A home goal surely attacking the Royals?

Callistemon Mon 12-Aug-19 17:00:04

He was introduced as quite possibly the next British Prime Minister
shock

Dinahmo Mon 12-Aug-19 16:23:49

Callistemon The speech was reported in the Australian Press so it would have been on their radar. I didn't say I was speaking for them I said "I would think" or IMHO. Not quite the same thing

merlotgran Mon 12-Aug-19 16:12:06

Is there a name for 'lastworditis?'

Callistemon Mon 12-Aug-19 16:07:52

And, here or there, I doubt that many are in favour of militant unions controlling their governments.

Callistemon Mon 12-Aug-19 16:04:52

Do you speak for most Aussies, Dinahmo?

In fact, it may well have not even been on their radar.

Dinahmo Mon 12-Aug-19 15:59:57

The conference at which NF spoke was the Conservative Political Action Conference organised by the American Conservative Union and taken out of the US of A for the first time, It was aimed those who (amongst other things) despaired at the prospect of an Australian government controlled by militant unions and influenced by greens. The publicity also states that Australia dodged a socialist arrow this time "thank goodness for that".

I don't suppose that the tabloid which also reported NF's speech mentioned the other subjects. I would think that most Aussies, whilst they might not care too much about our Royals will be upset or angry at some of the other content.

growstuff Mon 12-Aug-19 15:40:50

Beckett, I didn't realise it was compulsory to take sides.

Nonnie Mon 12-Aug-19 15:36:59

Calli I think I read that it was a private function so probably the Aussie's don't even know he was there. I suppose their media may have reported it in which case they probably are saying that!

Callistemon Mon 12-Aug-19 15:34:12

Oh dear, poor Nigel doesn't seem to understand that Harry is not next in line to the Throne after William.
I wonder, though if the Aussies will notice the boo-boo?

The 50% that are not republicans did seem to love Harry and Meghan when they went.
They are probably scratching their heads and saying Nigel Who?
grin

Nonnie Mon 12-Aug-19 15:22:13

Hi Annie you are 'ridiculous' and I am 'silly' grin. Seems like our opinions have less value than the judgemental types grin

Callistemon Mon 12-Aug-19 15:22:02

A new Gransnet game:

Where's Wally Nigel?

Elvis Nigel has left the thread

Anniebach Mon 12-Aug-19 15:14:11

Merlot I am not nit picking, out riders are not part of the Windsor’s security team , they are police officers trained as outriders and accompany others as well as the Windsors .

gillybob Mon 12-Aug-19 15:12:26

Yes you’re probably right Calli but would we be paying for his/her children, their children’s children and their children’s children’s children ......... for ever and ever ? Not to mention uncles, aunties, cousins ........

gillybob Mon 12-Aug-19 15:09:47

Me neither merlot but I do dislike the sheer hypocrisy of the royals .

Callistemon Mon 12-Aug-19 15:07:56

gillybob
I don't imagine for one moment that, if we were a republic, a President would be riding around on a bike with no security personnel.

In fact, I think there would be even more security for him/her and extended family.

We still pay a lot of money for security for ex-politicians, some of whom are now extremely wealthy.

merlotgran Mon 12-Aug-19 15:04:14

I don't hate any of them.

Beckett Mon 12-Aug-19 15:02:45

This thread has me smiling - the hate Farage and hate the RF posters don't know which to side to come down on!

merlotgran Mon 12-Aug-19 14:54:30

In the event of an incident they are trained to protect not just ride away into the sunset.

Witness what happened when Greenpeace tried to disrupt Boris making his way to Buckingham Palace. The outriders were the first to re-act.

merlotgran Mon 12-Aug-19 14:52:26

It's pointless nit-picking, Annie because the Royal family security detail is made up of military personnel, (retired or serving) and law enforcement agents.

Outriders are part of a security team on any particular occasion they are picked for duty.

Callistemon Mon 12-Aug-19 14:51:45

Has Farage gone into hiding?
At least on this thread grin

gillybob Mon 12-Aug-19 14:47:43

So what part is the outrider playing if it is not security ?

They can't be just along for the fun of the journey? hmm

Anniebach Mon 12-Aug-19 14:41:25

An outrider is not part of the security team. I don’t recall asking or expecting you to change your mind gilly

gillybob Mon 12-Aug-19 14:39:03

Is an outrider not part of the entourage ? confused

I mean he wouldn't be there otherwise would he?

As I said up thread. This is a non-argument.

I will not change my mind that most of the rf are first class hypocrites who talk the talk, but refuse to actually walk the walk (which is just for the rest of us).

Anniebach Mon 12-Aug-19 14:35:31

Gilly the recent case of a woman being injured , it was an outrider not a security guard. Annoying as it is , at times when they are driving through London for an official engagement the route is cleared , not the entire route closed but sections where traffic has to stop to let the car through.

gillybob Mon 12-Aug-19 14:13:38

That's ridiculous Annie and we are having a non-argument.

You said they don't travel with a "security entourage" and yet they often do.
