Cummings game plan seems to be on course.

The tiny majority will be rendered a minority at a stroke by Cummings threat to take the whip away from any Tory rebels.

Johnson has then scapegoats to blame for his failure to deliver a brexit deal, and an excuse to go for a GE.

Labour will then fall in with the game plan by holding a VONC and a GE looks a distinct possibility sometime in Oct.
Johnson will fight it as the people v the elite who failed to deliver the democratic vote. (Bannon writ large)

The U.K. will then crash out on Nov 1st. No attempt is being made by Cummings to get a deal and in any case his contact finishes on Oct 31st.

Support drunken aides roaming the corridors? ?
They can find their own supports.

Now, to be serious, where have I said that I support ‘drunken
Aids’ etc?
For a start though, the drunken bit is ‘alleged’. I think you would have had to have been there and be non partisan to gauge what really happened. If he had yelled into Corbyn’s face that would be bad, but your link to the newspaper actually used the word ‘said’ by Cummings to Corbyn. Not yelled or screamed.
Cat Smith is hardly non partisan, is she?
I make a point of not getting steamed up by accounts of
happenings that I can’t actually see or are reported by totally reliable witnesses with no axe to grind.

Lemongrove, so you do support political aids roaming the corridors of the Parliamentary Estate in a drunken condition abusing others who do not agree with their views.

The above has been commented on by a number of Tory MPs in support of the Jeremy Corbyn incident.

Am sure that Campbell was no worse than Cummings, and that Cummings is no worse than Campbell.
Probably both awful to work with and be around professionally.
Stop excusing Campbell simply because he was a member of the LP. I don’t excuse Cummings, but then I don’t expect that somebody in that job should be Mary Poppins.

I think it was more than ‘loosely’ based Grandad43

lemongrove Fri 06-Sept-19 18:05:46

I keep reading posts on GN that turn out to be from newspapers or other social media sources, so it’s good to be sure, as many never say what their source was.

However, as your post mentions the Lib Dems I realise it’s your own comment.

lemon I do not use "We" in the sense of the royal "We" or in the sense of a political party or scholarly group of researches or analysts.

I use "We" to mean fellow Gransnetters.

lemongrove Quote [I suggest that you watch The Thick Of It, based on Campbell.] End Quote.

lemongrove, The Thick Of It was a fiction series created for public entertainment which was supposedly loosely based on Downing street life.

What has come to light in regard to Cummings is today's real life.

I do not think you do yourself justice in comparing the two.

lemongrove Fri 06-Sept-19 18:02:21

It’s the use of ‘we’ a few times, and you often copy articles on GN I believe?

lemongrove Fri 06-Sept-19 18:01:19

Read it now Grandad 43
Cummings bumped into Corbyn ( not literally it seems) in Portcullis House and said ‘come on Jeremy, how about an election what are you afraid of’
Horrified aides bundled Corbyn away.
Cat Smith on the shadow cabinet alleges he stank of booze.
What a truly terrifying situation.....not.

varian Fri 06-Sept-19 17:59:56

Why lemon? Do you think I cannot compose a post? Have you never had the pleasure of reading my own posts?

lemongrove Fri 06-Sept-19 17:54:29

I take it you are copying an article yet again Varian without actually saying so....certainly sounds like it.

Grandad1943 Fri 06-Sept-19 17:53:19

Apologies Lemongrove, I forgot to paste link in my above post to you.

Link begins here.

I suggest that you watch The Thick Of It, based on Campbell.

lemongrove Fri 06-Sept-19 17:51:35

?
Campbell was renowned for his aggressive behaviour and his expletives.
He may, or may not have downed a few drinks.

varian Fri 06-Sept-19 17:51:19

Alistair Campbell was Tony'Blair's right hand man, but he was an effective sounding board and advisor who helped TB keep on such a popular path that he kept being re-elected and remained in power for thirteen years, winning three elections.

We don't know what advice AC gave TB about the Iraq war, which was his ultimate undoing. The Liberal Democrats did not vote for it but the Tories did. It then gave the Tories the opportunity to cash in in 2010.

We cannot compare AC's career as an advisor and strategist to Dominic Cummings who has, we are told, a temporary contract to work for BJ until 31st October and has so far done more than anyone to ensure that BJ is likely not to last much longer.

Grandad1943 Fri 06-Sept-19 17:45:46

1emongrove, I do not believe that Alastair Campbell ever had it alleged against him that he stalked the corridors of Parliament in a drunken state verbally threatening MPs with their positions in the party and Constituency.

It is also alledged that the foregoing is carried out with extream verbal expletives and very personal insults.

Do you support that kind of behaviour Lemongrove?

lemongrove Fri 06-Sept-19 17:40:53

He fulfilled the same function Monica ?

M0nica Fri 06-Sept-19 17:35:12

Campbell wasn't a political advisor. He was the Director of Communications and previously TB's spokesman and press secretary.

lemongrove Fri 06-Sept-19 17:31:50

I think it was like that in the dim and distant past Monica
( advisors in the shadows) but not relatively recently.
Everyone talked of Campbell pulling the strings with Blair, and there were some very funny sketches about it.
Nothing is hidden ( for long!) now.

Labaik Fri 06-Sept-19 16:30:42

I don't think he's stupid but I do think he's made the mistake of thinking other people are stupid; which they aren't.

M0nica Fri 06-Sept-19 10:06:41

Cummings isn't evil. He is stupid. Once the advisor becomes the story, his cover is blown and he is heading for the 'out' door.

A 'good' advisor, whether his advice is 'good' or not keeps out of sight and makes sure the person he/she advises gets all the credit for the advise they receive.

It is damaging to a Prime Minster or any other prime mover, when it is very obvious that the tail is wagging the dog.

jura2 Thu 05-Sept-19 22:21:09

Amber and Nicky should have the guts to cross the floor asap, or resign.

jura2 Thu 05-Sept-19 22:20:23

Cummings is evil

GracesGranMK3 Thu 05-Sept-19 21:55:54

It seems we are seeing the real Jacob Rees Mogg too. What a despicable coward.

lemongrove Thu 05-Sept-19 21:21:12

Into another web, underneath this one??
Sometimes the point just has to be made, when others appear not to get it, but yes, ultimately a fruitless exercise, when all some posters want is ‘Cummings is evil!’
