I know we knew this would happen but it didn't stop my heart sinking when it was confirmed. It's not even about party politics. It's about him. The country is in such a terrible position and the thought of him being the one trying to solve all the problems is farcical at best and utterly depressing.

I saw "lemongrove. And you used it to "other" someone, to make them "less than". At the very least that is rude and unnecessarily cruel but, because you do it so often, to the same group you appear to be unable to put a point of argument to, I think it is worse than just rude.

lemongrove Thu 25-Jul-19 19:33:24

Hilarious GGM3 grin

The subject was a lot of tv watching going on today.

GracesGranMK3 Thu 25-Jul-19 19:24:08

So now you are saying saying there are "us" sensible people and "other" people like growstuff, lemongrove. You do enjoy demonising those you don't agree with don't you. I suppose it is the oldest propaganda technique. Strangely I cannot see growstuff as "evil" anymore than I can see you as good. That is what this supposed to lead to I assume. Propaganda: the tool of someone with no actual argument isn't it?

Whitewavemark2 Thu 25-Jul-19 19:17:33

Cummins. He is steering it all

Bridgeit Thu 25-Jul-19 19:11:13

Don’t worry Captain Mannering, they don’t like it up um, & Private Johnson has it all under control.
He says as long as we don’t blink, we’ll all be alright !?

GracesGranMK3 Thu 25-Jul-19 19:10:28

I think the "optimism narrative" comes from the same source as "take back control" growstuff. The aim seems to be to paint anyone who isn't "us" (pro leave with no sense of compromise) as doing down the country. Surprise, surprise, it taken life on GN too. Very nasty propaganda but, it has been through history, sadly.

It seems even worse that the very same people taken in by this deliberate and systematic attempt to shape the perception of one half of the country in order to achieve achieve power for a small cabal are having a go at those who "other" Jews (which is of course, also wrong). What they cannot seem to see is they are behaving in the same way and that their behaviour is unacceptable for the same reasons.

lemongrove Thu 25-Jul-19 19:04:51

growstuff have you been out in the boiling sun today?
Sensible people who are retired stayed in through choice today to stay cool.Hence some tv watching.

Urmstongran Thu 25-Jul-19 18:58:27

The Guardian in shock. Reluctant, very reluctant, to admit that Boris has pulled a blinder. But grudgingly admitting that he has.

This is a new government 100% committed to Leave

And the message to every Tory MP in the HoC is

'its my way or the Highway'

Hunt decapitated for resisting - the smack of firm government.

growstuff Thu 25-Jul-19 18:35:54

Is this optimism narrative the latest mantra, on the lines of "take back control"? The only people who are repeating it are the right wingers. Who exactly is "doing down the country"? It's classic strawman stuff!

growstuff Thu 25-Jul-19 18:33:58

I agree, jura. The situation as a whole isn't normal, but that's no reason for people to go rushing around worried the sky is falling in. Of course, life will go on as "normal" for the majority.

growstuff Thu 25-Jul-19 18:31:50

On a site for more mature people, it wouldn't be surprising if some have limited mobility or are even housebound. Maybe watching TV is their only way of staying in contact with the world outside their four walls.

Urmstongran Thu 25-Jul-19 18:29:46

It was almost a Queen's Speech on the doorstep of No. 10 - a great swoop of optimism to replace Project Fear. To inject self-confidence back into the British state is the essential job. May managed decline; Boris will inspire progress.

Firecracker - my brother is one of the biggest It brains ever seen - PhD in 1964, when most of us didn't know what a computer was- or IT for that matter. He is amazing- and is very very modest about it too- and has NO inflated ego either. He has discussed the issues recently with many IT colleagues of the same calibre (all retired now, but still very much on the ball) and there is NO solution known or foreseen.

And NO growstuff- the situation we find ourselves in is not 'normal'- not 'normal' at all.

growstuff Thu 25-Jul-19 18:08:53

Why wouldn't everything be "normal"? Anything else would be somewhat melodramatic. The heat seems to have caused you to suffer an acute attack of histrionics.

Gonegirl Thu 25-Jul-19 18:07:50

Hattiehlga Gonegirl - Well Done. End of !!

Too patronising.

Firecracker123 Thu 25-Jul-19 18:06:55

Well who knew Jura's PhD researcher brother in IT says it can't be done so that's it folks back to the drawing board. What an inflated opinion some people have of themselves.

Callistemon Thu 25-Jul-19 18:05:21

We had lunch out, I looked round the pub and remarked that no-one seemed to be 'distraught'; all carrying on as normal and enjoying themselves.

Gonegirl Thu 25-Jul-19 18:01:40

Daughter took me on a long drive in the countryside with air con on full blast. Tea room was involved. Still so hot here.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 25-Jul-19 17:57:22

Be interested to hear what you think of it * maw* as I am in two minds. Don’t really think I fancy it.

Callistemon Thu 25-Jul-19 17:56:28

We did go to the coast and it was a bit breezier there, but an hour on the beach was enough!

Whitewavemark2 Thu 25-Jul-19 17:55:26

It is far too hot to go out at the moment. Will go out for air and perhaps a paddle as the sun goes down.

Lessismore Thu 25-Jul-19 17:52:00

OOh what's that Maw.....need a distraction.

jura2 Thu 25-Jul-19 17:18:01

Far too hot Maw - melting here, watching grass turn brown.

Anyhow - here is the 'funny' explanation (with a bit of swearing, past caring !)

MawBroonsback Thu 25-Jul-19 17:11:20

It seems that some people have had little else to interest them today than watching the Hof C on TV!

I’d rather watch paint dry frankly , anyway, off now to The Lehman Trilogy for something really stimulating.

jura2 Thu 25-Jul-19 17:00:58

ignorant in all senses of the term actually
