Is Harry less popular now?

Reading on the BBC News page that Harry is less popular since booking up with Megan. I thought I liked Megan and that she would be a calming influence but now I think she’s influencing him to a ridiculous degree and they are both behaving like Hollywood divas. What are your thoughts?

Come back all I said; the stupid twit has apparently flown to Ibiza with wife and child on a private jet, second in two weeks. And Ibiza, in the middle of the busiest holiday season, when they desire 'privacy.' ??

So where do you find your gossip fodder?

I can honestly say that I know almost nothing about the royal family because I don't seek out information. I'm not interested in their lives nor the judgemental tittle tattle.

Framilode Wed 14-Aug-19 22:07:40

The problem is they make it so easy for the would be critics. By all means go off to Ibiza for a holiday but don't travel by private jet. What's wrong with first class on British Airways? I know Meghan is supposed to be on mat leave at the moment but as someone said earlier Harry doesn't appear to be doing anything.

growstuff you assume everyone who criticises the Windsors
are into gossip and Hello magazine. Not so, some do criticise what the Windsors say and do when they say and do, not what is in tat such as Hello .

If Harry had been a Harriet who underwent a complete change of character after marriage would she be considered to have married a dominant man

growstuff Wed 14-Aug-19 20:07:59

I'm not defending them at all, Anniebach. I hardly ever know what they're up to and didn't even watch Harry's and William's weddings. I only knew about the climate change controversy because I read comments on here and on some other sites. I just click over them usually, because I'm not the slightest bit interested. I don't pretend to know what any of them is thinking or what motivates them. I really don't "do" royal family gossip.

If I could start again, I wouldn't have a monarchy, but I think what we have is, on balance, possibly better than the alternatives at this point in history. When William is king, we might see a move to a more Dutch/Danish-style monarchy, but who knows?

What has really shocked me is the venom shown on here towards people nobody on here knows. There are people who obviously follow everything the redtops or Hello Magazine (or whatever) writes. Do people really not have anything more important to get worked up about? I really don't like the way the royal family is used as a political pawn by the likes of Farage, who seems to prefer Harry , when he was dressing up as a Nazi (wonder why?)

The royal family has become a commodity as much as anything. They're the ultimate soap opera and everybody seems to think they're entitled to an opinion. And, no, I don't think they should be given state money for multiple residences and private holidays.

Iam64 Wed 14-Aug-19 19:39:25

growstuff - you and me both. They are unlikely to do so because Harry still believes in the RF and the work it does for the country. It's his heritage - I bet he and Meghan wish that wasn't so - but it is.

Anniebach Wed 14-Aug-19 19:33:59

You so defend them growstuff ?

growstuff Wed 14-Aug-19 19:25:59

If people stopped being voyeurs into the minutiae of the royals' lives, nobody would read the stuff magazines write and they wouldn't make a profit.

Harry and Meghan must have enough money of their own. Quite honestly, if I were them I'd emigrate and put a high security fence round my property.

paddyann Wed 14-Aug-19 19:22:01

PR eazybee nothing more nothing less. They have to be seen to be "nice" to the peasants so the general public will keep backing them and shouting loud how much they do for the wads of cash we chuck at them.Otherwise WHY was hello magazine there?

Anniebach Wed 14-Aug-19 18:31:19

Wonder if he went bare footed

eazybee Wed 14-Aug-19 18:22:16

This morning I read casually glanced at Hello magazine, and it featured Prince Harry on a visit to a hospital? where there were young children, and it was obvious what a good rapport he had with children, parents and staff. This is the Prince Harry we warmed to, not this half-baked 'evangelist' on global issues.
Plus, I didn't realise what a large bald patch he has. (Sorry).

SirChenjin Wed 14-Aug-19 16:37:56

Oh dear... grin They are making it very easy for the press, aren't they? The gift that just keeps on giving.

Sparklefizz Wed 14-Aug-19 16:34:15

Oh dear! It's just been reported that Harry, Meghan and baby Archie flew to Ibiza on a private jet at the beginning of August for a 5-day holiday to celebrate Meghan's birthday. I am sad that Harry has turned into a virtue-signalling hypocrite. I liked him much more and didn't care what he did before he started preaching to us all.

Ohmother Wed 14-Aug-19 14:09:10

Oh yes! Anniebach

Firecracker123 Wed 14-Aug-19 09:55:31

Yes one rule for the Royals and celebrities preaching about climate change while jetting around on their private jets and yachts while us plebs probably only have one overseas holiday a year. Hyprocrites.

Smileless2012 Wed 14-Aug-19 09:55:08

I agree Annie and SirChenjin 'do as I say and not as I do'!

Anniebach Wed 14-Aug-19 09:07:39

Same for me SirChenjin

Announcing only two children thus saving the planet but jetting to America for a baby shower.

SirChenjin Wed 14-Aug-19 09:04:30

I know there are people who dislike her because she's American/mixed heritage/an actor but there are many more (like me) who just find her (and Harry) incredibly irritating with their moralising while living very privileged lives to which the tax payer contributes generously.

Anniebach Wed 14-Aug-19 08:58:46

Why all this talk of bashing? Criticism yes . Attending that
event by jet to give a barefoot talk was stupid and deserved criticism .

Iam64 Wed 14-Aug-19 08:48:38

I've given up sitting on my hands to avoid contributing to yet another let's bash Meghan and Harry thread.
Whatever people's views of Diana she had a bliddy awful time as a naive 19 year old catapulted into becoming the wife of the king in waiting. It wasn't a match made in heaven and the story about the face on the tea towels would be funny if it wasn't heart breaking.

Harry grew up in the shadow of the wreck of his parents marriage. There's plenty of research that points to the likelihood of depression or other m.h. issues being common in adults whose parent died when the child was an adolescent.

There was a period when Kate Middleton was the young woman to hate and that baton has been passed to Meghan Markle. The fact she was an actor, is of black American heritage, has a long interest in women's rights/the environment etc, all add to the ease with which she slots well into the figure to dislike. The way she's perceived as being responsible for Harry's (alleged) drop in popularity. It's all so silly -

Anniebach Wed 14-Aug-19 08:24:25

yes Donald Trump

growstuff Wed 14-Aug-19 05:20:56

I really haven't a clue whether Meghan reads Twitter, but I'd be amazed if she's not aware of what is written. It has over 100 million users, including Donald Trump, who tweets prolifically. I would imagine the royal family's PR machine monitors it almost constantly.

growstuff Wed 14-Aug-19 04:49:34

Maybe you shouldn't be so rude, Anniebach. I read very widely, but nobody who is seriously interested in what the "public" thinks can ignore Twitter or fail to realise the bile.

SirChenjin Tue 13-Aug-19 23:01:33

Of course MM comes in for racist abuse - it’s well known. It can be seen right across social media and in the press - and quite why that should come as a surprise to anyone or elicit complaints of race cards being played is a mystery.
