A home goal surely attacking the Royals?

Callistemon Mon 12-Aug-19 16:07:52

And, here or there, I doubt that many are in favour of militant unions controlling their governments.

merlotgran Mon 12-Aug-19 16:12:06

Is there a name for 'lastworditis?'

Dinahmo Mon 12-Aug-19 16:23:49

Callistemon The speech was reported in the Australian Press so it would have been on their radar. I didn't say I was speaking for them I said "I would think" or IMHO. Not quite the same thing

Callistemon Mon 12-Aug-19 17:00:04

He was introduced as quite possibly the next British Prime Minister
shock

Firecracker123 Mon 12-Aug-19 17:27:00

Well never say never, if Boris doesn't deliver on his promises he could well be.

Nonnie Mon 12-Aug-19 17:30:50

Oh please no! Are they that gullible? Of course we are so they might well be.

HurdyGurdy Mon 12-Aug-19 17:40:46

Gonegirl - Don't these newbies know how to do links? hmm

I'm not a newbie and I don't know how to do links.

It is a requisite of membership of the site? I better tender my resignation now, if so.

Nonnie Mon 12-Aug-19 17:46:15

Gonegirl bit harsh.

HG if you are on a PC look below the Post Message button and you will see what to do. We've all had to learn at some stage and I have made mistakes. Suspect most of us have!

merlotgran Mon 12-Aug-19 17:53:36

It's not a requisite of membership but if you're going to expect people to comment on an article that you've read then you need to either post a link or give the name of the source.

You can't expect posters to guess what you're on about.

Gonegirl Mon 12-Aug-19 17:56:47

Yes, it was a bit harsh.

But I thought I'd got away with it. shock grin

Nonnie Mon 12-Aug-19 18:01:58

I just think it is kinder to show people how to do it.

Gonegirl Mon 12-Aug-19 18:05:49

Well yes, it is. You are very kind Nonnie. smile

GracesGranMK3 Mon 12-Aug-19 18:12:52

He's just behaving like a nasty little gossip to keep himself in the limelight.

Lessismore Mon 12-Aug-19 20:10:24

Actually I think it's quite fun to guess, how very rude and unpleasant many of you are.

People don't like links or " blue writing".

Lessismore Mon 12-Aug-19 20:12:02

It's not a requisite of membership

Is it a jolly club? Have i failed to read the terms and conditions?

Callistemon Mon 12-Aug-19 20:22:27

I can do links but not sure how you do the clever ones which say 'here' in blue.
I can't access all links either, possibly because some posters put very dangerous links on grin which my device won't allow me to access.

merlotgran Mon 12-Aug-19 20:33:40

Callistemon, You do two square brackets in front of the beginning of the link [[nospaces …... then at the end of the link you type what you want followed by two end brackets eg., Here]

I've only put one bracket after 'Here' because otherwise the whole thing comes out blue as though it's a link but there should be two.

growstuff Mon 12-Aug-19 21:52:00

According to Reuters, which isn't known for sensationalism, this is a quote from the recording of Farage's speech:

“Terrifying! Here was Harry, here he was this young, brave, boisterous, all male, getting into trouble, turning up at stag parties inappropriately dressed, drinking too much and causing all sorts of mayhem. He was the most popular royal of a younger generation that we’ve seen for 100 years.

And then he met Meghan Markle, and it’s fallen off a cliff.”

So does that mean it was OK when he wore Nazi uniforms and was generally a bit of a "lad"? I don't suppose it has anything to do with having settled down with a mixed-race wife.

Gonegirl Mon 12-Aug-19 21:54:13

Callistemon! grin

I can understand people having opinions about others but don't understand why NF is so rude all the time. I was taught that there was no need unless you were uneducated. Anyone else remember Mrs Doasyouwouldbedoneby?

I have an ongoing debate on Twitter with someone who has the opposite view on Brexit to me and we are both being polite and sharing our views. We don't have to be nasty to give our opinions.

Jabberwok Tue 13-Aug-19 12:08:29

You do on Gransnet!!!!! grin

Callistemon Tue 13-Aug-19 12:36:19

merlot I can do that but how do you link to something by just using one word?

here

#numpty

Nonnie Tue 13-Aug-19 12:53:45

Jabberwok if that was directed at me please give an example of me being nasty or apologise.

I have different opinions to some and I retaliate, politely, if someone has been unpleasant to me but I do not think I have ever been nasty.

merlotgran Tue 13-Aug-19 13:15:35

Callistemon, when you have typed 'here' after the link, you type the two closed brackets. If you preview your post you should just see the work 'here' in blue as it will be hiding the link.

If you use preview you can practice with a few links without worrying about sending them if it hasn't worked.

I just admire the Queen but can't be doing with the " followers on ". I think once the Queen is gone then so will the majority of supporters for the Royals. I, for one ,as Royalty has played out over the years and it's only been the Queen who has kept the establishment going.
