has not mentionned this once again since he made the first promise... he has probably been advised to drop it and fast, as the cost would be massive.

Just working out that some of JRM's staff will be straight out of university, he will probably have a couple of interns as well. None of them if they went to a state school will ever have used imperial measures. Maybe they still teach imperial in private schools?

mcem Sat 27-Jul-19 09:26:39

Clearly gearing up for trade deals with Trump and co. USA has never contemplated adopting metric system.
Not just an archaic quirk of JRM!

Whitewavemark2 Sat 27-Jul-19 09:15:16

I use a total mixture but my first point of call is always metric. I happy with either tbh. I have lived with both in my life but my children haven’t. My children and grandchildren use only metric and are clueless about imperial. I don’t have an issue with that either.

Good point Pantglas1!

MawBroonstack, The right wingers are increasingly playing dirty, as though values and honesty don't exist.

Makes me feel like a haystack or Worzel Gummidge ! gringrin

However well-intentioned, I am not sure why I have been privileged, or indeed singled out, with this insight confused

I suspect that the announcement of no election is a lie.

Dominic Cummings has so far taken out 554 adverts on Facebook. Apparently rerunning the mass data-harvesting exercise that shaped the 2016 referendum.

Be very critical about what you read. Remember they are after the persuadables

They seem to have persuaded the BP supporters to vote for them, but if this doesn’t seem to be happening Johnson will forge a pact with Farage. After all they have so much in common.

Pantglas1 Sat 27-Jul-19 07:55:14

And talking of metrification, how come distances are still measured in miles?

Urmstongran Sat 27-Jul-19 07:15:21

Boris says no election until after 31 October.

But if he can’t deliver, he’ll have to call one surely? The numbers in the HoC are not in his favour.

crystaltipps Sat 27-Jul-19 07:12:00

Definitely gearing up for an election while he’s got the incoming new broom popularity. He won’t be able to deliver any of his marvellous promises without. Plus he can’t get away from that speech he made when Gordon Brown took over about how undemocratic it all was and demanding an election.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 27-Jul-19 06:36:25

For someone who has lately denied that there will be an election, Johnson is certainly into full electioneering mode.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 27-Jul-19 06:30:27

Well so far spending plans have reached a rattling good £90bn plus.

Good job he isn’t a Labour Leader isn’t it?

So much hot air and pearl clutching would be spent on how profligate he is.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 27-Jul-19 06:26:18

Add another £39bn to the above spending plans so far announced by Johnson.

The latest is for HS2 or is it 3?

growstuff Fri 26-Jul-19 23:37:31

MawBroonstack, The right wingers are increasingly playing dirty, as though values and honesty don't exist. Most of those opposed to them have decent values and have been reluctant to use dirty tactics. They're beginning to wake up and realise that the only way to fight the scum is with scum.

Minniemoo Fri 26-Jul-19 23:34:42

I like it, GillT57!

GillT57 Fri 26-Jul-19 23:27:28

Well you are all wrong because JRM will use chains and furlongs and rods and perches for measurement.

Urmstongran Fri 26-Jul-19 22:51:36

By the way, thank you Boosgran

I can just imagine the scenario - oh we must announce the birth to old Auntie Urmston- get the calculator out ahahaha

On a roll today?
Insulting as many people as possible?
Does it make you feel good/superior/better than the rest?
Or was it revenge for the idiomatic English lesson?

Urmstongran Fri 26-Jul-19 22:46:37

P.s. don’t you just love how threads morph?
This one is entitled ‘Johnson’s Government’ and here we are digressing, talking about babies’ birth weights and ‘BeRo’ cookery books.

At this time of night I think I quite prefer the meandering!
