Please, anybody tell me. I just don't get it at all.

disclaimer.....I am not a Marxist.

Article 50 (not 59) should be revoked ASAP.

lemongrove Sat 27-Jul-19 10:49:24

If he has said he will not revoke article 59 ( whatever it is) then maybe, just maybe, he is telling the truth.?

varian Fri 26-Jul-19 22:36:34

He has said he will not Revoke Article 59 but we all know he is a habitual liar so perhaps that gives us grounds for hope.

growstuff Fri 26-Jul-19 22:28:20

And the sad thing is, varian, that they don't even recognise how brainwashed they are.

For people who are bored of talk about Brexit, the only way to stop it is to revoke Article 50 and remain.

If we remain, we'll know exactly where we stand and can work from within to try and reform aspects of the EU we don't like. There'll still be some grumblers in the bar chuntering away as they sip their mild. There'll also be some knuckle draggers, but we've always had them.

If we leave, we'll be discussing our relationship with the rest of the world for years, if not decades. People will argue about policies which we now take for granted.

Sigh!

PS. If Johnson wants to be remembered by posterity as a great PM, the bravest thing he could do would be to revoke Article 50.

Tavern in Clerkenwell? Have you been at the Dickens again
Less? ?
Well, mines a pint if you’re getting them in.?

varian Fri 26-Jul-19 20:01:34

I've also just been to our local country pub and was quite shocked at how blinkered a local Telegraph reader still is.

"It will be fine! It will be great! blah blah blah"

Absolutely immune to any logical debate or evidence that it might not be. This chap is not evil or ignorant, just thoroughly brainwashed.

Lessismore Fri 26-Jul-19 20:00:51

Comrade Labaik good to see you at the tavern in Clerkenwell, what an excellent choice. It was so good to be amongst the masses, the lefties. It does us good to take a rest from our desperate quest to destroy.

jura2 Fri 26-Jul-19 19:45:20

One does not stop the other - anyway. But that is the smear- that those who are interested in politics, and distraught at the current situation- have a miserable life, no friends and nothing else to do ... won't stick here, for sure.

Labaik Fri 26-Jul-19 19:39:38

'Guess what ladies, I’ve been out with a friend, drinking Prosecco in a beautiful garden, at a country pub. It’s a beautiful day, there are lots more things to be doing than moaning about Brexit. Have a lovely evening.' well, I guess that just about sums up how much Brexit supporters care about the crisis this country is in at the moment [and, yes, even Jeremy Hunt referred to it as a crisis, but then he's not Backbone Boris is he ?].

lemongrove Fri 26-Jul-19 18:34:22

Ah, Corbyn’s Office.....enjoy!

Lessismore Fri 26-Jul-19 18:30:56

No , but we can muse about said conundrum. I don't find much to like yet.

Still I must run along and join the masses of left wingers who are this very minute huddled in darkened public houses, reading glasses on the end of their noses, discussing the Fourth International and the thoughts of Lenin on philosophical realism.

JenniferEccles Fri 26-Jul-19 16:02:53

Of course we can’t answer the question until we have had a chance to see what he achieves in the months to come

Urmstongran Fri 26-Jul-19 16:01:28

The magic money tree does exist. It was at the bottom of Eeyore Hammond’s garden. He didn’t tell Theresa May about it but she found and slashed some branches off it to give out as pay rises to teachers, the Police and others in her last few days in office.

Now Boris knows it’s there too. Plans will be made.

Hammond must be crying at his depleted reserves.

The cheers in the HoC when Theresa May told the House that the Conservatives had been prudent with finances. No wonder really - they took the austerity ball and ran with it for years. Cuts to libraries, police recruitment, underfunded schools, no Sure Start. Jeez.

Boris understands the inequality that exists in the U.K. and will do something about it now. Savid Javed’s brother is a Police Commissioner. He will be aware of the Force’s needs and stop and search is coming back.

The wheel has turned and Boris knows he has to share the toys out more fairly.

Any kind of brexit would impoverish the UK and a no-deal brexit which BJ seems to be driving towards would be utterly catastrophic.

If you seriously believe he can drive us into a no-deal brexit , cut taxes and massively increase public spending, please tell us where he has found this "magic money tree" which Theresa May told us did not exist.

Day6 Fri 26-Jul-19 15:43:03

I cannot be the only one smiling at the general muck-raking going on here and in MSM.

His haters are out in force and he's been in office less than 48 hrs. grin

They are doing their best to pull him down. It is quite amusing. I think the days of left wing hysteria have peaked. Most of us see now who they follow and how they seem to hate the masses who vote differently from them.

Lots of desperation to destroy, on here and out there.hmm

Day6 Fri 26-Jul-19 15:39:22

Boris as a new PM has said so much that gives us hope. He already has made statements concerning schools, the police force, the NHS, the lowest paid, etc, etc, etc.

He is aware of what needs to be done. Astute, I'd say, and head and shoulders above the leader of the opposition in terms of drive, character and brain-power.

Jacinta55 Fri 26-Jul-19 15:15:55

I'm afraid that I don't like Boris Johnson: he doesn't seem to be a gentleman which is what a statesman should be. I voted for Mr Hunt. When I think of the Prime Ministers that we've had in the past it makes me cringe at the current crop. What is happening to this country?

Boris Johnson has been urged to dismiss an aide who called far-right activist a hero. Chloe Westley, No 10’s social media chief, praised Anne Marie Waters in 2016 tweet.

Waters co-founded the UK branch of the anti-Islam group Pegida alongside Robinson, has links to former BNP members and has described Islam as “evil”.

She stood to be leader of Ukip before quitting the party to form For Britain. The party argues that the UK’s Muslim population is causing a crisis, as it is growing rapidly and has beliefs that cannot be incorporated into a liberal democracy.

Jon Trickett, the shadow cabinet office minister, said: “It is profoundly shocking that someone who holds these views should be at the heart of government. She should never have been appointed in the first place and Mr Johnson must now move swiftly to dismiss her.”

Matthew McGregor, the campaigns director of group Hope Not Hate, said: “Anne Marie Waters leads a far-right party with virulent Islamophobia at its core. Calling her a hero was a serious error of judgment, as Westley later admitted. This appointment is deeply concerning.”

Boris is no clown but has succeeded in aligning himself with Trump and Putin and the far right.

Cheers wine!

But the main thing is that you had a lovely afternoon out Callistemon.
Cheers wine

I only had an Elderflower pressé (English) when we were out but it was lovely and chilled.

maddyone Wed 24-Jul-19 18:03:38

I suspect, but clearly don’t know, that if we finally manage to achieve Brexit, that Nigel Farage will probably gratefully retire from public life. He tried to do this after the referendum, but due to Theresa May’s efforts to take us out, but really leave us in, he had to make a comeback. Clearly as UKIP had become something he couldn’t align himself to, he had to create a new party. If on the other hand..........
