As I have said my own personal view is there are a lot of questions about the UK and the EU.....wasted money being number one.

When responsibilities are repatriated from the EU, we'll still need to employ bureaucrats for various functions. We'll just end up duplicating what the EU currently does.

Lessismore - if you’d read my post properly it wasn’t about leaving the UK. And certainly not about being wealthy which we most certainly aren’t, although what we do have has been earned not inherited.

It was about the people in the UK wanting to leave the EU so that there would be one less set of bureaucrats to pay for and listen to, even if it meant being slightly poorer in the short term.

A bit like Slaves being emancipated but poorer financially initially.

It’s definitely a lot more than a leaflet. It’s a taxpayer funded election campaign which evades the spending cap because no election’s been called. It’s the epitome of cynicism and mendacity.

Of course Boris's appearances will be included. Not necessarily payments to him but how do you think they get to these places? How about all the security? The people who are working putting this into place?

The leaflet is a fraction of the cost. It's 3 and a half months of work trying to convince and reassure the electorate and of course that will cost a lot of money. Money well spent? There has been the Boris 'Bounce' so maybe it is as far as Conservatives go.

There are many who won't be convinced of course, which is fine. It's just a natural thing to do. Just like if the boot was on the other foot.

As for the this campaign being 10 times more. How do you know? They too had campaigns. They will have costed. The leaflet in that case was £9 million. But that is only the price of the leaflet.

I don’t think Boris’s personal appearances are included. I should hope not as they are being referred to as an effort to unite the nation, though have the added benefit for BJ in upping his profile.

It would appear so, Pantglasl. And Nandalot. If they were spending 100 million on a No Deal leaflet I too would be less than impressed. But this money is going on a lot more than a leaflet. For reasons mentioned earlier.

To Pantglas1. The point Varian was making is that the Brexiteers criticised 9 million pounds being spent on a Remain leaflet but now 100 million pounds is being spent on the No Deal leaflet. There are two points here. One is the much bigger amount being spent. How is this justified when 9 million was sufficient before. Secondly, the Brexiteers criticism seems hypocritical now that they are spending ten times the Remain leaflet amount. Hope that is clearer for you now, Pantglas1. Sorry if I interfered, Varian.

Great so now it's not just the leaflet. That's true. TV adverts. But this money is to pay for all this barnstorming around the UK. How do you think that's being funded? Of course if you're a Remainer it's money wasted. However, had it been a Remain Team you'd think it was a great idea. Showing their faces, explaining, answering questions in different areas, different businesses etc etc. Boris seems to have been everywhere this past few days. And that's what the 100 million is for. Sounds a lot but when you compare it with giving the EU £13 billion and getting back £4 billion (to be spent on what they tell us), it's small change really. But to suggest it was just going on the leaflet ... well I was hoping that you'd all appreciate that wasn't the full story.

Not TV advertising. Hardly anybody under about 50 watches TV these days. It's more likely to be for social media ads.
