I can imagine we will be horror struck as next week plays out. The cabinet will be a sight to behold.

Day6 Thu 01-Aug-19 20:21:31

Labaik. I know of a few ex pats in Spain who cannot return to the UK because they sold their English homes years ago to finance 'the dream'. They went out to the sun but got fed up with it and missed family. Still, they have a nice place by the sea and lots of sunshine.

I don't think we can blame Brexit for the rise in UK house prices.

Day6 Thu 01-Aug-19 20:16:05

No idea at all why that post duplicated itself in one message? Still, the meaning was clear.

It would be really interesting if Lessismore actually contributed to the discussion with views instead of making nasty and snide remarksIt would be really interesting if Lessismore actually contributed to the discussion with views instead of making nasty and snide remarks to Leave posters. I can't be the only one who's noticed. It's very juvenile. Do you have any political opinions?

Is your official position one of pot-stirrer? Your political views would be of more value. to Leave posters. I can't be the only one who's noticed. It's very juvenile. Do you have any political opinions?

I'm not envious of Urmston having a holiday home, if that's what you mean. I'm just puzzled that someone in that position doesn't have ex pat friends who live local to her that are struggling with Brexit [pensions/worries about health care etc]. I know someone who lives in Portugal that finds Brexit very worrying. Another friend who lives in France needs to move back to the UK but can't now afford a property here.

Pantglas1 Thu 01-Aug-19 20:00:52

Labaik- your supposed liberal leanings are not shining through in your posts on the politics of envy......

Pantglas1 Thu 01-Aug-19 19:58:48

Lessismore- you introduced the derogatory titles scroungers and asylum seeker to me and I defended their rights to claim whatever they are entitled to.

And as I have a busy, happy, retired life I only have time to read one of each (for balance - you won’t understand) the rest of the time I play catch up with t’internet but am not not obsessed. Happy to learn from all you experts.......

Callistemon Thu 01-Aug-19 19:56:03

Oh, OK.
I just wondered how you read all that, spent time on here and managed to get other things done too.

varian Thu 01-Aug-19 19:45:28

There are 24 hours in the day *Callistemon" I probably spend an average about one hour a day trying to keep abreast of the news. I agree it may well be a waste of time.

Callistemon Thu 01-Aug-19 19:37:56

Good grief, * varian*, do you find time to do anything else?
shock

Lessismore Thu 01-Aug-19 19:29:56

Oh pants, you're that other person aren't you.....thingy bob....you know, her off the telly. The one that reads 2 papers...

varian Thu 01-Aug-19 19:27:45

I read the "i" (which, along with its parent "Ihe Independent "was found to be the most balanced of all our national newspapers in 2016) six days a week. I also read "The Times" two or three times a week and I often read The Daily Mail and The Guardian online.

I think it is important to access a variety of sources of news and opinion, which I do online, reading everything from Guido Fawkes to LibDem Voice to Skawkbox.

Labaik Thu 01-Aug-19 19:25:54

So, Urmston, if you lost your source of income which meant you had to lose your holiday home would you just shrug it off and move on?

Labaik Thu 01-Aug-19 19:24:24

'So why do you give all those leavers such a hard time. I don’t understand that you can’t accept other people’s sincerely held beliefs.' I guess some of us don't understand what those sincerely held beliefs are when those beliefs seem to be ruining the country and causing hardship for a lot of people. And there is never any clarification when we ask for solutions to the problems that Brexit is causing. I, personally cannot accept something that, imo is ruining this country and ruining my childrens future. Plus the fact that most of the people who were the instigators of Brexit appear to be downright corrupt...

I would think someone with an overseas second home and who doesn’t care about the fall in the value of the £ will not be one of the “have littles”

You would be surprised dear.

Fall in the value of the £? We would just buy less than we already do (for a while, until it picks up again! - it always does).

Not everything in life is about money you know.

I am not materialistic.

If I have 10p in my pocket I have to spend it.

If I don’t, tough.

Pantglas1 Thu 01-Aug-19 19:10:33

I read Guardian For the left wing bias and the Mail for the right wing bias and generally find the middle road. And then I do the serious thought - how about you?

varian Thu 01-Aug-19 19:07:22

Perhaps that's your problem pants.

How did you come by these beliefs? When did you start thinking the UK ought to leave the EU?

What newspapers have you been reading? Do you think that might have influenced you?

Just try giving it some serious thought.

Pantglas1 Thu 01-Aug-19 19:00:46

So why do you give all those leavers such a hard time. I don’t understand that you can’t accept other people’s sincerely held beliefs.

varian Thu 01-Aug-19 18:58:19

Who's the hater?

Not me or any of the many Remain voters I know who want everyone typo be protected from the damage that could happen if the brexit nonsense is not stopped.

dragonfly46 Thu 01-Aug-19 18:56:44

I sincerely hope you are wrong about medical supplies WWM2 I will be due to start radiotherapy on 1st November - scary at the best of times but made much worse by all this uncertainty. My DH is insulin dependent diabetic so hope that is not affected. It is fine for all those who are healthy but what about those who are not?

Shoequeen53 Thu 01-Aug-19 18:56:40

I suspect we’re going to see quite a lot Tories defect to the Libdems over the coming weeks.

Pantglas1 Thu 01-Aug-19 18:53:34

And the politics of envy Varian.....? I know more people who have loads more than me than folks who have less than me but I resent neither. Hate hurts the hater not the hated.

varian Thu 01-Aug-19 18:26:33

It would be a much smaller cloth if the brexit nonsense is not stopped pants

Pantglas1 Thu 01-Aug-19 18:23:02

Here we go again crystaltipps, the politics of envy.....some folks have thousands in the bank, live in enormous houses and drive gas guzzlers. And some of us..... oh wait....we cut the coat according to the cloth.

varian Thu 01-Aug-19 18:18:18

There seems to be a good possibility that both Phillip Lee (still a Tory MP) and Sarah Woolaston ( who has lefty the Tories and is now independent) may join the Liberal Democrats within the next two months.

Both these MPs are qualified medical practitioners who thought they would be able to help people by becoming Tory MPs and have found themselves put into an impossible position as the party they joined has moved so far to the extreme right.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 01-Aug-19 16:11:10

Even better than I thought.

Philip Lee a Tory mps is considering defecting to the Lib Dem’s

That would completely wipe out Johnson’s majority.

I bet the government is promising him the moon in the hope of persuading him to stay
