So my first thought was right - he had agreed it with the Queen before he announced it.
So sad I’ve nearly finished last Jilly Cooper
The end of hopes of stopping a no deal Brexit?
Just announced.
The Queen will be asked by the government to suspend Parliament days after MPs return to work - and a matter of weeks before the Brexit deadline.
The BBC's political editor, Laura Kuenssberg, says it will make way for Boris Johnson's new administration to hold a Queen's Speech - laying out the government's future plans - on 14 October
But it means MPs are unlikely to have time to pass any laws that could stop the prime minister taking the UK out of the EU without a deal on 31 October.
A No 10 source said: "It's time a new government and new PM set out a plan for the country after we leave the EU
The idea of shutting down Parliament - known as prorogation - has caused controversy, with critics saying it would stop MPs being able to play their democratic part in the Brexit process.
So my first thought was right - he had agreed it with the Queen before he announced it.
Breaking news:
The Queen has given her consent!

Actually reading more on it all, I think it’s just manufacturing a trigger for a General Election.
Irrespective of your views on their policies (or lack thereof), you have to at least say of this Conservative government that their positioning & strategy with respect to all of this has been artful.
Rory Stewart has ridiculed Boris Johnson’s pro-Brexit online adverts by comparing them to the TV show Little Britain, as he confirmed he will join no-deal Brexit rebels.
The former cabinet minister, who stood against Johnson in the leadership race, confirmed he will “do whatever it takes” to stop Britain from crashing out the European Union on October 31.
But the ex-international development secretary suggested he may not follow the so-called Remain alliance in backing legislation that would pave the way for a second referendum.
Stewart also said that in the “extremely unlikely” event that Johnson would attempt to prorogue – or suspend – parliament in order to force through a no-deal Brexit, he would set up an alternative parliament.

The above is from Steve Baker MP
123coco, a good post and one that I agree with. Leavers are not thinking of the future generations, just the belief of lies told by a load self serving despots. This has been a bad day and I wait for people who voted leave to start moaning about this that other when we do leave. I for one will just I hope it hits you harder.
Seems an awful lot of fuss over three days?
Three days of parliamentary business will be lost 8th, 9th and 10th of October!!!!
Firecracker123 and urmonstgran. I despair. If you have children and grandchildren you should be ashamed of yourselves. In today’s ability to actually go to the trouble to find facts , there is NO excuse for ignorance it is simply a choice ! Would love to hear your parents explain what Irish backstop is without having to go and look it up. Would love to hear your parents explain what Irish backstop is without having to go and look it up Restaurants and booted for the Good Friday agreement just like the rest of the parliament. This is just one of many things you leavers tend to overlook . When the NHS is in the hands of the USA , don’t moan on here because we won’t have any sympathy with you . You reap what you so I just hope those who voted leave reap it more !
Absolute nonsense sarah - this has nothing to do with the UK and all to do with a few arrogant despots in No 10 who are wreaking havoc with democracy.
The disunited kingdom you mean. The way people are talking you’d think there was some landslide victory when it’s a slim majority of the minority of the population .
There comes a time when the United Kingdom has to do what the United Kingdom has to do. This is one of them.
In work here, someone coming in to the office has just said, "this could be one of those days when you remember where you were when you heard this news".
That could well turn out to be very true, as it seems everyone is talking about this matter today.
Time and events will tell I suppose?
Hyperbolic nonsense Wwmark2. Stop trying to frighten the horses with your A far left prime minister is in power and want to pass extremely controversial legislation. He can prorogued because precedent has been set.
This has been through due process with MP’s voting at every stage (even aided & abetted by Bercow with his implementation of arcane laws).
MP’s have had a great deal of debate and voting on Brexit.
Same old arguments round in circles.
Boris is moving things along. He wants a deal. He’s proving to the E.U. we mean business.
Good on him.
The goalposts have had to move.
'Easy-good deal' - didn't happen as the EU didn’t dare allow it, in case it encouraged other countries to leave. Fair enough really.
Theresa May / Bad deal - rejected by the HoC three times.
So our only options left at this time are
- a rework of TM/Bad deal
or
- No deal
The UK has run out of all other options...It must legally leave the EU by the 31.10.19. Parliament voted for it.
What the UK cannot continue to do is squabble with itself - the country needs to move on.
And before anyone says ‘what about Revoke A50’?
Nope. That wasn’t the result of the largest ever referendum. But good try Remainers.
Boris has played a blinder ?
So imagine this after this precedent has been set.
A far left prime minister is in power and want to pass extremely controversial legislation. He can prorogued because precedent has been set.
Be careful what you wish for all you leavers.
Varian how can parliamentary business continue during th "conference season" as there would be a large proportion of MPs from one party away for each of the conferences.
Ah but that is obviously what the MPs against Brexit were hoping for wasn't it?
Well I hope Liz puts on her blue hat and says "Boris, I am on my holidays and Phil has told me not to do any work whilst I am enjoying myself, so b..... of"
Tom Newton-Dunn, political editor of The Sun, who has some good contacts in the Conservative Party, tweets-
"Some serious disquiet in Govt now about the strategy. One senior minister tells me: “I don’t think No10 really understands that if we don’t have the MPs then we dont have control. I think it is 50/50 what happens next”.

Hear hear Urmstongran good post.
Boris will have my vote (sorry Nigel) if he gets us out deal or no deal 31st October 2019 ?
You are all entirely missing the point.
PARLIAMENT IS BEING PROROGUED IN ORDER TO AVOID CIRCUMNAVIGATE PARLIAMENTARY OPPOSITION.
IT IS AN OUTRAGEOUS ANTI-DEMOCRATIC MOVE,
Who is Jacob?
I need a lie down.
Yes GG13 it does. So in fact it’ll only be for such a short time really.
The Remainer MP’s are more furious that their own ‘coup’ has been thwarted!
Makes me laugh when MPs call it a dark day for democracy whilst trying to stop what was a democratic vote by the people. Arrogance by the shovel load.
Parliament does usually shut down for the conference season, but there has to be a motion passed to allow it, usually this is uncontroversial.
However it is quite likely that the motion will not be passed this year so that parliamentary business may continue during the party conferences.
Time is of the essence if disaster is to be prevented.
Not for this length of time and not for the purpose of preventing a democratic process in Parliament Granny
