I know we knew this would happen but it didn't stop my heart sinking when it was confirmed. It's not even about party politics. It's about him. The country is in such a terrible position and the thought of him being the one trying to solve all the problems is farcical at best and utterly depressing.

Stella14 piccaninnies, letterboxes, bum boys

It's probably that kind of stuff that got him elected by the paid up members of the Conservative Party. grin

You're right suziewoozie I should have said curse! - just assumed others would know that...

Apricity Tue 23-Jul-19 13:00:41

Britain's emBorisment. Bring on the clowns. I cannot believe that Britain has sunk this low. There is nothing else to say but God help you all - and that is from an atheist!

Craicon for a bet I will give him until the end of September and that is being generous.

Stella14 Tue 23-Jul-19 12:59:24

We certainly do live in interesting times. We could also say, dangerous times. With Trump in the White House, Johnson in a Downing Street and various extreme right wing leaders (e.g. Bolsonaro in Brazil) around the world, these could so easily become very dark times. I think Johnson is more a f***wit than extreme bigot (although the old adage ‘if you want to know what someone thinks, ask them’ applies - piccaninnies, letterboxes, bum boys). However, he is keen to work with Trump who is a misogynist, white supremacist and that speaks volumes! Then of course his position on Brexit and the NHS are alarming, to say the least.

I prefer Shakespeare suziewoozie. "Wise enough to play the fool".

(As I've said on the other thread)

Sara65 Tue 23-Jul-19 12:54:35

Charleygirl

I’m with you!

suziewoozie Tue 23-Jul-19 12:48:55

Wouldn’t normally correct humpty but think it matters in this instance ?

Gonegirl Tue 23-Jul-19 12:48:30

That is so wrong trisher. It was just Boris being Boris. Do you really want him to behave like an eighty year old? Do you want everyone to behave like eighty year olds?

suziewoozie Tue 23-Jul-19 12:47:51

Humpty - Chinese curse, not proverb!!

Craicon Tue 23-Jul-19 12:47:43

Boris the buffoon. Who’d have thought the U.K. could sink so low?
Anyone taking bets on how long he’ll last?

Gonegirl Tue 23-Jul-19 12:46:27

We were from three years ago. [shrug] #spiltmilk

trisher Tue 23-Jul-19 12:45:48

No Gonegirl it was sad. A bit like bald men with comb overs or dreads, or who wear shorts and pretend to be surfers at weekends. Everyone knows they are just trying to cling on to youth. (And failing miserably).

Framilode Tue 23-Jul-19 12:45:28

I think we're all in for a rough ride.

Gonegirl Tue 23-Jul-19 12:44:52

For me, the referendum went the wrong way. I am angry and sad about that. Can't see it makes much difference who continues with it all now. Yes I know No Deal would be bad. But there is no deal to had. So......

Minniemoo Tue 23-Jul-19 12:43:05

Agreed, Gonegirl

phoenix Tue 23-Jul-19 12:42:57

To quote Fraser in "Dads Army", "We're doomed, doomed I tell ye!"

Boris this side of the pond, Trump the other...............heaven help us.

Gonegirl Tue 23-Jul-19 12:42:34

It was a good speech. The 'DUDE' thing was quite clever.,

trisher Tue 23-Jul-19 12:41:41

His initial speech said it all forgotten what some of them stand for _Deliver Unite D???? and Energise spells DUDE!!! As usual a speech saying exactly what he thinks about most-himself -and what he imagines he is. A PM who thinks he's a "DUDE". There must be laughing in political circles around the world!!

mallows Tue 23-Jul-19 12:40:34

I agree about the laughing stock thing Charleygirl. and the rest as well

Charleygirl5 Tue 23-Jul-19 12:38:35

Will it? We are the laughing stock of the world as it is. To me it is a nightmare.

mallows Tue 23-Jul-19 12:38:10

gonegirl interesting I don't mind generally but given what's at stake here I'd be happier with bland or boring. The man is regarded as a joke at best. I am still depressed alas

Minniemoo Tue 23-Jul-19 12:37:55

I'm very pleased about it actually.

humptydumpty Tue 23-Jul-19 12:37:49

Gonegirl I think it's more the Chinese proverb 'may you live in interesting times' - that is, maybe not 'cheer up'!

Gonegirl Tue 23-Jul-19 12:35:31

Cheer up. It'll be interesting. grin
